Lakeside glamour

The project team transformed this diamond-in-therough into a stunning lake house with breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe’s Crystal Bay east of the Sierra Nevada. The artful interiors include 33 full-sized gran ite slabs. The largest is a single slab measuring 11-feet by 6.5-feet installed in the spacious master bath. Upper-level ceilings are clad in reclaimed, old-growth hardwood. Quality and dedication is visible in every aspect of this home.
In order to comply with regional regulatory require ments, the engineers designed the 1,130-square-foot addition to cantilever over the site. To accommodate the increased lateral shear loads, they added two fullheight, steel moment frames, which were set with a crane. The project, at high elevation and at the end of a narrow street, required careful planning and diligent execution to mitigate impacts on the neighborhood.
Former “Rat Pack” hangout gets a fitting face-lift

Plenium Builders completed the interior remodel and expansion of this Zephyr Cove estate on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. The 3-story, 20,700-square-foothome, configured for entertaining and for lakeside recreation, features a large open great room with ex pansive views, 8 ensuite bedrooms, a large kitchen perfect for catering and cooking for large groups, as well as ample outdoor deck space and private access to Lake Tahoe.
The luxurious estate was originally built for William Harrah in 1963 and hosted many famous guests in cluding the Rat Pack themselves. The new amenities that go above and beyond the ordinary include the Himalayan salt cave, interior spa with adjacent plunge pool and sauna and a 16-person movie theater featur ing a dramatic, mountain-themed mural.
The project team won a Tahoe Quarterly Magazine Best of Tahoe award for this glamorous project.

This home on the Lake Tahoe waterfront was con structed on a steel frame to achieve structural performance and code compliance while aligning the cost of the project with the overall budget. To give the dwelling a log-cabin effect, the PBI team hand-craft ed large-scale, false beams to cover the structural steel elements and clad the ceiling in wood panels. The exterior of the home is faced with hand-chiseled Adirondack blue granite, 1×10 clear red cedar clad ding and ornamental iron hand-forged in the Tahoe basin by a local blacksmithing family. There are four decks, a stone-clad entry portico and gabled eaves with curved timbers and copper flashing.
Part of successful site management is mitigating issues by respecting the neighborhood and the surrounding environment. PBI worked within the tight, rocky slope of the property, protecting landscaping that the client had already put in place.

This 6,000-square-foot, ultra-contemporary res idence has many unique features, including a custom pool with “floating” step stones, an oper able Venetian plaster bas-relief television cabinet, built-in olive burl bookcases and matching fireplace surround. The use of exposed hot rolled steel, zinc and western red cedar siding create an unexpected blend of texture on the exterior that carries into the interior. The wide-plank rift oak flooring is tapered and laid perpendicular to the radius hall that runs the length of the house. The house also generates the majority of its own power with the use of its solar panels. Complementing the contemporary architecture, the interiors reflect modern, clean lines and serene ma terials selected to allow the international collection of art to take center stage on a background of polished plaster and wool herringbone wall covering. The project was featured in Reno Magazine.
Dreamscape on the lake

To access this beach house one can take a ride on the glass funicular or take a walk down the stairway. Either way, you will be immersed in the spectacular pan oramic views of Lake Tahoe.
With no road access to the beach house, the Plenium Builders team had a challenge of getting the materials to the site. All of the materials were brought in either by barge or helicopter and unloaded with a crane. To stage equipment, the team built a large steel platform over the water and equipment was moved out to the platform via barge. Much of the site grading material including soils and boulders had to be taken off site and brought back later when needed. Once the base of the foundation was completed, the Plenium Builders team used an on-site mobile concrete batching plant, 2,200 bags of concrete and 268 cubic-yard bags of aggregate mixture to complete the construc tion of the foundation.

With over two decades of experience he is an exceptional leader focused on building long-term partnerships with clients and designers.
Scott has nearly 30 years of experience managing teams on iconic projects such as the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center at the University of Nevada, Reno and the legendary Tranquility Estate at Lake Tahoe. As the VP of Preconstruction, Scott deploys the estimating personnel and pre-planning tools the team uses to align budget and design goals during each project’s design phase.
Vern is Plenium Builders’ lead superintendent for custom homes and plays a dual role as a project manager. His career spans over 25 years and includes diverse experience in custom homes and luxury estates. His ability to merge hands-on expertise with stakeholder communication on budget and schedule issues make him a versatile asset for our PB project teams.
Melanie oversees all custom homes projects at Plenium. She is a certified interior designer and over her 25-year career she has worked as a draftsperson, interior designer, and project manager on residential and commercial projects. Her approach to project management focuses on leading with transparency, building trust as an intuitive resource for designers, and ensuring her team follows through.
