Having completed my degree in Reading College I have spent the years since working in the Graphic Design field. In 2008 I went out on my own, freelancing in Sydney where I was based for 6 years. This has given me endless experience in dealing with clients and businesses from all walks of industry. Having worked on a wide variety of projects from design to print, promotional to ecommerce, I feel I have the necessary experience to be able to work in any graphic design related position.

SNAP PRINTING, ST LEONARDS, SYDNEY - 12/05/08 - 27/07/12 To whom it may concern, Aengus Ryan was employed in May 2008 in the role of Graphic designer and also overseeing our production area here at Snap Printing, St Leonards in Sydney. Our business is a dynamic, fast paced and somewhat stressful environment and over his 4 year tenure Aengus, proved time and time again that he is up to the challenge of the job at hand. Aengus has a positive “can do” attitude, he is well liked by management and staff alike and he is an ideal candidate to work within a team, he is very good with clients, has excellent attention to detail and could be trusted to represent our business when and where required. His juggling of several jobs and prioritising is also top notch. He left in July 2012 to pursue his own business interests, Pixelo Design. I have no hesitation in recommending Aengus as an outstanding employee who will be a valuable asset to future employers. Yours Sincerely 4

WORK EXPERIENCE FREELANCE GRAPHIC DESIGNER

SKILLS 01/08/12 - Present

Pixelo Design, Sydney Working as a freelance Graphic Designer in Sydney I worked on a wide range or design jobs. Meeting & taking briefs from clients almost daily I dealt predominantly with design for print, mainly for SME’s. My largest client produced reports for some of the world’s biggest Pharmaceutical companies, for whom I created reports on their latest drugs and industry trends. My work was varied and covered many sectors from NGO’s to new start up’s, Government branches and large multinationals.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

12/05/08 - 27/07/12

Snap Printing, Sydney This role involved working in a very busy art department for Snap Print in Sydney. The role involved extensive pre press and dealings daily with a large selection of some of Australia’s largest companies. The work covered a large selection of corporate design and print and gave me a good insight into both dealing with large corporations and their marketing departments, and making sure designs that looked good onscreen, translated well to print. I gained a much deeper knowledge of offset & the various digital printing processes.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Brainstorm Media, Dublin & PW Displays My last role in Ireland involved working with Brainstorm Media, a young & vibrant design and print house. Here I was chiefly in charge of all design and oversaw all production for final quality. I dealt directly with all clients, often taking projects from quoting right through to delivery. I gained in-depth knowledge of design for promotional products and print in general. While learning much the business side of design, I also picked up a lot on how to deal with clients, client satisfaction and ensuring customer return.

Brochure Design

6

Brochure design makes up a large bulk of the work I do. Creating detailed reports for large Pharmaceuticals and international trading companies has been a

repeating theme over the last few years. Brochure design is probably my favourite type of job to work on as I enjoy the process of sketching it all out, adding copy, working out the

graphs and infographics and finally preparing it for print or online use. There is a good sense of completion once a job is done.

Folding Brochures

8

Generally required by smaller companies, folding brochures are a common request, especially amongst service providing companies such as chiropractors and dentists.

Often the challenge is to present the brochures in a visually appealing way, given the volume of information that needs to go in them and the space constraints.

These are often the first piece of promotional material a new company will go out with, once it has established it’s overall brand look and wishes to begin attracting customers.

Logo Design The vast majority of my logo design work has been done, understandably for new start up’s. On occasion an established company would appraoch me for a rebrand, but it tends to be rare and is usually if their neighbours daughter originally designed their logo for them in microsoft word. I find it imperitive during the logo design process to get as detailed a brief as possible. Quite often a client may not know exactly what they want, but they often have a good idea of what they don’t want, so there is a process involved in weeding out the bad ideas, to let the right one shine. For me, requesting the client to provide image links to logos they do like is far and away the quickest method to achieving a good end result. Descriptions such as ‘modern’ or ‘edgy’ can mean one thing to one person, but something totally different to the next, so they are not reliable for design. A selection of examples will speak volumes as to the clients taste, logo orientation, style and required font type. As initial logo design almost always leads on to stationery branding and potentially promotional materials, it is an excellent, and varied item to work on. 1 1

Promotional Many of the media company’s I deal with regularly require promotional material to advertise upcoming events and promotions. These generally include large format media walls, novelty cheques, vehicle branding, promotional marquees, tshirt printing and a host of random items, basically anything that can help to promote the gig. The work is always interestig, as there is generally good scope for creativity, that or you end up visting cool places, such as the Sydney Opera House or a media event with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. 1 3
