SUPPLIER SPOTLIGHT

We have partnered with AGL Energy to deliver 390W JA Solar Systems across our Reserve homes.

The JA Solar System uses halfcell modules, literally normal solar cells that have been cut in half. Instead of having 60 solar cells, as most panels put on roofs do, they have 120 half-sized ones. This results in lower electrical resistance that improves efficiency. Half cut panels also resist the effects of shade better than standard solar panels. This isn’t directly due to the cells being cut in half but because of the way they are wired together.

ENPHASE TECHNOLOGY

Upgrade the Solis ‘string inverter’ to an Enphase micro-inverter system which provides superior App monitoring via the IQ Gateway, flexibility to add more panels later & increased performance.

Jargon Buster

Kilowatts (kW): System size equals kW. System output equals kWh. Example: my 4.68kW solar system generates on average 19.65kWh of electricity per day in QLD.

String inverters: This is the most common type of inverter for residential use. Most solar inverters (apart from Enphase) are string inverters. On a residential solar power system you generally have one per installation. It is called a string inverter because you connect strings of solar panels to it. These are wall-mounted, usually close to your meter box.

Micro Inverters: Where each solar panel has its own integrated optimiser and inverter attached on each individual solar panel, on the roof. If one panel stops working the Enphase system isolates the ‘weak panel’ and the entire system continues working. A micro inverter takes all the functions of a string inverter and miniaturise it to solar panel level.

Monitor how much energy you’ve made, used, and saved so far this year. Choose the essential appliances that absolutely need to stay on during an outage—or let our software decide for you. And in many communities, when you’re not saving surplus electricity for your own use, you’ll be selling it back to your utility provider for cash or credit on your bill.

The App also alerts you to severe weather in your area and automatically prioritises a full charge for your battery ahead of a storm.

Hybrid Inverters: enable you to plug compatible batteries into your solar power system. The Hybrid Inverter interfaces with the battery using a technique called ‘DC coupling‘, and its electronics coordinate the charging and discharging of the battery.

The Photovoltaic Effect: is a process that generates voltage or electric current in a photovoltaic cell when it is exposed to sunlight. It is this effect that makes solar panels useful, as it is how the cells within the panel convert sunlight to electrical energy.

The Stiebel Eltron ‘WWK’ hot water heat pump is proving to be one of the most efficient water pumps on the market providing high energy cost savings and environmentally friendly hot water all year round. This hot water heat pump technology has been tried and tested in Germany for over forty years to ensure consumers receive real energy, environmental and money savings.

For even greater selfsufficiency, Stiebel Eltron heat pumps can be networked with solar PV to create smart systems. The Stiebel Eltron WWK hot water heat pump combined with the ‘EMS’ connection minimises running costs to the point of generating “free” hot water becomes an achievable reality. Heating and self-generated electricity are perfectly matched as on-site consumption of solar power is optimised.

Listed information and upgrade options are effective for deposits paid on or after 14 July 2023. Our up to savings statement is based on a comparison of the energy used by a 3 person household with an annual electricity bill of $1280 (using AER Energy Made Easy figures which assumes an all electric home without solar in postcode 4035 uses on average 4600kW per annum), with the quarterly amount payable with 6.24kW solar (our Reserve inclusions) calculated using the Pylon Observer Software tool at a daily supply charge rate of 94c, with a 21c/kWh electricity rate, min feed in solar tariff of 6c/kW, and a low self-consumption rate of 19.13% (ie high evening and weekend power usage, low during the day) based on address in postcode 4035 with north facing solar panels. Any potential savings gained by moving from a gas and electric home to an all electric home have not been included in this statement.
