Get Your Home Ready to Show

Although the majority of buyers will see your home online before they see it in person, you should prepare your home for showings before it is even listed. Acquiring the highest market value and elevating your home above others in the same price range often comes down to first impressions.

1 CLEAN & DE-CLUTTER

Potential buyers want to picture themselves in your home. Clear away any unnecessary clutter so they can see your home’s unique features.

Kitchen: Clean countertops, put away appliances you don’t use regularly and organize pantries, cupboards and drawers.

Highlight an eat-in area with table settings.

Kitchen should always be spotlessly clean, including appliances.

Bedrooms: Organize closets and shelves and donate unwanted items. Make beds.

Create a master suite effect in decorating.

Baths: Re-caulk/re-grout tub and shower.

Launder shower curtains. Put out fresh towels and soaps. Clean thoroughly and keep smelling fresh.

Remove evidence of pets for showings.

While your beloved pet is a member of your family, not every one is a pet lover. Clean and hide litter boxes and food bowls and make sure there are no pet odors. If possible, arrange for your pet to stay with a neighbor during showings.

5 CURB APPEAL

Your home’s exterior is the first thing potential buyers will see. Make sure that your home is giving the best first impression.

Home Exterior: For an inexpensive makeover, paint your home’s exterior, including a fresh coat on all entrance doors and garage if necessary.

Yard and landscaping: Remove any debris, keep grass mowed, weed lawn and garden beds, trim trees and bushes. Use flowering plants to dress up the yard, walkways and patios.

Driveway and Walkways: Keep uncluttered and clean. In winter, be sure to remove snow and ice.

Porches and decks: Keep uncluttered and clean. Neatly arrange patio furniture.
