NEWS LETTER – March 2011
The Presidents Column - Passion I recently visited a production of the opera Carmen. A truly passionate story, unfortunately with not such an happy end. Despite the unhappy ending I had a great evening and was in particular amazed by the number of people, singers, musicians but also stagehands, drivers, a director and so, that are involved by creating such a performance. And only when all share the same “Carmen” passion they can achieve great results and exceed my expectations. What a project creating such a performance must be. Passion was also present at a first meeting of our Young Professionals. Of course the phenomena Young Professionals within the PMI Netherlands Chapter still needs to mature. But with the passion of some of our members and the co-operation of the IPMA-NL Young Professionals I pretty much belief that this will ripen to a joyful Young Professionals community. Join the initiators and share their passion! By the way during this event M-Engaged once more showed its passion and enthusiasm for serious gaming in relation to Project Management. I am still puzzled on what this is and how it will contribute to developing our profession. Nevertheless they triggered my curiosity so I will certainly follow the nearby development. That is what other ones passion does to one! Meanwhile it looks like lots of things are happening in the banking industry. No not a new crises, at least not that we know of, but we received several requests to get in touch and explain what PMI and our Chapter is all about, how to become a member and so one. Professionalizing seems to be the magic word at the moment and that is something we not only experience in the banking industry. Of course the Chapter Board will, with great passion, go out and spread the PMI word. Passion was also present at our latest event at Abbott. Despite dark clouds related to the announced organizational change we were welcomed with an exceptional hospitality and were presented insights in a truly quality focused organization driven by passionate people. So now the question no longer is about the chicken and the egg but about the virus and the egg. Amazing how things fit together and what a lively event we had. In all cases mentioned above passion seems to be the driving force. Passion enables us to achieve things we never thought we could achieve, it helps us to excite others and it help for sure to exceed expectations. That makes me wonder if we could not share some of your passion for Project, Program and Portfolio Management and of course PMO on our website, in white papers and other ways. I would challenge you to feedback your passion for our profession and PMI and the PMI Netherlands Chapter. Your passion to encourage others, growing the World of Project-, Program- and Portfolio Management. That would be marvelous, don’t you think? Cees Pijs - President PMI Netherlands Chapter
