THE NATURE
THE COAST
ResidenCE Myrsine is situated in the marine location of Murta Maria (Myrtle of Maria), a place of significant environmental value bordering the two protected marine areas of Tavolara and Molara (to the south) and La Maddalena (to the north). According to legend, Myrsine, a young maiden of Attica, after having beaten her friend in an athletic race, was killed by this friend, who could not accept defeat. The goddess Pallade transformed her body into a shrub called Myrsine, which is now known as ‘Mirto’ or ‘Myrtle’. The complex is situated in the immediate vicinity of a white sand cove. The beach is easily accessible on foot, via a small bridge and saltwater pond leading into the sea. This unique characteristic renders this place even more beautiful and makes the area home to many protected species of birds, like the pink flamingos and the herons, which stand and feed in the natural stretches of water formed by the sea just after the beach.
Over the last few years, Olbia has rightly earned the status of ‘gateway into Sardinia’, thanks to its excellent air and sea links with the peninsula. Its modern airport provides numerous and affordable services for car hiring, parking and storage of owned vehicles. These conveniences provide easy access to Residence Myrsine by taking the ‘Orientale Sarda’, a road along the eastern coast with limited traffic, thanks to opening of the last section of State Road 131, Olbia-Nuoro-Abbasanta.
