A Guide to the roles available on the RAG committee 2015/16 You may only hold one position on RAG committee. The term of your role runs from 1st April 2015 to 1st April 2016. Along with your specific role you will be expected to support your fellow RAG committee’s events and get involved in promotions of RAG in general. The elections are broken down into three rounds President elections Core committee elections General committee elections If you wish you may nominate yourself for one role in each round of the elections. However, if you are successful in being elected your subsequent nominations will become invalid. Any questions please email volunteer@su.plymouth.acuk


6th March: President & Vice President nominations close 9th – 14th March: President & Vice President voting

President You will be overseeing the day to day running of RAG and making important strategic decisions. Also to chair Core and General meeting’s, alongside organising and publishing the agenda for each meeting. You get the deciding vote but must ensure all actions are in accordance with the RAG constitution. You will be a signatory for the RAG Deposit Account and ensure all payments paid in and out are correct. You also get to line manage the RAG sub-committees such as events, promotions, adventures and hall reps. Towards the end of the year you will be responsible for the following years’ elections and ensuring a handover is provided for the new committee. You and the Vice-President will be the contact for the UPSU’s fundraising coordinator and you will meet bi-weekly to discuss the goings on.


Vice President You will be working alongside the President to oversee the day to day running of RAG and to make strategic decisions. You will be supporting the president in the organisation and administration of RAG. At core and general meetings you will be taking minutes which are to be uploaded the following day. If the president is not available you are the next point of contact and are to continue the president’s role until their return. You with the president will be a signatory for the RAG Deposit Account and ensure all payments paid in and out are correct. You also get to line manage the RAG sub-committees such as events, promotions, adventures and hall reps. Towards the end of the year you will be responsible for the following years’ elections and ensuring a handover is provided for the new committee. You and the President will be the contact for the UPSU’s fundraising coordinator and you will meet biweekly to discuss the goings on. You are also to oversee any press coverage or publicity that involves RAG.


13th March: Core committee nominations close 16th – 20th March: Core committee voting

Events Officers (two person role share) This role is responsible for overseeing all of RAG’s events and holding weekly meetings with the events sub-committee as well as attending core meetings. You are to ensure all events are being planned correctly and are running within the time limits. You are responsible for the coordination and line management of the events team which includes; Ball coordinators, RAG week coordinators, Campaign coordinator and social sec. You will be assisting in planning roughly 3 events a term alongside the famous RAG week.


Promotions Officers (two person role share) Fundraising is all about people and as promotions officer you'll be in charge of getting the word out about all of RAGs events to ensure they're as successful as possible. As part of the Core Committee you'll have vital input into the running of RAG as well as managing your own subcommittee. This consists of a designer, webmaster, and admin & recruitment coordinator and it's your role to lead the team ensuring that everyone is happy in their roles and working effectively. Social media, posters and leaflets are the promo teams bread and butter, but you'll also be responsible for a number of projects throughout the year such as creating the RAG Magazine and promoting RAGs new website.

Adventure Officer This role oversees our adventure leaders, for example our Kilimanjaro leader, and skydive leader and holds meetings with the leaders to find out how the participants are doing. You are the main point of contact for the charities which the adventures are raising money for and will help arrange raids and money collections for the participants. You are also to oversee the fundraising payments are being paid to the correct charities with the correct amounts. You also attend core meetings weekly so that you can keep the rest of the RAG committee updated with all the adventures progress as this is one of our big money makers!


Treasurer You are to oversee and manage RAG finances and budgets, presenting account summaries at weekly core meetings. You must ensure all money is being paid into the SU correctly and complying with the financial regulations of UPSU. You must be able to keep a record of each event costs and surplus especially our adventure participants who are fundraising a lot of money each week. You must be able to come into the SU regularly to go over payments that have been paid in and check they are correct. You are to attend weekly core meetings where you can inform the president and vice of accounts.

Health & Safety Officer As health and safety officer you are to ensure RAG is complying with the health and safety regulations of UPSU and to carry our risk assessments for all events. You are to attend weekly core meetings. You also must be first aid trained to willing to complete a first aid course. This is a really excellent role for those looking for a little extra on their CVs‌ employees love a good risk assessor!


RAG Hall Rep Coordinator This role requires you to be in charge of your own team of RAG hall reps and helping them put on events within their halls and even friendly inter-halls events! You can help encourage them to put on their own events to raise money as well as promoting RAG’s events within their halls using social media and posters. You will hold your own meetings with the hall reps to plan events, as well as attending a weekly core committee meeting to feedback information to the president and events/promotion officers.

Ball Coordinator (two person role share and two more committee members from sports & societies) You will be the face of our winter ball which has been successful for the last 2 years which raised over £3000 each year for our chosen charities. You will be working with the other two ball coordinators each from a sports club and a society which you can assist in the interviewing of. In your weekly winter ball committee meetings you will decide on a theme and plan out the whole event with RAG and UPSU’s support. You will be responsible for the promotion, recruitment and for finding volunteers for the event and will need to ensure the SU have a detailed financial report which the treasurer can help you with.


RAG week coordinators (three person role share) RAG week is a flagship week for us and raises lots of money for our three chosen charities. You will help organise the week by arranging events alongside sports and societies which can be whatever event you would like (within reason of course). You will have the assistance of the events coordinators and will meet weekly at events sub-committee meetings. We are trying to engage as many clubs with RAG week and make it a university wide event so you will need to be enthusiastic and passionate about the event and raising as much money as possible.

Campaigns coordinator This role concentrates completely on organising flagship events for occasions such as Movember, Children In Need, Red Nose Day and Comic/Sports relief. We are aiming for these events to engage as much of the university as possible so you can be as adventurous as you want as long as it raises money! You will be part of the events sub-committee and will attend weekly meetings with them to discuss plans for your events and other events being run by RAG. The events committee will help you plan these events alongside the rest of the RAG committee who will volunteer to assist at the events to help you.


Social Secretary (two person role share) You will be part of the RAG events sub-committee and will be arranging socials for either just the RAG committee or helping put on larger socials that are open to all students which will raise money for charity from ticket sales. RAG has never had a social sec before so we are open to as many ideas as possible to get our committee to bond together outside of RAG meetings!

Webmaster You get to be in charge of RAG’s new website, keeping it updated with the goings on in RAG and information about upcoming events. You also play a key part in promoting events using social media such as twitter and facebook which is essential in attracting people to our events. You will belong to the promotions team and meet with them weekly, which also includes the designer who you will work closely with to come up with new innovative ways to promote RAG.


Designer (two person role share) Working closely with the events and promotions officers you will design and create promotional materials such as posters, flyers, photos for social media and t-shirts. One of your main projects of the year would be our RAG Magazine, which you and the promotions team with design and produce to inform the university students of what we are planning to do that term such as RAG week and adventures.

Sponsorship Using your entrepreneurial skills you can help us find sponsors for the year from local businesses/restaurants or even within the university. By working with the designer you will together design the RAG Magazine to include advertisements from our sponsors which can help us raise money to make our events even better! As part of the promotions subcommittee you will also assist with finding prizes for events such as RAG week, which could range from a free pen to a free meal at a fancy restaurant!


Admin and Recruitment This roles main focus is on increasing overall participation from all students, whether this is helping promote adventures and getting sign ups or recruiting the following year’s committee. During busy periods of the year such as RAG week you will assist the officers to keep track of all documents and files and check they are all completed to their timelines. In September you will be in charge of helping the RAG Hall Rep Coordinator to recruit Hall reps whether this is using social media or face to face at freshers fayre. You are part of the promotions subcommittee and will attend a weekly meeting with them to have an update on all things RAG.


20th March: Adventure Leader applications close 23rd – 27th March: Adventure Leader interviews

Adventure Leader roles To apply for a RAG Adventure Leader role you need to submit and application via www.upsu.com/volunteer/rag or www.facebook.com/plymouthrag Applications close 20th March and interviews follow on the 23rd – 27th March. RAG will shortly be announcing which challenges will be running in 2015/16. As a RAG Adventure leader you will be responsible for recruiting a team, organising group fundraising events, holding bi-weekly team meetings, organising socials, team bonding on the challenge. You will work closely with RAG’s chosen charity partner and get support from the RAG Adventures officer.
