Montserrat Montserrat Montserrat is a sans serif, geometric typeface functional for editorial and digital use. Its outspoken, yet open design appeals to contemporary audiences. Its rounded features and square terminals make it very attractive to web and user interface designers. Designed by Julieta Ulanovsky, Montserrat’s 36 fonts promote infinite possibilities to users.

Inspiration Inspiration Montserrat’s design was inspired from old posters and signage in the first and oldest neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Montserrat. Distinctive typography began to emerge within the city of Buenos Aires in the first half of the twentieth century between the years of 1925-1950. A geometric and imposing style of typography branded the city and exemplified its ambiance for years to come. When Julieta began to notice the rich history and beauty of the urban typography being replaced by exchangeable facades and brand names , she decided to imitate the typography of her hometown using letterforms in the urban space. The typeface, Montserrat emerged in an effort to embody and preserve the soul of the city. The historical region continues to live on by millions of people across the world using the typeface.

Julieta Ulanovsky Ulanovsky Julieta Ulanovsky is a graphic designer currently living and working in the Montserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She began designing this typeface in 2010 while a post-graduate student of typeface design at the University of Buenos Aires. She is the owner of the design studio, ZkySky, which she co-founded in 1989.

LICENSING LICENSING Montserrat was created with the mission to salvage the soul of the Montserrat neighborhood. The typeface was released under the 1.1 Version of the SIL Open Font License so anyone can access and magnify its scope. The quintessence of the region can carry on forever. This license allows open use to anyone free of charge, and ifrequired, the font family may be expanded or modified. This typeface is available on Google Fonts, fontsquirrel.com, Adobe Fonts, and typewolf.com.

The only typeface used throughout this specimen was Montserrat designed
