An Introduction to Old RCP Plan

The selected site/place is the master bedroom which is the most private space in the house. The clients have lived in this unit for about 20 years and only do minor renovations once half a decade.

Their design are very old and basic compared to rooms nowadays.

The interior layout is mainly used for a sleeping space with wardrobe, tables, and toilet. The room is facing the South direction (As shown in Figure 1.1). The strongest sunlight passing through the window facing the South direction, which is good for the client as they sometimes work from home. Based on the layout plan (Refer to Page … for Old Layout Plan), there is a single casement window which provides sunlight during the daytime, with approximately 400-450 lux (As shown in Figure 1.2). A pair of curtains are also installed although its main function is to block the sunlight or to be used at night since the sunlight can’t pass through it (As shown in Figure 1.3).

There are only 2 light fixtures in the room. This first light fixture is a circular ceiling light with fluorescent triple tube (3U) light bulb (Cool Daylight) (As shown in Figure 1.4, Figure 1.5) which only turned on around 8 P.M or before going to bed.

The other light fixture is a down light with LED bulb (Warm White) (As shown in Figure 1.6, Figure 1.7) which only turned on in the evening or night before going to the bathroom.

The wall mounted air conditioner is placed in that position since the first time it’s installed (As shown in Figure 1.8). The air conditioner used in this unit is the York Air Conditioner with 1.5 horsepower. This air conditioner took quite a while to cool the spacious room.

Lastly, the storage cupboard. Even though the cupboard still in a good condition despite that it has been there for quite a while, the only disadvantage is that there is no lighting inside the cupboard (As shown in Figure 1.9) that makes it harder for the owner to see inside the cupboard. Reminding that the ceiling light (Refer to Page … for Old Layout Plan) is not in a good position that doesn’t give any light inside the cupboard.

1.1.2 Dissatisfactory Issue The comfortableness of a room is also considered as an important aspect of a room itself.

Especially in the bedroom area as it is a sleeping or resting place for the client. Firstly, the client himself sometimes work from home and have a hobby which is reading books. Playing games is not the main problem relating to the lighting fixture. However, when it comes to reading books especially at night it might be a discomfort for the client when the room doesn’t have enough lighting. There is no single light on the bed side or a wall lamp on top of the table to give enough lighting for the client to read his books (As shown in Figure 1.10) which won’t be comfortable as its only 6 lux measured (As shown in Figure 1.11).

Next is that there is no lighting in front of the door area when we go inside the bedroom. Especially when there is a storage cupboard next to the door that needs lighting for the client to be able to easily see during the night (As shown in Figure 1.12).

Then for the bed side lighting is not installed (As shown in Figure 1.13) which could be a problem as the client likes to read especially during the night before going to sleep. Without the existence of the bedside lamp it could make the client having trouble reading as well as his eyes.

The next thing is the positioning of the air conditioner. This position of the air conditioner (As shown in Figure 1.14) which makes the person that sleep on the right side of the bed feel cold and frozen as the left side of the bed would feel hot and take quite some time to get the cold air to evenly spread.

Last but not least, the lighting inside the storage cupboard. Inside this storage there is no single lighting installed (As shown in Figure 1.11) which make the cupboard so dark especially when its night time even though the one ceiling light is turned on (As shown in Figure 1.12).

COMFORT 1.2.1 An Introduction to New RCP Plan The new room layout is mainly introducing the new changes, repositions or new installation in lighting fixtures and HVAC (Refer to Page … for New Layout Plan). Most of the furniture are fixed as it has been determined by the client. Though, the main priority to achieve is human comfort more than aesthetics.

The lighting inside the wardrobe is not installed which make it hard to see inside especially when night time. (As shown in Figure 2.1 & Figure 2.2) The new addition of strip light with sensor which can be turned on and dimmed with phone.

The study area is installed with wall lamp which can be placed on wall or clamped to shelves that help the client to work or read books (As shown in Figure 2.3 & Figure 2.4). The bulb used is an LED bulb (As shown in Figure 2.5).

The part in front of the door is installed with a ceiling lamp that gives lighting when people walks inside the room and gives light for the storage cupboard next to it (As shown in Figure 2.6). The ceiling is also redesign so that the beam doesn’t block the lighting and gives shadow to other areas (As shown in Figure 2.7).

The wall mounted inverter air conditioner is replaced with the Daikin series. It is also repositioned to be above the study area as it can solve the problem relating to the uneven air spread inside the room (As shown in Figure 2.8). Now the air conditioner is in better position as the air from it can be evenly distributed across the room as the ceiling fan diver it to different parts of the room (As shown in Figure 2.9).

1.2.2 Highlighted Changes for Human Comfort Light Fixtures The bedside lamp installed using a hung wall lamp which is adjustable to which direction we want it to be (As shown in Figure 2.10). This is making it easier for the user for whether they want to read books or doing other things. Especially when its night and not all of the lamp are turned on as it waste more energy.

1.3.1 Light Fixture Details and Specification The SKYDRAG LED worktop/ward lighting strip is similar to other strip light. The thing that differ it from others is that sensor is attached in the light as well as wireless remote to control the light whether from phone or other devices. (Dimensions : 800mm x 18mm x 18mm). This makes it as a modern lighting (As shown in Figure 3.1, Figure 3.2 & Figure 3.3).

The Ranarp wall/clamp spotlight has double function which can be used as a clamp spotlight or assemble it on the wall as a wall lamp. Also this light head is adjustable. It can be put as an uplighter or aim it to a specific area in the room. (Dimensions : 140mm(width) x 340mm(depth) x 120mm(height) x 140mm(diameter)) (As shown in Figure 3.4, Figure 3.5 & Figure 3.6).

The Hektar wall/clamp spotlight has a dark grey color. This light has the same function as the Ranarp wall lamp (Refer to Page 12 for Ranarp wall lamp information) which has a double function and it is adjustable (As shown in Figure 3.7, Figure 3.8 & Figure 3.9). (Dimensions : 220mm(depth) x 110mm(diameter)).

The Skurup ceiling/wall lamp has a black color with 25cm diameter (As shown in Figure 3.10).

This lamp is suitable for bedroom or toilet. In this case it is used for bedroom which is located in front of the door to give some light to the cupboard next to it. (Dimensions : 190mm(height)) (As shown in Figure 3.11 & Figure 3.12).

1.3.2 HVAC Details and Specification The Daikin R32 2.0HP inverter FTKM series air conditioner has a Coanda effect which create airflow along the ceiling. This feature allows air to spread across the room without creating uncomfortable drafts. This also provide comfortable cooling space without temperature

unevenness. Another feature is hybrid cooling, this helps to control the humidity efficiently even in low cooling loads by developing an indoor unit’s heat exchanger that dehumidify at any time.

PRODUCT REPORT A product inspired from the thermos thermal insulation part. The product that are used are low cost and easily found in everyday life which can be used either in houses or other things.

Usage -

Plastic cup has a role as the external part which in our case is exterior part of a building.

The first layer used is aluminium foil. This material is used because it doesn’t radiate heat into the environment The second layer is bubble wrap which is a good thermal insulator because of its small pockets of air and it can heats up quickly The third layer used is EVA foam. It has a thermal conductivity as low as 3 watt per meter-Kelvin. It is also made of small closed cells evenly that hold tight together The fourth and the fifth layer has the same function as the previous layer which is the bubble wrap for the fourth and aluminium foil for the fifth layer.

The seventh layer is Styrofoam which is used as there are millions of air pockets trapped within the foam which makes it highly resistant to heat The last layer is aluminium foil foam. It is used because it has a good thermal and sound insulation

Materials Aluminium Foil : It can be used as a thermal insulation as it doesn’t radiate heat out into the environment Bubble Wrap : It is a good thermal insulator because it has small pockets of air. This material also heats up quickly and that is why it is a good insulator EVA Foam : It is made from synthetic polyethylene which has a thermal conductivity as low as 0.30 w/mk. It is also composed of small closed cells evenly hold tight together.
