DEAR FRIENDS

Welcome

W

elcome and thank you for choosing to see a performance at Playhouse Square! We encourage you take in the historic beauty of out theaters and the bright lights of Euclid Avenue while you’re here. Our staff and RedCoat volunteers are ready to make your visit as memorable and enjoyable as possible. Playhouse Square was saved by the community for the community, and we are proud to be the stewards of the legacy left to us by previous generations — now one of Cleveland’s brightest cultural gems. Our not-for-profit mission charges us to go beyond simply maintaining these incredible venues. Every day we work to present a diverse offering of quality performances — Broadway, concerts, comedy, dance, film, family shows and more. We support arts education through a variety of programs that take place in the classroom, online and here at Playhouse Square. We lead a vibrant downtown destination that generates an annual economic impact exceeding $359 million for the region. Equally important are your experience and the memories you take with you. Now, settle into your seat, leave the world outside for a little while and let yourself become absorbed in the magic of the world on stage before you. We look forward to seeing you at Playhouse Square again soon and invite you to consider planning your next visit to see Annie, Stomp and Company.

With best wishes,

Craig Hassall AM President & CEO

elcome to Playhouse Square! All of us at KeyBank are thrilled to see you here enjoying the best live theater experience that Cleveland has to offer. As one of the most recognized theater operations in the country, Playhouse Square shares KeyBank’s mission of helping Cleveland thrive and has proved over time to be a pillar of our great community. We are proud to support Playhouse Square and help bring award winning theatrical performances to our city as a part of the KeyBank Broadway Series. For decades, some of KeyBank’s most important work has taken place through philanthropy, volunteerism, and outreach. This is why, in addition to our Broadway Series partnership, we are proud to support Playhouse Square’s not-for-profit mission and educational programming. We are committed to opening more doors to new opportunities in the communities we serve. Since 2017, KeyBank has made community investments totaling more than $1 billion in Northeast Ohio which supports low to moderate income individuals and neighborhoods through lending for affordable housing, small businesses, mortgage and transformative philanthropy. Our investments will continue to focus on economic access and equity for underserved communities and populations. We believe building a better world starts at home and each investment that we have made in Northeast Ohio is making a difference. When our neighborhoods succeed, we all succeed. Thank you for joining us and for supporting Playhouse Square. We hope you enjoy this KeyBank Broadway Series show!

Sincerely, Michaela Lamirand, KeyBank Cleveland Market President

LONG-TIME BOARD MEMBER, CURRENT BOARD CHAIR AND PLAYHOUSE SQUARE ENTHUSIAST y wife Ann and I have so many special memories of going to Playhouse Square with friends and family. Whether seeing a show with our three children at various stages of their childhood or seeing concerts and comedians with friends. It’s always been a one stop shop for anything on stage. Playhouse Square is a crown jewel in Cleveland’s vibrant arts scene, attracting talent and enriching our community. As a lifelong Clevelander, I joined the board a decade ago because I wanted to be part of and support this critical Cleveland institution. As I begin my new role as Chair, I’m most looking forward to working with our President and CEO, Craig Hassall, and his entire team. I’m committed to helping move Playhouse Square into the next phase of quality programming and improving the experience of those living in and visiting Playhouse Square.

Playhouse Square will continue to shine bright thanks to Brent’s unwavering support, leadership, and dedication to excellence. We are grateful to him and his family for their commitment!

She was born to Jewish immigrants and became a star, building a career in vaudeville, theatre, film and radio. Ms. Brice made her stage debut at Frank Keeney’s Theater in Brooklyn in 1906 and it became clear that she was destined to become a showbiz legend. In 1910 she was contracted by Florenz Ziegfeld for his 1910 Follies and she became Broadway’s highest-earning star. She performed in 11 Ziegfeld productions and headlined the 1921, 1934, and 1936 Follies, where she performed her most famous character, Baby Snooks. Ms. Brice would continue to perform Baby Snooks for a weekly radio program until the end of her life. In 1918, Ms. Brice married Nick Arnstein and the couple had two children together. She married songwriter and stage producer Billy Rose in 1929; they divorced in 1938. A beloved barrier-breaking comedienne and performer, Ms. Brice was honored with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ms. Brice’s career was instrumental to the future of women in comedy. Her life story and rise to stardom inspired the musical Funny Girl.

She married actor-playwright John Harding and had two children, Joshua and Sarah. Some 24 films, three Academy Award nominations and on Writers Guild Laurel Award for Lifetime Achievement later, she turned to playwriting with Funny Girl in 1964. A Tony Award nomination for Best Musical followed and she wrote her last screenplay for the film adaptation in 1958. Ms. Lennart died in a car accident in 1971. Funny Girl producers announced, “Margaret was a brilliant storyteller who represented her husband Jule Styne’s genius legacy with creativity and imagination… Her Spirit will be imbued in our Broadway production of Funny Girl.” BOB MERRILL (Lyrics). We believe that all Cleveland youth should have access to high-quality arts education. Through the generosity of our donors, we have invested more than $12.6 million since 2016 to scale up neighborhood-based programs that serve thousands of youth year-round in music, dance, theater, photography, literary arts and curatorial mastery. That’s setting the stage for success. Find your passion, and partner with the Cleveland Foundation to make your greatest charitable impact. (877) 554-5054 www.ClevelandFoundation.org/Success
