“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” - Wayne Gretzkey My name is Priya Martin and I have accumulated 10+ years’ experience in design and project management, primarily within the built environment industry. I am a dedicated team leader and player, co-ordinating with multiple disciplines to deliver a range of projects while overseeing the quality of deliverables from start to finish. I am an excellent communicator and presenter, hosting and facilitating engaging workshops with clients and stakeholders, as well as being a positive voice of knowledge at industry events and for mentoring the next generation. Creativity and ambition are two key values I have followed and would hope to cascade to those I collaborate with. This portfolio is not just a showcase but a celebration of how far I can push conceptual boundaries, and I am excited to want to expand this to other industries; all to make a real-world social impact. Regeneron Office Amsterdam, Netherlands (Sept 2022 - Apr 2023)

Regeneron, a pharmaceutical company, wanted a bright, fresh interior look for their headquarters in the Netherlands.

Basing on their bold brand colours and preferred swatches applicable to all their sites and furniture, I designed the single office floor to be open and light to encourage both team collaboration and a flexible environment that promoted a healthy work-life balance. Moreover, it was consistent with Regeneron’s company ethos and unique character as an office space. The project was completed in early 2023, having taken inspiration from Regeneron’s other sites in Dublin, Ireland, and Uxbridge, London.

CLIENT

His Majesty’s Passport Office, managed by Home Office, needed a hub within an accessible area of London that accommodated both private staff and public services. The site, based in the Docklands area of East London, was designed with clear access and efficiency in mind, with modern workspaces and robust interfaces for staff to interact with the public when interviews or new passports were issued. The concept designs I developed were finalised by the contractor before it was completed in early 2023.

Family Court Luton, UK (Aug 2018 - Mar 2020)

His Majesty’s Courts & Tribunals Service needed a twostorey family court, situated above an existing shopping mall, and which incorporated the principles from a newly published Courts of the Future Design Guide. I was part of a panel that even gave feedback on the guide and developed the concept design whilst improving private staff and public functions, while having a sleek and sophisticated internal environment that was not intimidating, but professional. The contractor further finalised the design until its completion in March 2020, a week before the first COVID-19 lockdown.

Sports Hall Norwich, UK (Apr 2017 - Jun 2018)

Named after a local female cricketer, the Eileen Ash Sports Hall is situated within the Jane Austen Secondary School in Norwich. To respond to the lack of adequate sports facilities at the school, I designed this single-storey building to be an all-purpose location for a variety of sports, while having convenient access to changing and storage areas.

While minimalistic in its design, its occupation has made it a central point for community and pupil activity, since its completion in June 2018.

Steering Groups Miscellaneous (Apr 2017 - Jun 2018)

Having been part of Mace’s Retrofit steering group, this meant creating user friendly guidance on the process of re-using and adapting existing buildings with minimal impact on the environment.

Using sustainability guidance, I created various diagrams and flow charts to be used within company publications and circulated to colleagues. In addition, I was the co-chair and co-founder of the Ethnic Diversity Inclusion Network (EDIN) and designed certificates of recognition for employees going above and beyond.

What is the Biopsychosocial model?

Part 1: Exercise guidelines CARDIOVASCULAR (CV) FITNESS

Diabetes Awareness 1/2 Diabetes occurs when the amount of glucose in the blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly and the pancreas is not producing enough or none of the hormone, insulin, to help glucose enter the body's cells.

Type 2 diabetes is more common than Type 1 (90% of 3.5 million diagnoses in 2016) [Diabetes UK]

Causes of Diabetes Type 1 diabetes may be caused by genetics, family history or the body not producing enough insulin. Type 2 diabetes occurs when glucose levels are too high for the amount of insulin to handle, through poor diet of high fats and sugars, being overweight, or lack of activity [NHS UK]

Risks Factors for Diabetes While nothing can be done to prevent Type 1 diabetes, risk factors for contracting Type 2 diabetes include being overwight/having a high body mass index, eating a poor diet with high fats and sugars, have ever had high blood pressure, a heart attack or stroke, and having a large waist to hip ratio. Frequency (F) = 3-5 days per week Intensity (I) = 5x moderate or vigorous, or combination of both Time (Ti) = 150 moderate minutes per week, 75 vigorous minutes per week, or a combination of both Type (Ty) = Rhythmic purposeful exercise involving large muscle groups

Other risk factors include whether an immediate family member has diabetes, or certain ethnic groups like Afro-Carribbean, Chinese or South Asian backgrounds, sometimes due to culture and diet. [AXA PPP Health]

Symptoms of Diabetes Common symptoms include going to the toilet more frequently than usual, constant thirst, lethargy, losing more weight than usual, genital itching or thrush, blurred vision and delayed healing of cuts and wounds.

Long-term complications include developing cardiovascular disease, problems with eyes, kidneys, nerves and feet. [Diabetes UK]

These symptoms occur due to some or all glucose staying in the blood and not being used as fuel for energy, therefore the body flushes excess glucose out in urine. [NHS UK]

1. Biological This can include factors, such as genetics or family medical history, age, sex, race and physiological status.

Whilst most of these factors can't be changed, they can be managed carefully to avoid barriers.

2. Social This includes cultural, familial, socioeconomic and religious factors.

The quality of social network around a person can play a part in keeping to good health. Specific factors can include level of education, employment, peer group pressure, relationships or living conditions and household income.

RESISTANCE TRAINING Resistance training, according to Healthline, can help to build muscle, decrease abdominal fat to appear leaner and lower the risk of injury. As well as improving overall strength, hypertrophy relates to muscle growth, while endurance relates to the muscles' ability to sustain exercise for a period of time. As per the American College of Sports Medicine, the guidelines for healthy adults are as follows: F (for strength and hypertrophy) = 1-2 days per week per muscle group F (for endurance) = 2-3 days per week per muscle group

Short-term complications include hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state (high blood sugar) or ketoacidosis (breakdown of other body issue, leaving behind poisonous chemicals called ketones).

CV fitness over time, according to NHS UK, helps lower blood pressure, regulates blood sugar, and supports mental health. As per the American College of Sports Medicine, the guidelines for healthy adults are as follows:

I (for strength) = 2-6 sets of 1-6 reps I (for hypertrophy) = 3-6 sets of 6-12 reps I (for endurance) = 2-3 sets of 12+ reps

Everyday behaviours or choices could either be beneficial or lead to diseases or health conditions. Factors include smoking/alcohol/drug use, unhealthy eating, stress management, adherence to medication, regularly visiting healthcare professionals or stress and time management.

There are factors that can impact on wellbeing, including depression, anxiety, stress and anger. Managing mental health and self-esteem/efficacy can have a positive effect on overall health, both physical and mental. It depends on actively seeking solutions and the will to seek positive change.

Ti (for strength) = >85% 1 rep max.

Ti (for hypertrophy) = 67-85% 1 rep max.

Ti (for endurance) = <67% 1 rep max.

Ty (for all) = Range of exercises to ensure a balance of muscle groups, especially using compound (multi-joint) and isolation (single joint).

YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS In order to achieve your goals to become stronger and to build muscle mass through hypertrophy, here's your recommendations for exercise per week, which follows the guidelines mentioned above: CV Fitness: F = 3 days per week I = Moderate Ti = 50 minutes per session Ty = Group fitness classes Resistance Training: F = 3 days per week I = 70% 1 rep max.

Ti = 4 sets of 10 reps Ty = Distribute sessions between upper, lower and full body

As a commission for training provider, The Fitness Bond, I created a series of detailed educational handouts which had been personalised for particular students undertaking courses to become either a personal trainer, fitness instructor or nutritionist. These needed to be informative yet removing the jargon so that readers found it easy to understand and digest.

Side panels

Side banner images and company logos to be mounted on plywood panels, which are attached to sides of truck bed. Generator and speakers, provided by client, connected and positioned on truck bed.

Scaffolding elements cut to size and connected using forged swivel couplers. Bases added to bottom of scaffolding to position onto truck bed. Scaffolding to be assebled from bottom to top, with Working At Height safety measures put in place.

Each ‘infinity’ component consists of two plywood sheets cut to size.

Noggins connected by screws for support. Holes cut out from components for scaffold pieces to feed through and held in place with fixings. Components spray-painted as per various LGBT+ flags.

Allocated ‘infinity’ components will specifically have removable segments to attach and detatch from adjacent linking components (see 1:30 scale component details). Scaffolding can be dismantled from the top of the structure and working down to the bottom.

‘Infinity’components

All materials proposed are intended to be made from renewable resources. For disposal: •

‘Infinity’ components can be individually or collectively sold at auctions, with proceeds going towards Architecture LGBT+. Used as wall art/installations.

If not used as art, ‘infinity’ components can have plywood material recycled or reused for other construction projects (paint may have to be sanded down).

Scaffolding can be recycled or reused for other construction projects.

' In Your Prime ' Wellbeing Planning

I developed a wellbeing planning course , in collaboration with the charity, the Architects Benevolent Society.

A polit was rolled out to clients such as His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs, and otherwise is available for others to conduct workshops themselves using this tool. It had been designed in a monochrome format so that users can write and doodle on the pages.

The following logos were paid commissions for either friends or businesses.

Queensway Estate London, UK (Jul 2015 - Sept 2016)

Queensway Council were undergoing a large-scale development in the Queensway area of West London, which included the provision of mixed-use buildings accommodating retail units on the ground floor and residential units above. I was part of a small team designing each of the buildings, but mainly creating striking visualisations that would be shared on promotional materials to the public. It was important to justify how the new developments fit in with the local aesthetic and were inviting to people as they passed by. The developments are still under construction.

Pinehurst Park Hampshire, UK (Jul 2015 - Mar 2016)

Pinehurst Park is a large-scale residential building on the edge of FarnboroughTown Centre, commissioned by Pinehurst Investments.

Some of the building retained existing elements from an older structure, yet incorporated the use of more sustainable materials and a pleasing brick aesthetic that complemented the local area. I was part of a small team creating the visualisations for the scheme which formed part of a planning application. The project is still undergoing design changes with part of it having been constructed.

Infinity Spa Thesis Alexandria VA, USA (Aug 2014 - Jun 2015)

As part of a term abroad in the United States of America, I had begun a project that I took back to the UK and completed before presenting it as part of my final Masters thesis.The design was for a spa building that related to the seven body chakras, and had direct connection with the adjoining Potomac River running past Virginia.I created my own brief, looking at soft, subtle materials and colours for the interiors, while exploring spatial properties accommodating changes in temperature and elements such as water and air.

Emergent Urbanisms Istanbul, Turkey (Jan 2014 - Jun 2014)

My first project as part of my Master in Architecture degree involved responding to the busy, urban characteristics found in Istanbul in Turkey. Within a quiet community on the outskirts of the city, I created the brief of developing an indoor market hub, whilst researching the presentation and approaches to markets elsewhere in the city. I toyed between open and enclosed spaces, making it inviting for both tourists and the locals.
