CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

PARK OPERATIONS

Park Operations staff performed several turf renovation projects. With several heavy rain events in June, staff monitored and addressed parks and athletic fields with poor drainage. Crews added top dressing material to the turf, resulting in a level playing surface and proper drainage (pictured, above left). Staff also fixed drainage issues at facilities such as the Municipal Court (pictured, above right).

NATURAL RESOURCES OPERATIONS

The NRD Operations team remained responsive and proactive in maintaining safe and welcoming public spaces. Staff cleared downed trees and storm debris from trails, parks, and medians. Staff also conducted a fish population survey to support ecological monitoring. Planning continued in June for the future NRD/Parks Operations Building and Nature Center.

STATEWIDE AWARD FOR NOCTURNE ARTWORK

Frisco won a statewide award from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) for the team’s marketing and communications efforts for Nocturne!

The team won an Award of Excellence (Second Place) for Best New Logo for Nocturne: Art Trail at Grand Park.

Nocturne was definitely one of the highlights so far for 2025. We’re thrilled to be recognized for the amazing art that reflected such a unique event in Frisco!

ENCOURAGING PLAY

SUMMER IS IN FULL SWING AT THE FRISCO ATHLETIC CENTER

The FAC is heating up as the facility is full steam ahead, from water park operations to summer camps. Staff have seen over 114,000 member visits since May!

Over 300 people played at Fun Float Night at the outdoor water park on June 14. From giant pizza slices to a huge inflatable dinosaur, the floats made the night one to remember (pictured, left). Following the success of the June event, the Aquatics team is planning “So Long Sweet Summer” in August.

In addition to traditional day camp offerings, the Programming and Youth Services team brought back several popular sports camps in June. These include a track and field camp, agility and multi-sport programs, dance camp, and a continued partnership with the Dallas Mavericks to offer their highly anticipated summer hoop camps at the FAC!

DISCO, HISTORY, AND CARNIVAL FUN AT THE GROVE

The Grove at Frisco Commons encouraged play with a vibrant “Disco in the Dark” fitness class (pictured, above left), an inspiring visit to the Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas, and the annual Summer Carnival. Over 100 people celebrated the season with carnival games, a dunk tank, foam axe throwing, and classic treats (pictured, above right).

BUILDING AWARENESS

JULY IS PARK & RECREATION MONTH

July is a month-long spotlight on the power of play, the value of community spaces, and the many ways parks & rec professionals bring people together! Staff planned a month full of fun activities, new ways to play, and exciting activations to help residents discover new reasons to love Play Frisco.

BIKE TRICKS DAZZLE AT FRISCO SUMMER JAM

The high-adrenaline BMX freestyle event brought riders and fans from across the region to Frisco Skate Park on June 21. From impressive tricks and open jams to live music as part of Make Music Day Frisco, bike enthusiasts of all ages and abilities enjoyed a night of fun.

HERITAGE AFTER DARK

The Frisco Heritage Museum hosted its first Heritage After Dark program in late May. This new event series brings the museum to life after normal operating hours for those who may not be able to visit during the day. The first event was “Club 51,” named after Area 51 and a tribute to the NASA exhibit. Adults of all ages enjoyed cosmic mocktails, themed food, neon and black lights, and an alien scavenger hunt. The event sold out at 70 tickets, and staff plan to double the tickets available for the next event in August: “Blacklight Speakeasy.”

PRESERVATION & CONSERVATION

PUBLIC ART RESTORATION

Can you imagine seeing a train for the first time? Artist David Alan Clark was inspired by a historic photo taken of that event in Frisco on March 20, 1902 to design Frisco’s First. Bolivar Bronze completed restoration work on the public art piece in June (pictured, right). You can see the restored artwork in person in Simpson Plaza in downtown Frisco!

NATURE EDUCATION & OUTREACH

June programming featured a well-attended monthly Nature Adventure at Frisco Commons Park, which offered families hands-on exploration of the natural world through scavenger hunts and nature activities. The Natural Resources Education & Outreach team also hosted the inaugural Natural Resources Day on June 12, highlighting local ecology and sustainability initiatives (pictured, left).

In collaboration with Camp Play Frisco, the team facilitated Trailblazer Day, a ranger-led experience connecting summer campers to conservation themes through guided hikes and wildlife discovery stations.

Staff partnered with the Frisco VFW and the Boy Scouts to host a Flag Day Ceremony on June 14 at Warren Sports Complex. Attendees learned about the traditions behind flag retirement, and witnessed a special ceremony honoring the American flag (pictured, left).

IMAGINATION

LEXINGTON PARK PROGRESS

The Park Planning team and a consultant hosted a well-attended virtual meeting with residents on June 4 to discuss current plans for the new park (pictured, right). Staff are incorporating resident feedback into the final plans. Construction is scheduled to start in Fall 2025.

This new 7-acre park will be located in the Lexington neighborhood, west of Coit Rd. between Eldorado Pkwy. and Main St.

MAKE MUSIC DAY FRISCO & NEW COMMUNITY KEYS PIANOS

Musicians played at over 25 performances across Frisco on June 21 for the 3rd annual Make Music Day! Everyone from professional musicians to people who have never picked up an instrument played musically.

Staff unveiled two new pianos as part of Play Frisco’s Community Keys program! Painted by commissioned artists Jodi Pope and Gaurii S Kumaar, the pianos will be available for anyone to play at Kaleidoscope Park and the Frisco Heritage Center.

WAGON TECH PROJECT

The wagon at the Heritage Museum is pioneering AI technology at the facility. Visitors can now interact with adult and child avatars that share a history of early Frisco, pioneers, and famous Frisco families such as the Crozier, Smith-Muse, Hamilton-Jones, Clark and Rogers families (pictured, above).
