WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING

When you thought I wasn't looking you hung my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another.

When you thought I wasn't looking you fed a stray eat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking you baked a birthday cake just for me, and I knew that little things were special things.

When you thought I wasn't looking you said a prayer, and I believed there was a Godthat I could always talk to.

When you thought I wasn't looking you kissed me good-night, and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I leamed that sometimes things burt - hut that it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking you smiled, and it made me want to look that pretty, too.

When you thought I wasn't looking you cared, and I wanted to be everything I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking --I looked ... and wanted to say thanks for all those things you did when you thought I wa~n't looking. .

At our April Meeting, our Embla Scholarship winnerwas given her award.

Anne Marie Kama, daughter of Mo and Bev Fesharaki, and niece of Edith Stageberg, was given a $500 award to be sent to the college of her choice.

Dear Sisters, Since my husband passed away February 20th, I have received over 150 sympathy cards. Over 60 were from Embla and other Daughters of Norway lodges. The Memorial Chapel was standing room onl y.

The guest book was full of your names. The tables at the reception were overflowing with your food and aur house was bursting with so many friends and family.

It was a comfort to me and my family to have so many bring their love and support. I'm so deeply grateful to each of you for your prayers, visits and phone calls.

In lieu of flowers, aur family suggested donations in memory of Jim to be made to the American Cancer Society. Other checks were sent to Embla for the scholarship fund. Checks sent to me will be used for a $500 Embla scholarship in Jim's memory and the balance to the American Cancer Society.

Anne Marie is a senior at Stadium High School with a 4 yr. grade point average of 3.99. She was dass treasurer, ASB treasurer, four year letter in tennis, 4 years in concert band, in two plays as a east member, youth group kader for Youth for Christ for four years, Nordstram Fashion Board member, peer hel per, National Honor Society member and Homecoming Royalty.

She plans to go to afouryearcollege to major in political science or communications and then to law school. After eaming her law degree she hopes to practice international law and eventually become a judge.

She has been a very busy young lady and evidently has her priori ties in order.

W e wish her the best of everything and hope to hear good things from her in the fu ture.

But He was good and kind like His Father and He told His Father that they didn't know what they were <loing and to forgive them and God said OK.

His Dad (God) appreciated everything that He had done and all His hard work on earth so He told Him He didn't have to go out on the road anymore, He could stay in heaven. So He did.

"One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth.

And now He helps His Dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones He can take care of Himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary only more important.

He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way, He doesn't have to take up His valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.

Y ou can pray anytime you want and they are sure to hear you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the times.

God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtimes.

Y ou should always go to Church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God. Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong !

And, besides, the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.

God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this.

Because He hears everythip.g the~ must be a terrible lot of noise in His ears; i.mless He has thought of a way to turn it off.

If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can.

God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting His time by going over your morn and Dad's head asking for something they said you couldn't have.

It is good to know He's around you when you're scared in the dark or when you can't swim very good and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids.

Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't any who come to our church.

But you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases.

Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work like walking on water and performing rniracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to leam about God. They finally got tired of Him preaching to them and they crucified Him.

GRANDLODGE CONVENTION San Mateo, California

Grand Lodge President Janet Ruud's registration will be paid by Embla Lodge in accordance with the D ofN Constitution, pg. 7. Other expenses, transportation, etc. will be paid for by Grand Lodge.

PAST PRESIDENTS CLUB At our last meeting, Embla celebrated her 91st birthday. The Past Presidents Club presented the lodge with a new gavel and a lovely centerpiece of red, white and blue flowers. The flowers were delivered to Anna Hopen after the meeting while we hope the gavel with be used for many years to come.

Embla Past President Florence Buck gave the program on the Immigrant Woman.

We are one of the few lodges fortunate enough to have a Past Presidents Club with two active Past Grand Lodge Presidents. It was our pleasure two years ago to host and plan the Grand Lodge Convention in Fife.

The next meeting of our group will be the second Monday of June with Elsie Schwind as hostess . .

For many years Embla members served refreshments to the serviceman at the United Service Organization, Inc. (USO) on South 13th Street in Tacoma. Embla was awarded a seal and ribbon many times for their generous contribution of food for USO buffet suppers and for their continued cooperation with the Tacoma USO Club in this important aspect of the program. [And don't you know the lads lovedall the great Norwegian food and the great ladies that served it]
