2022 has started well on all fronts, with our ESG offering attracting a lot of inquiries. With Covid now moving to the rear-view mirror, businesses are looking to push on and to capitalise with growing confidence.

This month's theme is the Green economy, its size, and more specifically focusing on the Green Bank model. In this newsletter, we explain the general concepts and we introduce facts describing the 'Green Bank' concept.

THE GREEN BANK MODEL

A green bank is sometimes referred to as green investment bank, clean energy finance authority, or clean energy finance corporation. It Is a financial institution, typically public or quasi-public, that uses innovative financing techniques and market development tools. With the partnership of the private sector aiming to accelerate the deployment of clean energy technologies.

Green banks use public funds to leverage private investment in clean energy technologies. Despite being commercially viable, they have struggled to establish a widespread presence in consumer markets. Green banks seek to reduce energy costs for taxpayers, stimulate private sector investment and economic activity, and expedite the transition to a low-carbon economy.

In the UK, there is a long way to go.

The global economy is in a time of transition. The world needs to find ways to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and increase the use of renewable energy sources. The green economy is a new way of thinking about economics, where the environment and social equity are considered alongside economic growth.

A green economy is an alternative way for countries to grow their economies without relying on fossil fuels or other non-renewable resources whilst focusing on sustainable development, clean technologies and renewable energy sources. The UK numbers below highlight the size and extent of this economy. Again we say, the UK has a long way to go.
