Overview

The timetable at Peter Moyes Anglican Community School comprises five Periods a day, with 64 minutes in each Period, totalling 25 Periods in a week. Students in Years 11 and 12 have the following allocation of classes:

*may be a Study Group Period if ATAR Religion and Life is selected

**may be a Study Group Period if a VET Pathway is selected

^may be a Year 12 Study Group Period for students on a full ATAR pathway

Excitingly, senior secondary schooling allows for students to build their own academic direction fully for the first time! This is based on their intended post-secondary destination and their success in both compulsory subjects and completed electives

There are two compulsory courses that a student is mandated to select in Year 11 and Year 12. One is an English or Literature course. The second is either a Christianity, Religion and Life General Unit 1 or the ATAR Religion and Life course. The General 1 Unit is taken one Period a week over two years, which provides a useful minimum C Grade towards the student’s WACE graduation on attainment of a pass mark.

Study Group Periods

Students in Year 11 choose six courses. There is no provision for a Study Group Period unless the student is on a VET Pathway or has selected ATAR Religion and Life.

Students in Year 12 on a full ATAR Pathway, destined for direct University entry at the completion of their secondary schooling, may select Study Group Periods by withdrawing from their 6th course.

Students who take a VET Pathway select a Study Group Period as their 6th course. If a student is on a VET Pathway with two-days a week off campus are permitted two lines of Study Group Periods.

Prerequisites for Year 11 and Year 12 Courses

Students are reminded of the prerequisites document which will determine a student’s success in Year 11, Year 12, and ultimately, secondary graduation:

Preparing for Year 11 - Prerequisites

In selecting courses and pathways students should seek advice from as many people as possible, particularly the Careers and Pathways Coordinator, as well as their teachers and parents. Students should seriously consider recommendations based on experience.

The School has maintained strong links with Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Joondalup as a Foundation School in delivering UniPrep. This sees the delivery of the university’s bridging course, UniPrep in Schools program in Year 12 for recommended students on a General Pathway.

The one-year SCSA endorsed program is designed to complement students’ current WACE academic endeavours, while providing authentic experiences of university. It allows students to bridge secondary school by equipping them with transferrable career development skills and enhancing their academic skills, while integrating an authentic university experience.
