DEAR FRIENDS

Welcome

W

elcome and thank you for choosing to see a performance at Playhouse Square! We encourage you take in the historic beauty of out theaters and the bright lights of Euclid Avenue while you’re here. Our staff and RedCoat volunteers are ready to make your visit as memorable and enjoyable as possible. Playhouse Square was saved by the community for the community, and we are proud to be the stewards of the legacy left to us by previous generations — now one of Cleveland’s brightest cultural gems. Our not-for-profit mission charges us to go beyond simply maintaining these incredible venues. Every day we work to present a diverse offering of quality performances — Broadway, concerts, comedy, dance, film, family shows and more. We support arts education through a variety of programs that take place in the classroom, online and here at Playhouse Square. We lead a vibrant downtown destination that generates an annual economic impact exceeding $359 million for the region. Equally important are your experience and the memories you take with you. Now, settle into your seat, leave the world outside for a little while and let yourself become absorbed in the magic of the world on stage before you. We look forward to seeing you at Playhouse Square again soon and invite you to consider planning your next visit to see Mamma Mia!, Funny Girl or Annie.

With best wishes,

Craig Hassall AM President & CEO

elcome to Playhouse Square! All of us at KeyBank are thrilled to see you here enjoying the best live theater experience that Cleveland has to offer. As one of the most recognized theater operations in the country, Playhouse Square shares KeyBank’s mission of helping Cleveland thrive and has proved over time to be a pillar of our great community. We are proud to support Playhouse Square and help bring award winning theatrical performances to our city as a part of the KeyBank Broadway Series. For decades, some of KeyBank’s most important work has taken place through philanthropy, volunteerism, and outreach. This is why, in addition to our Broadway Series partnership, we are proud to support Playhouse Square’s not-for-profit mission and educational programming. We are committed to opening more doors to new opportunities in the communities we serve. Since 2017, KeyBank has made community investments totaling more than $1 billion in Northeast Ohio which supports low to moderate income individuals and neighborhoods through lending for affordable housing, small businesses, mortgage and transformative philanthropy. Our investments will continue to focus on economic access and equity for underserved communities and populations. We believe building a better world starts at home and each investment that we have made in Northeast Ohio is making a difference. When our neighborhoods succeed, we all succeed. Thank you for joining us and for supporting Playhouse Square. We hope you enjoy this KeyBank Broadway Series show!

Sincerely, Michaela Lamirand, KeyBank Cleveland Market President

SPOTLIGHT ON Amy Brady

playhousesquare.org

THE RIGHT PERSON AT THE RIGHT TIME

I

t has been said about Playhouse Square’s leadership that the right person is there to lead the organization at the right time. This is true of Amy Brady, who recently completed her role as Chair of Playhouse Square. Committed to making the arts accessible to all, her leadership was pivotal as the organization experienced leadership transitions and the closure and reopening during the pandemic. Amy’s love for the arts runs deep, but her vision goes beyond just enjoying performances. She believes that the arts have the power to transform lives — the power to educate, inspire and even heal. When she moved to Cleveland with her family, she naturally was drawn to Playhouse Square. However, she saw the potential to create an even more thriving theater district by expanding the downtown footprint and bringing the excitement of the theaters outdoors onto Euclid Avenue. Her commitment to arts education has strengthened our sensory-friendly performances, social justice programming and streaming initiatives. To sum it up, her leadership allowed Playhouse Square to bring even more light and life to our community. “Amy is a visionary who’s always working tirelessly to ensure that the performing arts remain a vibrant part of the Cleveland community. She’s a true gem, and we’re so lucky to have her in Cleveland” —Craig Hassall AM We are exceptionally grateful for her leadership and excited to have her continued guidance and passion at Playhouse Square. Thank you, Amy!

PROGRAM NOTE Hellooooo Friends!

David Greene

Happy New Year and welcome back to Playhouse Square for Mrs. Doubtfire. It’s hard to believe that we are already on Show No. 3 of the KeyBank Broadway Series, yet still have so much fun in store for the rest of the season. We kick off this new year with a fresh take on the classic 1993 comedy film Mrs. Doubtfire, which starred legendary actor/comedian Robin Williams. In this new musical comedy, the music, lyrics and book adaptation are served up by the teams of Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick, and Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell. (These dynamic duos conceived the hilariously entertaining Something Rotten! which appeared in the season a few years back.) The addition of music and new dialogue material adds layers of laughter and heart to this already iconic piece of pop culture. Leading this cast and playing the dual role of Daniel Hillard and Euphegenia Doubtfire is Rob McClure, who originated the same role on Broadway, and received a well-deserved Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. Rob is joined on stage by his real-life wife, Maggie Lakis, who plays his on-stage wife, Miranda Hillard. Unlike their off-stage relationship, Rob and Maggie, err…Daniel and Miranda … grapple with a crumbling marriage and get divorced eight times a week. We are so excited to welcome Rob and Maggie back to the Connor Palace after hosting them here in 2008 with the tour of Avenue Q and, most recently, in 2017 for the tour of Something Rotten! While madcap comedy is at the forefront of Mrs. Doubtfire, the heart in this story is the central theme. As a father myself, I can understand the extreme lengths any parent might go to keep their family together or remain an integral part of their lives. Daniel Hillard, with his childlike and spontaneous instincts, may not have subscribed to the old mantra “honesty is the best policy,” but the results of his actions can remind us that seeing things from a different perspective can spark new possibilities. Help me in welcoming this talented touring company to Cleveland.

Cheers,

David Greene Senior VP of Programming
