DESIGN PORTFOLIO

I would like to introduce myself-- I am Patricia Kelly, Allied ASID, Principal Designer. I have owned and operated my business in the Monmouth County area for fifteen years while residing in Marlboro, N.J. with my husband and children.

What’s your style? We will help you achieve it….. We make a design philosophy for our clients that will last We utilize Common sense, and deliver Uncommon results

After earning my degree I worked for many large corporations. However, I realized that my passion was working with clients one on one to help make their house a home. This led me to open my own business partnering with Decorating Den Interiors where I could work in the client’s home to build a strong relationship with each individual and better serve their needs. My firm provides highly creative and cost-effective professional space planning and interior design services to both residential and commercial customers. Since starting my business in 2003, I have been honored to receive numerous awards. My work has been published in various magazines. I am very proud to be a member of Decorating Den Interiors Lifetime Century Society and President's Club; and to be a recipient of the coveted People’s Choice Award, Director's, Prism and Eagle Awards for my design work.

RESIDENTIAL: Living Room Project, Manalapan, NJ The client’s goal was to change the children’s playroom into an elegant, transitional space with modern updates for entertaining, reading and relaxing. The layout and dimensions of the room presented a challenge. The room was very long and narrow, the ceilings were low, it had little natural light and was very dark, and it lacked any storage space.

RESIDENTIAL: Entertainment Lounge Project, Monroe Twp., NJ The clients wanted to create a masculine retreat, a space where the husband can relax, meet and converse with clients, in addition to serving a dual purpose as a space to entertain their friends. Our primary challenge was to develop a design concept that would incorporate the client’s antique typewriters and reflect their love of the 1930’s post-prohibition era into our design.

RESIDENTIAL: Children’s Rooms The little boy had many stuffed animals, including racehorses and a teddy bear jockey. They provided the inspiration for the theme of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. I proposed painting a mural against one wall and the homeowners loved the idea of doing something special in their child's room. We collected elements from historical photos which the artist used or inspiration and accuracy. To further incorporate the Kentucky Derby Theme I designed cornices using a diamond pattern to mimic a jockeys silks. The fabrics for the cornice are beautiful silks in shades of red and navy, the child's favorite colors. Various shades of red and blue are used in the mural. Bedding was selected in a complementary shade of red to complete the room. The little boy loves his new room and the clients are thrilled with the outcome.

I proposed painting the walls in an hombre finish and the clients loved the idea of doing something special in their child's room. The colors painted range from dark pink on the bottom to lighter pink on the top bringing in the child's favorite colors. The gradient of color running vertically from dark to light helped to visually increase the height in the room, while the horizontal line helped to make the narrow room appear wider. A shirred balloon top treatment added a feminine touch to this little girls room. The drapery fabric is a stunning shade of purple with a youthful dot pattern that complemented the pink walls. Beautiful frilly and feminine bedding was selected in the color white to complete the room. The little girl loves her new room and the clients are thrilled with the outcome!

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS

RESIDENTIAL: Custom Design for Solar Powered Home- Sure House Project Concept: The SURE HOUSE therefore began with a simple idea: create a low-energy, solar-powered, storm-resilient home for vulnerable coastal communities. The notion of the "shore house" resulted in a focus on indoor-outdoor spaces, and through a simple design transformation, the SURE HOUSE doubles its usable space in the summer months by opening up to the outdoor decks. This outdoor living room complements a contemporary interior that draws on natural daylight and flexible living space to create an inviting family home. The SURE HOUSE is based on three principles: use less energy through smart design, generate all energy needed through renewable solar electric, and be capable of providing power during electrical outages.
