NOTICE Notice is hereby given that the 13th Annual General Body meeting of Tabore Marthoma Church UK will be held on Sunday the 13TH December 2020 immediately after the Divine service to transact the following agenda: 1. To receive and adopt the Annual Report for the year 2019-20.

2. To receive and approve the Receipt and Payment Accounts, Income & Expenditure Accounts for the period from 1.4.2019 to 31.3.2020 and Balance Sheet as at 31.3.2020 together with Auditor's Report.

3. To receive and approve the budget for the year 2020-21.

4. Election of Organization representatives and Committee members to include them in the Managing Committee (for vacant post’s). Nomination to be sent to Vicar by 8th Dec 2020.

5. To pass resolutions, if any.

13TH ANNUAL REPORT 2019 – 20 “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favour and a good name in the sight of God and man. in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.” - Proverbs 3.

Introduction Dearly beloved in Christ, one more eventful year has passed in our lives.

Technology has been making revolution at a fast pace and every day we encounter innovative inventions that pamper the human life. Artificial Intelligence and video calls are the latest among technological advancements and almost everything is being impacted. The influence of globalization and consumerism on human life is tremendous. Power of social media is increasing, even to the extent of deciding the outcome of the elections of countries. Even though the advancement of science and technology is delivering improvement in different sectors of human life, the abuse of humanity and fear among the people is mounting day by day. Possibilities of war among the nations, ethnic conflicts, poverty, dreaded diseases, the ecological crisis and climate changes, etc., are global concerns and they are destroying the basic right to live, especially for the future generations. God has created the universe and entrusted man to steward it meaningfully by upholding a continuous relationship with the Creator.

Instead, we see the danger of the stewards becoming the manipulators. Belief and experience of God is misinterpreted by the so called 'Spiritual Gurus' or 'Human Gods' and the believers follow them blindly.

But Jesus warns us about false prophets and so called ‘Spiritual Gurus’ in Matthew 24: 4- . Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.” The Holy Bible teaches us that Jesus Christ is the TRUE GOD and ETERNAL LIFE (1 John 5:20) and our Church is blessed with dedicated Bishops, Priests, Evangelists and believers who witness Jesus Christ through their life and ministry. So, lets us surrender ourselves to the ONE TRUE GOD JESUS CHRIST and uphold our faith and belief. Let us keep away from ‘the false teachers’, ‘the lust of the flesh’, ‘the lust of the eyes’, and ‘the pride of life’ and walk along with Christ.

Trusting in a living true God and understanding His words through the insight and experience is the inspiration and hope we receive amidst all these changing situations. In fulfilling His mission, God will transform the creation; which is broken by sin and evil, into the new creation through the Holy Spirit.

Speciality of the Church is a called out and reconciled community, which no longer live for themselves, but according to the commands of the Saviour, who loved them and gave Himself for them. God asks us to reflect His character through our compassionate caring for the society and to establish the values of kingdom of God in striving for peace, love and fellowship. Showing love for the poor, the weak and the marginalized attests that God dwells within us and that will in turn make the unseen God visible to the world.

As a Parish, we have experienced God's abundant mercies and provisions throughout this year. In the midst of our limitations, His bountiful blessings protected, preserved and strengthened us to be His witnesses.

With great pleasure and a heart full of praise and gratitude, on behalf of the Managing Committee, I humbly bow down before the Lord and present this Annual report of Tabore Marthoma Church Heywood UK for the year 2019 – 20.

1. OUR PARISH Tabore Mar Thoma Church Manchester is a Registered Charity (Registration No.1127602) in England and has its registered office at 195 B, Mount Road, Gorton, Manchester M18 7GG. We have conducted our last Holy Communion services and Sunday school at Holy Innocents Church (Church of England), Fallowfield, Wilbraham Road, Manchester M14 6JZ till 13 th October 2019 and we finally moved into our own place of worship on 19 th October 2019 with the auspicious hands of His Grace The Most Rev. Dr Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan along with our Rt. Rev. Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa and Rev. Aji John (Vicar).

We affectionately remember the meaningful leadership and contribution rendered by all the former Vicars and Members of the parish. We thank Almighty for their services and pray for them.

Tabore Marthoma Church is administratively placed in the UK & Europe Zone.

His Grace Rt. Rev. Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa is our Diocesan Bishop. We as a Parish are blessed by the dedicated service of our Bishop as we continue to grow and mature as a Christian Diaspora community.

We are extremely grateful to His Grace The Most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valia Metropolitan, His Grace The Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan and all Episcopas of Mar Thoma Church who nurture our spiritual development.

2. SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP OF DIOCESAN EPISCOPA. Rt. Rev. Dr. Issac Mar Philoxenos Episopa continued to shepherd our diocese along with UK & Europe Zone gracefully during the year. Thirumeni officially visited our Parish on Saturday, the 19th October 2020. During Thirumeni's visit, our new church was dedicated. We are always thankful of his continuous support toward our church and this zone.

May our Thirumeni be blessed abundantly.

3. OUR VICAR Rev. Aji John continued to be our vicar, giving meaningful and valuable leadership to the parish. Vicar also served as the Head of our Zonal Sunday School during the year. Mrs. Mini Aji (Kochamma )extends her support to all the activities of the parish and inspires us and support church activities including choir , children’s are Tania and Taines , we thank vicar and his family for their valuable contributions and pray to our Lord that vicar’s service among us may continue to be blessed and fruitful.

4. MEMBERSHIP During the reporting year there were 102 subscribing families, 5 families and 1 student took membership.

New members: We are happy to welcome the following persons / family who took membership during the year: Mrs. & Mr. Sony Varghese (Blackburn), Mrs. & Mr. James Koodathinal Mathew (Blackburn), Mrs. & Mr. Anil Samuel (Sheffield), Mrs. & Mr. George Varghese (Sheffield), Miss. Mariam Sam (Manchester), Mrs. & Mr. Jossy John (Wythenshawe).

We warmly welcome the new families / member into our church.

5. GENERAL BODY General Body meeting was held twice during the year and took relevant decisions on various matters. Few of them are highlighted below: The 1st meeting was held on Sunday, 15th Sep 2019. i.

6. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: The Executive Committee consists of office bearers, Mandalam member, Assembly members, Organization representatives, representatives elected by the prayer groups and nominated members. There are 24 members in the Committee and met 6 times to take appropriate decisions during the report year. 7. WORSHIP AND HOLY COMMUNION SERVICES Holy Communion services were conducted at our church in Malayalam mostly on 1st & 3rd Sundays of every month, in English on 2nd & 4th Sundays and Divine Service in Malayalam on 5th Sundays and whenever Vicar was away on official visits or leave.

During the year 52 Holy Communion Services and 5 Divine Services (2 online services) were conducted. Prayer groups are assigned for bible reading and other assistances in the Worship service along with Vicar on every Sunday.

Due to Government lock down (Covid-19) our church could not conduct Holy Communion Service from 15th March 2020 Onward.

Yuvajana Sakhyam members assist during English Service and respective organizations on the Sundays earmarked for them. Altar boys are assigned to assist during the Worship service. On an average of 60 members received Holy Communion on every Sunday. Birthday and Wedding Anniversary thanksgiving were held during the Holy Communion Service. Coffee / tea and snacks were provided on every Sundays by the respective area prayer groups who are assigned to assist in worship service. Some of our members gave the Sermon during worship service at church and also during Lent prayer. May God bless them to grow in His ministry.

We are blessed to have 8 prayer groups and have regular prayer meeting once a month at each area under the leadership and guidance of our Vicar. a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h.

9. CELEBRATIONS / PROGRAMMES / MEETINGS

i. Church Dedication: -

His Grace The Most Rev Dr Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan and our Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev Dr Isaac Mar Philoxenos episcopa officiated and dedicated our beautiful Church on 19th October 2019.

We as a community can’t thank Metropolitan and our Diocesan Bishop for accepting our invitation and taking time out from their busy schedule to consecrate our Church building.

Many dignitaries attended our ceremony among them Rt. Rev. John Perumbalath, Bishop of Bradwell, Rt. Rev. Mark Davies, , Bishop of Middleton, Rev. Michael Read, Former Vicar ( All Souls), Mr. P M. Mathew, UK Zonal Secretary, Ms. Hillary Jones, Holy Innocent Church Manchester, Very Rev P T Thomas (Vicar General) Bristol church, Rev. Shijoy Abraham Zakaria and all the Vicars of our sister parishes in UK. After almost 14 years of prayers and hard work, our church become a reality and we are proud to have such a beautiful place for worship and call it as our own.

We thank all our church members and fellow Marthomoites along with our friends from sister parishes who attended our dedication service.

ii. First Holy Communion: -

Our 11 blessed children celebrated their First Holy Communion with His Grace The Most Rev Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan and what a blessing is it to celebrate the first bread and wine with him on 20th October 2019.

11. Annabel Sanju. iii. Passion Week Services: Holy Week stands at the head of our calendar, the holiest week of the entire liturgical year. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday and continues until Easter Sunday. It celebrates the Paschal Mystery, the passion and death of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and his victorious resurrection, his triumph over sin and death and his glorification by his Father.

We celebrated our Sandhya Namaskaram and services on the following dates; Date: 15th April 2019 - 7.30 pm – Held at Vicarage M18 7GG Date: 16th April 2019 - 7.30 pm – Held at Vicarage M18 7GG Date - 17th Wednesday - 7.30 pm – Held at Holy Innocent Church – Manchester.

Date: 18th Maundy Thursday - 7.00 pm – Held at Brook Road Methodist Church – Urmston M41 5RQ.

Good Friday Service: God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. – John 3:16 It is the time for sincere reflection about life and the decisions affecting it. it is to assess your faith and your beliefs, as well as to ponder whether your values are consistent with your actions.

Our Service was held on Date: 19th April 2019. Time: 9.00 AM Venue: Salemoor Community Centre, Sale M33 2TN Easter Service: He is risen!

Our Easter service was held on Date: 21st April 2019 Time: 6.30 am Venue: Holy Innocent Church Manchester. iv. Onam Celebration: Onam, traditional harvest festival of Kerala, was celebrated from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm on Saturday 14th Sept. 2019 at the Salemoor Community Centre.

Various cultural programmes were presented by our members and concluded with Onasadhya.

Onasadhya was outsourced to Curry Chutty (Liverpool).

v.

Harvest Festival and Auction: Our Harvest festival was held on 1st September 2019 along with our student dedication service.

We managed to raise GBP 5565.00 please refer attached financial report for more details.

May God bless everyone who helped and participated in any form to make these events a memorable one.

Parish Convention: This year our annual convention was held on 29th & 30th November 2019.

Convention was blessed with distinguished speaker Rev. Viji Varghese Eapen Achen from IRELAND. The convention was a blessing to all members who attended. May God use Rev. Viji Varghese Eapen more for spreading good words.

vii.

Christmas Carol Service: This year we had our Carol service on 22nd Dec 2019. Unfortunately, due to electrical fault the service was relocated mid programmes and by His grace a banquet hall made it possible for our choir and prayer groups to perform.

Year on year our church has produced excellent Carol Service. Hard work and dedication are what brings out the excellence among Tabore Marthoma Church Choir and prayer group members. Being full time on Job and managing family can add additional stress to already busy schedules.

Rev. Aji John & Mini Kochamma as usual took the mantle of training the choir. We commend all efforts and pray to God to keep rewarding their hard work.

Chief guest on this occasion was Rev. Fr. Eldo Varghese from Indian Orthodox Church, Liverpool.

Christmas Celebration: Christmas Holy Communion service started at 7.00 am on 25th December at Church. Rev. Aji John celebrated the Holy Communion. Most of our patrons partook the Holy Communion Service and shared the joy & peace of Christmas. Coffee and cake were served after the service.

ix.

Watchnight Service: Watch-night service was held on 31st December 2019, at 10.00 pm to introspect while in the presence of our Saviour Lord Jesus. It was the moments of praising, witnessing, thanksgiving to our Lord for all the blessings we have received during the year as an individual and as a parish. Witnessing session was concluded with a devotional message and dedication. Rev. Aji John celebrated the New Year Holy Communion and gave the New Year Message. Members greeted one another after the service.

Parish Day and Family Sunday: 13th Parish day was celebrated on 1st December 2019 immediately after the Holy Communion Service at Church; the Celebrant of the Holy Communion Service and chief guest for the parish day was Rev. K. A. JACOB and Mrs. Christy Jacob (Kochamma), currently the vicar of Carmel MTC, Liverpool. Rev. Aji John, our Vicar, presided over the parish day special meeting.

Mrs. Christy Jacob (Kochamma) delivered a powerful sermon on the occasion.

16 Senior Citizens who attained the age of 60 years during the year were felicitated with Shawl and flowers.

6 Student from GCSC and 2 students from A LEVEL were felicitated with memento and Cash Award for achieving highest marks from our parish.

Church Secretary presented the parish day report.

Bible Quiz Competition: 2nd Abraham George Memorial quiz competition was held on 1st Dec 2019: TOPIC – BOOK OF ACTS AND CHURCH HISTORY. Rev K. A. JACOB (LIVERPOOL CARMEL MTC) & Mrs. Christy Jacob (Kochamma) were the chief guest on this occasion.

First Prize won by: Blackburn Prayer Group.

Second Prize won by: Wythenshawe Prayer Group.

10. Diocesan / UK and Europe Zonal Relationship: -

Our Parish and UK AND EUROPE ZONAL office members have maintained an excellent relationship. 11. Finance: -

1. AUDITED STATEMENT AND ACCOUNTS the Income and Expenditure account, Receipt and Payment Accounts for the year ended 31st March 2020 and the balance sheet as at 31st March 2020 together with the Auditor's report is appended to the report.

2. VOLUNTARY SUBSCRIPTION from our members continued to be the main source of income. We have received GBP 29188.00 against voluntary subscription during the year. List of members who have contributed is appended to this report. We record our sincere thanks to our members for the generous support and request to increase the subscription amount considering the financial needs of our Parish.

3. OFFERTORY An amount of GBP 17803.81 was received by way of offertory during the worship service.

4. HARVEST FESTIVAL, ONE DAY INCOME, TITHE income GBP 9073.00 was collected during 2019 -20. Our members offered their one-day income for various purposes of the parish. This is one of the major sources of income for the church for its maintenance and development. We thank all those who participated in this service.

5. DONATIONS: We received GBP 17005.00 as special donations.

13. BRIEF REPORT OF ORGANISATIONS.

1. EDVAKA MISSION “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh." Jude 1: 20-23.

The meetings & prayers were organized by the Edavaka Mission Secretary Mr James Varghese.

2. SEVIKA SANGHAM The Sevika Sangham of Tabore Mar Thoma Church, Manchester meets every First Sunday of the month after church service and is led by Vicar Rev Aji John.

The Sevika Sangham meeting involves the participation of 20 Sevika Sangham members on an average.

Activities 1. Sevika Sangham Day: - The Sevika Sangham Day was held on 8th September.

The Sevika Sangham members took part by assisting in different roles in the church service. The Sevika Sangham members helped service by singing in the choir. Mrs. Susamma Mathai Parayil shared the word of God. 2. From June 2019 Sevika Sangham Members decided to give in voluntary monthly subscription towards the Sevika Sangham activities. So far we have received £920 from subscription.

3. A resolution was passed by the centre Sevika Sangham to help people in Kerala for dialysis. Our Sevika Sangham collected funds for the same and contributed £250 to the centre 4. The UK-Europe region centre Sevika Sangham meeting was held on 29 th June 2019 at Nazareth MTC, Dublin, Ireland. There were participants from all the Sevika Sangham members from the region and 2 members from our Sevika Sangham represented Tabore Mar Thoma Church, Manchester.

We would like to thank God Almighty for enabling the Sevika Sangham to participate in the church activities and also the activities organised by the centre.

3. YUVAJANA SAKHYAM 2019/20 was a blessed year for the youth group of Tabore Mar Thoma Church as we aimed to spiritually grow further in Jesus Christ.

New office bearers for the years were elected on the 10th of March 2019 with the blessings of Rev. Aji John. They were Vice President – Ms. Jestin Abraham Secretary – Dr. Sujith Abraham Co-secretary – Mr. Joshua Mathew Trustee – Mr. Reuben Mathew Representative to the Zonal youth central committee – Mr. Jestin John Representative to the North Zonal youth committee – Mr. Christy Varghese Activity Summary for the year 2019/20 a. Zonal Youth Conference.

The Youth Conference of 2019 was hosted by the Zonal Youth Fellowship. The conference core committee included 2 senior youths from Tabore Mar Thoma Church (Mr. Reuben Mathew & Dr. Sujith Abraham). They were well supported by other senior youths from the church in every aspect of coordination and execution.

b. Youth Sunday Youth Sunday was held on the 13th of October 2019. The service began with opening worship led by Rev. Aji John and 2 members of the youth fellowship. Youth were actively involved throughout the service. The sermon was delivered by Ms. Jiya John from All Saints Mar Thoma Church, Peterborough.

Tabore Marthoma Church was represented by Ms. Mariam Sam Kunniparampil on the 16th of November at Liverpool Carmel Mar Thoma Church c. Badminton Tournament The Joel Aniyankunju Memorial Badminton Tournament was organised

by Ms. Hannah George and team with the help of senior youth members on the 23rd of November 2019. There were multiple events for both males and females across all age groups. The trophies for winners were handed out on Family Sunday by Rev. KA Jacob (Vicar - Liverpool Carmel) and Rev. Aji John (Vicar - Manchester Tabore) d. Youth Retreat 2020

The Youth Retreat of 2020 was hosted by Hermon Mar Thoma Church, Birmingham. 7 members of Tabore Mar Thoma Church attended the retreat.

The 5-member team that represented Tabore Mar Thoma Church won 2nd prize for the quiz competition that was conducted on the day.

4. SUNDAY SCHOOL.

Tabore Mar Thoma Church Sunday School

"Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him” Psalm 127:3 Sunday School takes a main part in bringing up our children and encourages them in their spiritual life. The Sunday School is held every Sunday prior to the worship. We have over 68 students coming regularly and there are 13 classes running with dedicated teachers.

Sunday School begins at 9 am on every Sunday with a common session, there is singing sessions prior to dispersing for the classes.

We are following the curriculum published by the Diocese of North America and Europe and conduct the UK and Europe Zonal examination accordingly and our academic year is September to July. Children learn about the Mar Thoma history by studying the Mar Thoma Foundation and Vision which is also part of the Diocesan curriculum.

The Sunday School this year conducted various activities under the guidance of Rev. Aji John.

Mother Day/ Father’s Day Celebration: The Sunday school celebrated the 31st March 201 and Father’s Day on 1 June 2019. Kids prepared cards and presented the mums with flowers for the occasions.

VBS: TMC Sunday school organised VBS at Heywood, Oldham on 25 th Oct 2019 to 27th October 201 , the theme was “God’s Masterpiece” and we are thankful to our vicar Rev Aji John for providing his leadership as VBS director for the children.

World Sunday School Day: We joined all our Zonal parishes on Nov 3 rd to celebrate World Sunday School day in London, around 20people from our church attended. There were sessions for children, parents and teachers.

5. CHOIR. Praise God for yet another year in which the choir carried forward the singing ministry in church and at special occasions. As in all previous year the choir led Sunday worship's, choir Sunday and the Christmas carol service in 2019. In addition, the choir rendered numerous special songs during several occasions like Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Gospel convention, Ecumenical Christmas Celebration, Funeral and Housewarming.

There were 32 members in the choir in 2019- 2020 and God kept us together amidst numerous challenges throughout the year. First and foremost, I would like to thank our God Almighty for blessing us and providing us with all our needs. I would like to thank all choir members, especially Achen and Kochamma for their leadership and contributions towards our choir.

A special Liturgical song evening was conducted on 08/09/2019.

The choir sang the traditional 8colours of Syrian liturgical songs which are integrated part of our malayalam Liturgy. We sang songs from Baptism, wedding, Funeral, House blessing, Holy ordination and Holy communion. It was a blessed evening for choir members and all the church members. Without Achen and Kochamma this event wouldn't have been successful. Kochamma put her time and effort towards learning the songs and teaching us to make this event more grateful. Special thanks to Mr. Subin Mathew for helping us with the Music.

The choir led the worship service in October (19/10/19) for the celebration of our New Church inauguration and sang a melodious special song during the public meeting. It was an honour for the choir to perform in front of a thickly packed group of people from other parishes. Our music was well appreciated by the Velliya Thirumani, Achens and other gathered peoples.

The choir presented beautiful songs at the Christmas Carol Service in our new TMC church and 1st zonal Christmas carol celebration was conducted on Saturday (28/12/2019) at Birmingham and our church choir presented two carol songs. Thank you Mini kochamma for teaching us the songs and preparing us to sing well.

It has been an amazing year filled with opportunities to Praise the Lord Almighty.

Not many in the world is privileged like this. The feedback on each and every program that we participated has been great and I would like to personally thank each and every choir member, parents and family members for their commitment. In the midst of your busy schedules at work and school/university, you volunteered your time and talents for our Lord. It is the greatest Charity. So, a big Thank You!

Thanks to Achen and Kochamma for teaching the songs for every event. Thanks to Mrs. Tessy Abraham (Choir Leader) and Mr Mathew Abraham (Assistant choir leader) for leading the choir and for coordinating the food during our numerous practice sessions and to all those who contributed towards food. To all the youth choir members for their contributions, especially for their enthusiasm and energy during the special choir events. My sincere apologies if I left anyone out by mistake.

In the midst of all these niceties, I would like to emphasize that a strong choir is the backbone of the Tabore Marthoma Church. I sincerely request and call upon each and every member of our church to continue to support the choir members in performing their responsibilities with utmost dedication. Let us carve the leaders of the future out of our young stars. Pray for the next generations to take up the mantle. Yes, it is difficult in the midst of our busy schedules, it needs that extra little push, however, the seeds that we sow will bear fruit for their entire lifetime. Let us pray for everyone's health and wellbeing and that the next year be a year of transformation for the choir.

STIPEND The Vicar who served the parish during year was remunerated in accordance with the terms agreed prior to the appointment. The Vicar is also provided with accommodation and all expenses incurred on pastoral and management duties were reimbursed to him.

Except for the above, no remuneration, either directly or indirectly, out of the fund of the church was paid or payable for the year, to any trustee nor to any person or persons known to be connected with any of them.
