About the cover In 2023 we launched our refreshed Employee Value Proposition – Lead your way. Lead your way is a commitment to providing our staff with opportunities for a rewarding career, and a culture of care and collaboration.

Managing Partner’s Report for 2023 Leading Your Way What a great year 2023 has been. For after a few years of external disruption, we shifted gears to get on with progressive working arrangements and to bring our employee wellbeing and performance plans to the forefront. This year has seen the firm shift to a greater level of workplace autonomy than we’ve had before, all the while maintaining our service commitments to clients and each other. We launched the national EVP (Employee Value Proposition) in May. Lead Your Way is a commitment to providing opportunities for a rewarding career with you at the helm, whilst contributing to a culture of care and collaboration. A Team with Heart The firm welcomed Dr Tristan Casey in a newly created role - Director of Wellbeing & Performance. Tristan is working closely with the Partners on initiatives to ensure the firm is embracing a holistic approach to performance, development, and wellbeing. The vision is for every Pitchers team member, now and future, to be versed in wellbeing and its connection to workplace performance and enjoyment. This education is to occur through one on one mentorship. July saw many of us get a little bit “country” at PP’s first ever Barn Dance. It was great to see so many Pitchers + partners, trying their hand at good ole line dancing. Our annual Melbourne Cup function has become a social highlight in the calendar, where the fashion efforts across the firm add to the vibrancy of the event. The Annual Staff Award winners were announced at the Melbourne Cup event – congratulations again to all of you. The number of great nominations, is testament to the ongoing development and strength of our staff across all areas of our firm. We applaud those who get involved in the firms various sporting teams, charity fund raisers and client events, showing that there is more to our workplace than our trade. The Rorke’s Drift provides a wonderful reminder of a genuine Team with Heart.

of momentum for our firm, meaning that the calibre of talent that we can offer to our clients is on the continual improve. During 2023 the firm completed several complex and value adding engagements and attracted a number of new quality of clients in all divisions. Brisbane hosted the National Partners Conference in June. The two-day event provided the opportunity for Partners across the country to discuss embracement of innovation, particularly emerging AI, service to clients and inspiring workplaces. Embracing Possibility 2023 was again a year of internal progression with a clean-up of 49 years of data and implementation of new internal systems. We were lucky to have retired partner, Teresa Hooper guide the firm through this complicated project and set us up for a future generation of innovative data use age. A sincere thank you from all of us, Teresa and the Advanced Rollout Team. The firm continues to work towards our 2026 strategic plan. It is a pleasure to provide you all with the 6 monthly update at our town hall breakfasts, particularly when we are ahead of where we aimed to be. It is because of the hard work and commitment from all of us that is creating the high achieving, fabulous firm we are all part of. Lead Your Way On behalf of all the Partners, welcome to those who have joined Pitchers throughout the year and thank you to each of you for your contribution. Your involvement is what makes Pitchers such a great place to work. On behalf of the partners, wishing you and your families all the best for the Festive Season and a successful 2024. Stay well.

CY23 Market Update Edward Fletcher Partner, Brisbane

The recession that wasn’t. Markets started the year expecting that persistent inflation and higher interest rates would lead to a recession, and subsequent market crash, during 2023. Instead:

+5.40% Australia’s inflation rate does still remain elevated at 5.40% as of the September Quarter, although well down from 7.80% in December 2022.

+3.20% The hope is Australia is only 6months behind the US, where the 3.20% inflation rate has plummeted from last year’s peak of 9.20%.

+6.31% The All Ords Accumulation Index is +6.31% through to the start of December. A result we would have taken at the start of the year.

+19.65% Although well and truly overshadowed by the US, with the S&P500 +19.65%. The outperformance has been driven by continued economic strength, moderating inflation and in particular:

+229% & +56% The year to date returns of nVidia and Microsoft, the two primary beneficiaries of the emergence of AI. The Nasdaq as a whole is +36.85%.

6.49% The cheapest homeloan rate on offer by the Big 4 at time of writing. Again, the question going into next year is whether high rates and high rent will squeeze middle Australia into a recession.

3.70% But with Australian unemployment at 3.70% the economy is still well positioned to chug along. 5

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

BD In 2023, the dynamic evolution of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) has seen the role of advisors become more critical than ever. As technology rapidly transforms our industries, maintaining the relevance of staff requires a personalised and human-centered approach, meaning that making business personal has never been more important. This year, we’ve revamped our business development strategy by prioritising corporate partnerships over sponsorships, showcasing our dedication to the engine room of our economy. Business development is vital for Pitcher Partners and all our middle-market clients, ensuring sustained growth, adept navigation of industry dynamics, and a competitive edge. The year kicked off with the Professional Women’s Network breakfast series, marking the start of our corporate partnership events. These breakfast gatherings provide an excellent platform for women across various industries to network and gain insights from accomplished women with diverse and inspiring career paths. Alumni speakers this year included Sue Johnson, Tracy Cooper-Lavery, Jane Carland and Julia Spicer OAM. Our long-term relationship with St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School was further strengthened this year with the announcement of our partnership with the school. This collaborative partnership represents a move away from typical sponsorship and will form part of our early career and vacationer recruitment strategy. Our partnership with QUT continues to deliver outstanding events in our business development calendar. Our team and clients actively participate in various events that showcase the accomplishments of our business community. Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame (QBLHOF) kick-started this year’s Game Changers series with Juliette Wright as the 38th Gamechanger to be interviewed. The Game Changers events are a series of influential conversations with QLD business leaders. Juliette Wright is the founder and ambassador of GIVIT, a national non-profit organisation which connects donors and community organisations. Juliette shared advice with those seeking to turn their entrepreneurial ideas into reality, attributing her success to accumulating wealth to enable choice, being prepared to pivot and problem solve, great advisors and strong governance. 6

The second edition of Game Changers saw Simon Beard, the maverick founder of Culture Kings, interviewed. Simon reminisced about his humble beginnings at the Gold Coast markets, painting a vivid picture of his entrepreneurial journey that culminated in a jaw-dropping sale of his business for more than $300 million. Simon’s narrative was not just a chronicle of his life but a masterclass in business strategy and customer engagement given his profound understanding of customer experience. In 2023 our people and clients once again attended the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame induction dinner, which recognises and celebrates the outstanding contribution of the state’s organisations and leaders. Among the many impressive inductees to this year’s Hall of Fame was Morgans Financial Limited. This induction was of special significance given the shared history of our two firms, and it was a great moment to witness the recognition of their contribution to the economic fabric of Queensland. The final QUT event for the year was a celebration and networking opportunity for those involved in the QUT Corporate Partners in Excellence program. This program is one that we have been a proud supporter of for over 20 years, and it has become one of our most esteemed corporate sponsorships. The program has been responsible for establishing the post graduate careers for several of our staff and it continues to connect us with high performing and dedicated individuals. Corporate philanthropy serves as a means for our businesses to contribute to the communities in which they operate, showcasing a dedication to corporate social responsibility. In 2023, we have been proud to sponsor and support a diverse set of community initiatives, including the Maters Little Miracles fundraiser at Olivia’s Race Day, Inspiring Brighter Futures, Women in Fashion and Precious Wings.

Game Changers

Our corporate philanthropy events aim to unite referrers and clients by encouraging them to participate in collaborative initiatives that hold significance for both parties. This not only strengthens our commitment to social responsibility but also fosters a sense of shared purpose and engagement among our stakeholders. Pitcher Partners Queensland stands in a robust position as we navigate the landscape of Business Development for 2024. Our comprehensive strategy extends its reach across diverse settings, including classrooms, universities, kitchen tables, and boardrooms. By strategically encompassing these varied environments, we aim to engage with stakeholders at every level and we look forward to the next year in meeting the challenges and opportunities of the business development landscape.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

The Whychology of Investing In October, the Wealth Team held an event – The Whychology of Investing – at the magnificent Thomas Dixon Centre, home of the Queensland Ballet. While the building has been home to QB since 1991, the building in its current form was only recently refurbished with the assistance of the Queensland Government and many donors. Central to this project was the Chair of QB and Pitcher Partners client Mr Brett Clark OA along with Li Cunxin, affectionately known as Mao’s Last Dancer, and the soon to be retired Artistic Director of QB. In his opening remarks, PPWM Chairman and Partner Mark Nicholson quoted some pearls of wisdom that were particularly relevant to the topic of the night by one of the World’s foremost investors, the now 93-year-old head of Berkshire Hathaway, American Warren Buffet. 1. What we learn from history is that people don’t learn from history. 2. Successful Investing takes time, discipline, and patience. No matter how great the talent or effort, some things just take time. 3. I am a better investor because I am a businessman, and I’m a better businessman because I am an investor. 4. I will tell you how to become rich. Be fearful when others are greedy and Be greedy when others are fearful. Many of our guests had already achieved financial success in their lives and proven themselves capable of making good decisions repeatedly. Equally, they were likely to be familiar with concepts like herd mentality and the effect it often has on different investment markets. Of course, investing would be a simple task if we could all recognise these moments and then act accordingly, but our own experiences coupled with the people that influence us – advisers, spouses, children, business partners and peers all add to the melting pot that impacts our decision-making process. In Wealth, we know that by simply understanding some of the psychology that influences decision making, investors can help offset their own personal biases and behaviours to enhance investment 12

portfolio performance. To explore this topic, we searched for an entertaining expert that could assist us to link these two activities into our presentation. That search led us to our guest speaker who has made changing behaviours and improving habits her life’s work. Dr Gina Cleo’s interest in researching habits started when she commenced her Master’s degree and eventually lead her to complete a PHD on the same subject matter. Gina by her own admission however is not an investment expert and proved this to be the case through her own evidenced based journey with cryptocurrency. Fortunately, after preparing for the presentation she can now redefine those investments as research and development. For us, it was this experience that made Gina very well suited to share with us her professional expertise as a clinical psychologist and habit researcher so we too can better understand the connections between investment decision making and personal decisionmaking behaviours. Some key takeaways from Dr Cleo’s presentation: • Don’t let sentiment impact your decisions • Be aware of biases • Use logic and objective facts to confirm your beliefs • Reach out to your Trusted Advisors when in doubt Proceeding Dr Cleo’s presentation was our expert panel comprised of Edward Fletcher, Partner of Pitcher Partners Wealth Management and the lead advisor and manager of our wealth management team. He has over twenty years’ experience across multiple investment markets and carries the responsibility along with our Melbourne research team for all investment recommendations and ongoing market commentary. Joining Ed and Gina on stage was undoubtedly the most famous of our panellists, Mr Li Cunxin. Li is a world renown Chinese-Australian former ballet dancer having studied and graduated top of his class at Beijing Dance Academy before defecting to the US and dancing with the Houston Ballet. Fortunately for us he

met and married his Rockhampton born, ballerina wife Mary and moved to Australia to be a principal dancer in the Australian Ballet. While in Melbourne dancing Li gained qualifications via the Australian Securities Institute while also working for ANZ securities part-time to become a stockbroker before eventually moving to Bell Potter to establish their Asian trading desk. Li’s stockbroking career spanned 15 years before he relocated to Brisbane so he could take on the position of Artistic Director of Queensland Ballet. In his role, Li has been instrumental in working with the Queensland Ballet Board and Queensland Government to redevelop this magnificent legacy building and among various honours was named Australian father of the year in 2009 and received an Order of Australia in 2019. Li gave spectators an interesting insight into his incredibly unique background that incorporated the parts of elite athlete, artistic creative, people manager and finance professional and how he straddled his stockbroking career during the GFC and dealt with market biases and client behaviours over that period. Ed, whilst not an elite athlete, surprised us all with some of his more humble accomplishments competing against Simon Chun in pool competitions and had us all intrigued recalling his experiences working in television in London in his early 20’s and how this experience helped him to understand and mitigate biases in his current field. Our Pitcher Partners managing partner Nigel Fischer closed the proceedings and invited all guests to stay on for refreshments. Up on the breezy rooftop terrace overlooking the city, staff and clients mingled under the stars and lights.

Audit

The Audit Team have again had a bumper year, out and about for much of the year, visiting sites around the state. To keep the team motivated and in-touch with the office, Audit teams have been sending in weekly funny photos from site and nominating each other for the coveted Golden Goose Award which is announced at the team End Of Busy Season celebration. The Audit team was strongly represented at the annual PP Swimming event, with star swimmer Travis Monahan proving he hasn’t lost any of his skill. Audit also took out a win at the Trivia Night in their tennis whites! The start of 2023 saw Chris McNee promoted to Manager, with Khine Cail promoted to Director in July. Congratulations to both, well deserved! The off-site Partner & Manager Day was held in the sunny bayside suburb of Redcliffe where everyone worked hard to plan out the coming year, and to continue to build our teamwork skills.

14

The group has grown strongly over the last 12 months, with the addition of several new members including our new Philippines based team – welcome everyone! On the social side the team did a night at Paint & Sip, played pool and also enjoyed the end of busy season lunch. On the personal side we saw: • Andrew Cox and his fiancé Billie got married; and • Chang Liu and his wife Viki welcomed their son Brandon Sijin Liu.

Corporate Finance Queensland’s M&A market dipped back down to more normal levels, however despite this the CF team has once again been incredibly busy.

Our 9th edition of the annual publication Deal Pulse, “Building Tomorrow”, was released in March and covered the 2022 year. This edition saw unprecedented deal volumes and values: •

296 transactions; &

$17.6bn in Value.

This normalisation has continued for the first half of 2023, although relative to global markets and the big end of town not as much as expected, with our midyear Deal Pulse titled “An Optimistic Outlook”. We are currently working on a number of transactions which will hopefully close pre-Christmas. Pitcher Partners national also launched the 9th edition of its Dealmakers publication which summarises the national market and also undertakes a survey of the sentiment of dealmakers in the market. Watch out for the 10-year versions of both these publications due out in February / March 2024.

Some of our more notable projects in 2023 included: M&A Advisory •

Lead advisory on the $25m sale of telehealth business Doctors on Demand to ASX listed Vitura Health Limited. The sale was the culmination of a series of engagements over the last 7 years, from the inception of the business as a technology start-up in the emerging telehealth sector.

Lead advisory on the sale of Ausclimate, a local company selling dehumidifiers and air-purifiers to CDB Goldair.

Sell side assistance engagement for a large PBFA client Pensar ($200m+ t/over) managing the transaction financial information and supporting our client’s management team in their sale to UK based RSK; and

Other sell side advisory engagements currently in progress across a number of sectors.

16

Transaction Support including Due Diligence (DD) •

Complex financial due diligence on the acquisition from NYSE listed Johnston Controls Inc. of the Australia and New Zealand operations of ADT Security & Signature Security for ASX Listed Intelligent Monitoring Group. This was delivered in an incredibly tight timeframe and PP’s work had a material impact on the final price paid by our client;

Further follow on transactions for Home Instead AG (a leading global service provider in the area of ambulant, non-medical elderly care);

Another due diligence in progress for a non-audit client ASX listed; and

We are currently commencing IPO support for a company looking to list during 2024.

As in prior years we also undertook various valuation engagements including continued work for Cura Day Hospitals, and are currently finalising an Independent Expert’s Report for a public company being acquired in a Scheme of Arrangement. Corporate Finance teams from all the PP offices converged on Melbourne in late 2023 for two days of networking, training and seminars at the National Corporate Finance Conference. Kieran represented PPCF Brisbane in a panel discussion and Warwick presented a session on high performing teams. 2023 has seen a relatively steady team, with Jarrod Rutherford, and John Cabesuelas settling in well and both providing key input on a number of our projects. Outside of the office, proposals went to the next level, with Alex and Holly, Jarrod and Jess, and Kim and Gav all announcing engagements.

IT Consulting In the Rorke’s Drift 2022 divisional update, PPITCS hinted at an imminent surge in AI/ML advancements with the phrase ‘stand by for the AI/ML acceleration.’ The fruition of this prediction has been remarkable in 2023, seeing artificial intelligence propelled from a niche interest among tech enthusiasts to becoming a central focus for leaders across industries worldwide. The buzz surrounding ChatGPT, and a myriad of other AI tools continues to redefine the business landscape, and it is no longer a matter of if, but rather how companies leverage this transformative technology to gain a competitive edge. PPITCS is guided by the motto, “Elevating your business to new heights with the power of our solutions.” In alignment with the paradigm shift in artificial intelligence adoption, the PPITCS team are actively pursuing a deeper exploration and integration of AI within our service offerings and internal business processes. Speaking of our service offerings, over the past 12 months, and especially during our strategy meeting in October this year, we’ve meticulously refined our focus, pinpointing key areas that not only define our current standing but also propel our continuous growth within our service portfolio. By leveraging our knowledge, expertise and passion within these core focus areas, we are strategically positioned to uphold the momentum of our success and growth trajectory. Notably, in the FY 2023, we posted an impressive increase in revenue compared to the previous fiscal year (FY22), highlighting the tangible impact of our strategic focus and unwavering commitment to excellence. The sustained cultivation of client relationships is fundamental to advancing our service offerings. As a testament to our proactive approach to customer engagement, we have implemented a ‘Customer Success Program’ model this year with an aim to focus on building long-term relationships and driving customer satisfaction and retention. Our proactive approach has manifested in an array of client visits and comprehensive training and workshop sessions conducted throughout the year, highlighted by a trip to Perth to the Pharmacy 777 Head Office, a trip to Melbourne to the Freshmax Head Office, multiple

18

visits to Douglas Head Office in Brisbane for training and advisory with lots more to follow. The ongoing partnership with DBM, one of Australia’s leading domestic banana businesses, in utilizing our in-house developed ERP and Portal solution has proven to be highly beneficial for PPITCS. Our collaboration extends to the development of software, support, and maintenance services, fostering a continuous cycle of innovation and efficiency enhancements throughout their production, warehousing, and finance operations. The resilience of our robust software solution has not only solidified our relationship with DBM but has also opened avenues for expansion. This is evident in the recent acquisition of a new project from their parent company, Freshmax Group in Melbourne. We are actively engaged in delivering and implementing a warehouse management solution similar to the DBM ERP for another branch of Freshmax’s fruit wholesaling operations in Melbourne, which is set to commence early next year. This signifies our commitment to delivering tailored software solutions and extending our impact within the broader Freshmax Group network. Other ongoing projects which fit into our focus areas include: • Pharmacy data integration for Greenfield Systems, a health information, training, and consulting services provider servicing more than 2000 pharmacies across Australia. • Rolling out dynamic client-specific Financial Dashboards hosted on our PitcherFrame BI web portal using their Xero and Greentree financial data. • Greentree upgrade work and onboarding to BizPortal for Quality Pharmacy Group.

D I V I S I O N A L U P D AT E S

• Power BI and data work in the pipeline for a large food grain and spices wholesaler and distributer. We of course help service our own here at Pitchers as well, and in the past 12 months have: • Worked with Audit and Tax on a Sales Analysis Dashboard for a client using Power BI • Developed a Task Managing Workflow app for Audit. • Created an advanced report for the Double Dispensing Impact in pharmacies for the Pharmacy Division. • Created a secure mailout software for PBFA to send employee documents and tax statements. As security concerns becomes more paramount than ever before, PPITCS recognizes the evolving threat landscape, and have taken proactive measures this year to fortify our defences. Notably, we have implemented Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) across BizPortal, our remote desktop platform, which serves as the gateway to critical systems such as Greentree, and various other applications. This additional layer of security enhances our resilience against potential threats, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive data. In acknowledging our team’s collective efforts, we (and I’m sure many others in the MYOB Advanced team) extend a resounding applause to Neville, whose significant contributions to the MYOB Advanced project have been truly commendable. His tireless dedication in comprehending the intricacies of Advanced, spanning financial, business, and software perspectives, has played a pivotal role in propelling the project forward. Neville is looking forward to a well-deserved extended break over the Christmas holidays, due back in late January 2024.

As a cornerstone of our service offerings and poised to become a pivotal element in financial processing, we are delighted to acknowledge Tim’s significant role as he takes on the role of the product champion for BizPortal. In this crucial role within product development, Tim will spearhead our strategic initiatives, guiding the product to new heights by introducing fresh insights and innovations to meet the ever-evolving needs and expectations of our users, as well as internal and external stakeholders. For Tim, August marked a delightful milestone as Emily, Tim’s daughter and our first Bizlink baby, celebrated her first birthday. Now a bundle of energy, she keeps Tim on his toes at home! We joyfully mark the 12-month milestone of Jason’s tenure with PPITCS, during which he has infused our team with a vibrant blend of tech initiative, a steadfast commitment to learning, and an unwavering work ethic. Jason’s impactful contributions have traversed diverse domains, encompassing support, systems management, automation, software development, and more. His enthusiasm and dedication have been a source of enrichment for our team, and we eagerly look forward to witnessing his ongoing growth and accomplishments in the months and years that lie ahead. As we reflect on the past 12 months, characterized by growth and accomplishments, our gaze is firmly set on fostering further advancement within the PPITCS division. Guided by our core focus areas, we set sail on the journey ahead with a pledge to foster innovation, maintain high standards and sustain a firm focus on delivering exceptional value to our clients.

PBFA

Starting off at the tail end of 2023, I am excited that after many years being separated, we have finally managed to bring the Super team back onto the same floor as the broader PBFA team. Although I’m sure there was some sadness within the Super team leaving their penthouse suite up on Level 39, having everyone together is helping us all feel as one and it will improve the efficiency and cohesiveness of the division going forward. This movement and the ongoing growth of PBFA did require a change to flexible seating on Level 37. With the flexibility of seating, it has meant we are seeing different faces around the floor than we may have in the past and this is already helping build some new connections! Despite the change, we are not homeless. All staff within the division now are part of a neighbourhood being either Yellow Lane, Blue Boulevard or Red Road (as well as our Wealth friends over on Wall Street), so we are keeping our connection to our teams and those who we work with most. Thank you again to Samantha Madden and Lexie Durnthaler who ensured the transition to flexi desking all ran smoothly.

20

On a client front, PBFA has been experiencing strong growth over the past few years and the last 12 months was no exception. Our focus on providing high quality commercial and technical advice to our growing and complex client base has ensured we can continue this growth from not only new clients but also our existing client base. This focus on complex and growing clients has also provided everyone in the division with opportunities to work on interesting clients, problems and projects throughout the year. Although the M&A market has shown some signs of slowing down, the last 12 months has still provided PBFA with several interesting transaction related engagements where our clients are out in the market either undertaking transactions or potentially selling their business. Once again, the ATO and other tax authorities are being our friend with numerous changes and challenges across the areas of income taxes, employment taxes and superannuation amongst others, that have seen our clients turn to us for advice and assistance. Our People

D I V I S I O N A L U P D AT E S

Services team has been very busy throughout the year supporting M&A advisory activities across both PBFA and Tax as well as a huge inflow of payroll tax advisory work for our clients. PBFA staff this year seemed to have followed the Australian trend and really thrown the shackles off COVID with a pilgrimage to the Northern Hemisphere, particularly Europe. I haven’t done an official survey, but I would say that no less than 15 staff have made their way over during 2023. It is great to see that people finally can travel again and that they have taken the opportunity to use some of their well-earned annual leave. I know there is no official competition running currently, but I have also spotted some people representing the firm in official PP gear on their travels - including in some picturesque locations like Lake Como! Since the last publication, the PBFA division has ramped up our annual vacation program. At the end of 2022 (and early 2023) we welcomed five vacationers to the division to take part in a new and improved vacationer program. The program was redesigned to give all participants a handcrafted experience ensuring they get access and exposure to a wide range of technical areas, learning and development, client/business experiences, and most importantly social events! The time of year certainly helped with this, with vacationers coming along to multiple Xmas parties and team events. Then to top it all off, we have had Amelia Thomas and Hunter Viertel-Klinkhamer (Wealth) stay on with us in undergrad roles. The 2023 program is looking at continuing this theme, as we are planning on welcoming seven vacationers to the cohort, which will be our highest number ever! A number of these vacationers are opting to take part in an extended program over an 8-week period.

the management group. It was also great to see the continued representation of PBFA at the firm wide social events, and within the Social Club. On the business development front, once again PBFA are continuing the growth and development not only of our client base, but also of our presence in the marketplace. Our focus has very much been maintained on the middle market in line with our strategy and this year the annual PBFA national publication, Business Radar, shifted gears a little to a more timely and nimble platform, being Business Radar Pulses. These shorter publications are primarily digital and are released to the market in a timelier manner a few times during the year rather than once a year and cover relevant topics such as Cyber Security or Generative AI. At a local level, PBFA along with the broader firm have been strengthening relationships with referral networks, such as law firms, and building on corporate partnerships.

As usual, there have been plenty of social events taking place across the division over the year. We once again got together as a division along with our spouses at the Mingle in May events, hosted at Peter and Cole’s houses. We also caught up a couple of times during the year for a PBFA specific town hall breakfast to share how the division was going with our strategy, congratulate those who have been promoted, get to know our recent new starters, and hear about some client stories. These events have been introduced to the division over recent years and have been a great opportunity to share information about the division that may have previously been held within

Pharmacy 2023 was another year of milestones and achievements for the Pharmacy Division. Robert Hughes joined the Partnership in July and Kirsty celebrated her 15-year milestone working at Pitcher Partners. Life milestones included Jenalee Barton taking Troy down the aisle. The prior year ended with the Pharmacy and PPITCS divisions embarking on their annual Divisional Christmas Event. “Stealing Santa” continued once again, which was held at the Newstead Brewing Co. This was followed up with a MasterChef cooking show at Vanilla Zulu - The cooking cuisine: French. The teams were tasked to create the best Pâté, French-style bread, Spatchcock and Crème Brulé they could muster. Each team did themselves proud, showcasing some real cooking ability and teamwork. A very successful Divisional Christmas Event overall, with fun had by all. In March, the Pharmacy management team attended the annual Australian Professional Pharmacy (APP) Conference and Trade Show. The conference included many workshops, seminars and professional development sessions with more famous speakers including the Minister for Health and Aged Care and the President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. The simultaneously run Trade Show had a huge opening night, occupying the entirety of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. Exhibitors from across the industry showcased the latest technologies and products including sneak peeks at some items in the final stages of approval and testing pre-rollout. It was great to catch-up with clients and some potential ones too. A very busy four days but a very rewarding experience for all involved. In the same month, the pharmacy team spent a day with John Wood from Red Learning where new team members discovered their inner personalities (DISC). It was no surprise that being accountants, most people fell in the Steadiness and Conscientious personality – analytical, methodical, consistent, and precise. The Dominant Team members were competitive, impatient, decisive, and problem solvers. We had a few confident, social, and creative Influencers. The day ended with a BBQ, some tennis and boardgames. We had four managers from Baker Tilly Philippines visit Brisbane for a week’s training in early July. Training was undertaken to revamp the outsourcing portion of the compliance work as well as discussions on efficiencies to the PharmaCFO offering. This allowed the team to 22

form a stronger bond with the team here in Australia. The trip ended with a day at Australia Zoo. The team enjoyed the Wildlife Warriors Show hosted by the Irwin’s and their highlight was Roo Heaven where they hand-fed the kangaroos and wallabies to their heart’s content. The Pharmacy Owners Summit happened in Fiji over four days in September, with 60 pharmacy owners from all over Australia coming together to spend their time sharing, learning, and growing together. The conference challenged pharmacy owners to continuously raise the bar in healthcare and the sessions were facilitated by guest speakers including Tim Duggan, Kamal Sarma and Abbie White. Our clients stole the spotlight at the “Pop of Colour” Gala Dinner, securing the prestigious Best Dressed Award for both categories. We then celebrated Kirsty’s 15 years of dedicated service with Pitcher Partners in October. Kirsty’s journey has been nothing short of exceptional, and her commitment has left an indelible mark on the organisation. Her contributions have played a pivotal role in PharmaCFO’s continued success and growth over the years. Some people may not know, but Kirsty initially joined Johnston Rorke in 2008 as part of JR Bizlink team, and her journey has been one of continuous growth and development. With Kirsty celebrating her remarkable milestone, this was followed up with more celebrations with the PharmaCFO team reconnecting with members of Baker Tilly Philippines. This time, it was of a different kind as both teams prepared to celebrate a remarkable milestone - a decade of partnership! What made this celebration even more special was the surprise visit from Pitcher Partners, travelling all the way to join in with the festivities! The venue was adorned with Australian and Filipino flags and icons, a testament to the cross-continental collaboration that had strengthened over the years. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the showcase of food delicacies from both countries. The Baker Tilly team showcased various cakes including “avocado

cake”, “cheese and purple yam” ice cream, soy custard and rice cakes. On the other hand, the Pitcher Partners team had gone the extra mile to ensure the authenticity of the celebration. This included the iconic Tim Tams, Vegemite, Australian cheese, sausages, Brumby’s bread, and even bags of onion for an authentic sausage sizzle. However, the plan hit a minor snag at customs where the onions were seized since fresh vegetables were not allowed into the country. The sausages managed to pass through without a hitch, and they soon became the stars of the night. The Vegemite, not so much! The celebration kicked off with some activities including Timtam slams. Baker Tilly had a few surprises up their sleeves too. They had prepared songs, followed by a lively dance that got everyone on their feet. While the Baker Tilly team initially thought these performances were for “marketing purposes”, they turned out to be the perfect expressions of their joy and appreciation. As the night went on, the two teams bonded over their love for both Filipino and Australian cuisines. The harmony in their partnership was evident not only in their work but also in their ability to come together and celebrate a decade of shared successes and memories. The 10-year celebration marked not just a milestone but a testament to the enduring strength of the partnership, bridging the gap between two distant lands, united by a common purpose. With sausages sizzling on the grill and the sounds of laughter and music in the background, it was a night to remember for everyone involved. The celebration concluded with heartfelt speeches, reaffirming the commitment to the partnership for the next ten years and beyond. Thank you to the Pharmacy team for all their contribution and hard work over the last 12 months. We have been lucky to welcome new staff members to the team over the year and are well placed to create another successful year ahead!

PMG Feels like if you blinked, you missed 2023! Who can believe another year has come to a close!

Change once again seemed the order of the day for 2023 with lots of changes both for the PMG team itself, but also more broadly across the firm.

The team also celebrated a couple of milestones this year as well with both Tanya and Megan reaching the big 5 0.

PMG officially welcomed Ed Deere to the PP team as our new ICT Manager. Donna Street joined our Operations team in an Office Support role. Beth Edwards joined the People Advisory team in a Coordinator role. Claire Johnston took a walk on the dark side and moved over to PMG from PBFA, in a newly created role as Operations & Marketing Assistant. Sharon Gowen joined the PMG team from Corporate Finance as part of our data cleansing project and in line with the longer-term plans for our portal and data integration project. We also welcomed Dr Tristan Casey to the team in another newly created role as our Wellbeing & Performance Director.

Apart from the new team members, each service line within PMG, had yet again another full year.

24

The Finance Team have been focused on all things MYOB with the rollout of the new Finance and Payroll system as part of the firms move to the new practice management software – MYOB Advanced. Karla, Lisa, Stella and Don have been learning and implementing new processes and procedures across all aspects of their roles as they navigate their way through the new system. Embedding these changes while still managing the day-to-day finance and payroll functions has kept the team well occupied and ensured that no one in the team could say they were bored!

D I V I S I O N A L U P D AT E S

Much to the delight of Sofia, the Operations team grew this year with Claire joining the team to help support both the marketing and operations functions. The team has spent the year updating our WH&S policy, working with MYOB Advanced rollout team on the firm wide system changes, helped PBFA navigate the move to flexi desking, rolled out a new security access system in line with the building system change, delivered a number of fantastic firm wide events including PP’s first ever Barn Dance extraordinaire! Raeline and Donna found their groove to ensure we all experienced a smooth and seamless year in all things support. Megan, Karen and Ang kept our front of house in working order all the while ensuring our clients were never impacted by various upgrade works going on throughout the year in relation to our Audio Visual and our supplementary A/C system in the client facing area.

While each service line continues to thrive in their own right, the success of the PMG team is really around our ability to continue to come together as a broader team and support each other as and when needed depending on what we have going on at the time. The team is excited to see out the end of another great year and each of us are looking forward to seeing what we can do in 2024!

Thanks to years of working side by side with us in the IT onsite support role, Ed’s transition to the PP team and his new role was smooth and allowed him to get moving on a number of projects very quickly. The focus for IT has been the ongoing strategy of moving our applications to the cloud, reducing our overall infrastructure footprint and consolidating our various applications throughout the firm. This year we have also had a network infrastructure refresh on all 3 floors, implemented MFA across the rest of the business, upgraded the AV in our client meeting rooms, and have worked with all divisions on the implementation of various new applications throughout the year. Our People Experience team had a name change in 2023 to People and Performance in recognition to its two subsections, People Advisory and Performance and Wellbeing. Marnie, Alex, Scott, Amy and Beth from the People Advisory team had another full year. This included embedding EverPerform, the KMS (Knowledge Management System), the new National Employee Value Proposition (EVP), working with National team on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, preparing for the implementation of the new recruitment software, and continuing to keep up to date with new legislation and market trends to proactively support the firm into the future. Tristan in the newly created Performance and Wellness Director role has been working work side by side with the rest of the team supporting our staff and developing out the firms Performance and Wellness offering. 25

Risk Management

Risk and Advisory Services (RAS) The RAS Team has continued to grow our client base through 2023 and maintain our ongoing Internal Audit clients. We celebrated Jessica Antonopoulos being promoted to Manager in July 2023, which was a wonderful achievement and milestone. We welcomed increased workplace flexibility, and provided our under-graduate, Isobel Spence, an opportunity to extend her stay in London to work remotely and visit family, following the completion of an opportunity she obtained to study at a London University for 3 weeks. Wow, what a great opportunity this was.

Our Clients Our key clients have continued to be Sunwater (Rookwood Weir Upgrade Project), Queensland Parliamentary Services and AVID Property Group where we have had contracts with these Clients for several years. For one of our first “Client Wins”, the Project will soon reach Practical Completion. For the past 4 years, the Rookwood Weir Project has been designed and constructed at a site located

26

on the Fitzroy River, 66 kilometres south-west of Rockhampton. Although the project outcomes are considered “best in class”, the Project faced some uncertain times during their construction phase: - when an Engineer visited the site who later tested positive to COVID-19. Queensland Health immediately locked down the camp and the project team spent 14 days in their donga-style rooms at the project camp site. - when they had six (6) inundation (flood) events which submerged the project, requiring evacuations and the stand-down of numerous workers and subcontractors. The Project included an important nature conservation element associated with turtles. The project designed Queensland’s first turtle movement ramp and provided a habitat for a range of fauna, including sand banks for turtle nesting. Our team has thoroughly enjoyed working alongside our Client, Sunwater and the Non-Owner Participants, being Acciona, McCosker Contracting and the GHD Group, completing checks of their progress claims to ensure compliance with the financial elements of the Project Agreement.

The Beginning of New Projects Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade – This project will provide additional track capacity and reliability, creating travel time savings and increased passenger and freight services to the growing Sunshine Coast region. We have been appointed to the Independent Financial Verification role which commenced in August 2023. We will be working with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads on this project. It is anticipated the Construction will take approximately 5 years. Queensland Cancer Centre – The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk announced there would be $750 million spent on a brand-new world class stand-alone cancer hospital, to be built in Brisbane with the design commencing in 2023 and the construction in mid-2024. a crescendo. Every stroke and swing of the putter seemed to matter even more in the oppressive heat. In the end, it was Anthony who emerged victorious, displaying an impressive performance on the course. Nevertheless, the rest of the team was hot on his heels, with a mere stroke or two separating them in the final tally. Our day of combined breakfast and mini golf became a bonding experience, strengthening the bonds among our team members and leaving us with cherished memories of a day when we came together, braved the elements, and indulged in a thrilling contest of skill and strategy. This unforgettable outing was not just a testament to our competitive nature but also a reminder of the camaraderie and resilience that define our team.

Who is the most Competitive? At the close of 2022, our team embarked on a minigolf adventure, fusing the camaraderie of a delightful team breakfast with an exciting round of mini golf. Our chosen venue was none other than the picturesque Victoria Park, where we embarked on an unforgettable day of friendly competition and unbridled fun. Our morning commenced with a delicious breakfast at the charming Bistro, setting the stage for what would prove to be a morning filled with memorable moments. Energised and eager, we set off to conquer the mini golf course, putting our skills and teamwork to the test. However, the day wasn’t all smooth sailing; in fact, it turned out to be quite the heated match – both figuratively and literally. Mother Nature had chosen to grace us with a scorching 30-degree day, and annoyingly, we had inadequately dressed for the occasion. The sun blazed down upon us, but we managed to persevere by taking refuge in the plentiful shade that the park provided, giving us a muchneeded respite from the unforgiving heat. Despite the challenging weather conditions, our competitive spirits burned brightly. As the rounds progressed, the tension and excitement reached 27

Super Change is constant so they say, and 2023 was no different.

The year commenced with whisperings of a cap to reduce superannuation concessions and we end the year with draft legislation introducing Division 296, imposing increased taxes for those with superannuation balances over $3m and an unprecedented inclusion of unrealised gains in assessable earnings. The hopeful insist that the legislation cannot be finalised in its current form, but time will tell. And while legislative changes provide challenges, including opportunities to build our knowledge and guide our clients, the largest change for the super team in 2023 was our eviction from the Penthouse. On the 28th of September, the sun set on our time on level 39 and our team relocated to level 37, coming home to PBFA. This coincided with the commencement of hot-desking arrangements from October 3 and the celebrations to introduce Blue Boulevard, Yellow Lane, Red Road and Wall Street were fitting of a festival. The new arrangements complement Pitchers “work-where-you-need-tobe” policy, providing flexibility on your daily work environment, but unsurprisingly as creatures of habit, we are drifting toward favourite desks in a pod. We have enjoyed our first month, and can’t wait to see what 2024 brings in terms of in being included in all the snacks level 37 provides. This year our team also adopted a new work papering system which integrates with BGL 360, the software 28

currently used for SMSF administration and reporting. This has greatly increased efficiencies and made the processing and workpaper system more streamlined, providing an all-round better solution. In addition to this process improvement, we have also added a 3rd SMSF auditor to our panel. The auditor is ASF, and Jess sings their praises constantly. They currently have a much quicker turnaround time, which is better for our staff and client deliveries. They also conduct an annual CPD day in Adelaide, where industry leaders present topical and technical issues. Jo attended in September and has returned with valuable feedback for the team. So, our super team story this year includes legislation and resource changes, team migration and the year in review is not complete without a plot summary from each lead character: Jess announced her pregnancy, a baby boy this time round. Adding a 2nd kid to the mix should only make things easier right, right?? Jess is due early February, so will be around until mid-January, and then most likely off for the rest of 2024, and back in 2025. The big question is “will Jess ever get a full night’s sleep again”? 2023 was a year full of adventures and planning for Linh, from having her hens in Bali, getting married at Cloudland, and flying off to Europe for a month, 2 days later. After an exciting first half of the year, the chaos has finally slowed down and she can finally relax… until

her Japan trip in December for Christmas and New Years that is, a great way to end the year and start the new year! Bec welcomed a second pug fur-baby named Cinnamon to her family. While Muffin (previously the only child) was initially unimpressed, they have grown to love each other the way siblings do. A couple of weeks after the arrival of Cinnamon, Bec managed to escape part of the puppy phase and our winter with a three-week vacation to the US. The trip included a southern road-trip from Texas to Florida and catching up with family in Tampa and Osterville Cape Cod. Bec’s newly retired father joined her and husband Paul on the trip which made it even more memorable. Jo had a week’s holiday at the Whitsundays in September which she really enjoyed. She is currently in the midst of renovating, which she is not enjoying so much! Jo’s youngest is graduating from primary school and she’ll soon be the Mum to two highschoolers! This year Liane was welcomed into the super heroes as an administrator, while completing her studies in accounting. Liane has been a fabulous addition to the team and has established herself as a secret darts champion. When Liane is not at Pitchers, she is busy working towards finishing her degree. Rocky, also known as the “yes man” of the team, has a soul of an athlete and a heart of a laidback person. Despite this dilemma, he teamed up with firm’s elite cyclists to attend 100km Brisbane to Gold Coast ride, the biggest cycling event in Brisbane. With minimal training he was able to keep up with the team for the first 200m (yes, metres!). Against all odds, he crossed the finish line, celebrating his triumph with a camera-worthy pose. Not stopping there, he also attended a 10km charity run (mostly walked, let’s be honest) and impressively showed up at work the next day. In the midst of his CA journey, he couldn’t resist a quick snorkelling trip in Cairns and even participated in PS5 FIFA tournament in Hobart, where he narrowly missed the finals.

Nancy fled the winter cold of Brisbane to soak up the sun in Thailand for 3 weeks of island hopping. Arriving in Bangkok then off to Chiang Mai to relax before the island hopping. The first stop was Koh Lipe and getting there was surely an experience. The second stop was Koh Samui and then back to Bangkok to relax, eat and shop before heading home. This year in addition to usual professional activities Tracey and Simon Chun were involved in reinvigorating the Critical Point Network for Pitcher Partners Brisbane, which involved preparing and presenting several sessions to our client and practitioner network; the super topics showcased were tax deductible strategies to help build wealth, Superannuation budget announcements, SMSF tax planning and exploring the $3million cap, and co-presenting with Hopgood Ganim on the topic of Death & incapacity. And to recharge during the year, Tracey took time out to travel with family, albeit only domestically (passport renewal still on to-do list), which included skiing at Falls Creek (first ski-trip since Covid) and the Waterfall Way road-trip loop including Stanthorpe, Armidale, Bellingen, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay, and all come highly recommended. Finally, Ivana returns from parental leave in November, having spent twelve months nurturing Jacob and Katarina. Most recently Ivana has spent a month in Europe introducing Katarina to their families and enjoying being back amongst the fold. While time on Queen Street may seem dull in comparison, the team is just as excited about Ivana’s return to PP, as she is about having an uninterrupted coffee break. In conclusion, the year 2023 has undeniably brought forth significant improvements in both our resources and processes. The advancements made have laid a solid foundation for us to build upon in the coming year. Additionally, the personal achievements of each member within our team should not be overlooked. Our greatest resource undoubtedly lies within our people, and their unwavering dedication and drive contributes to the collective success of the Super team. Stay tuned for season 2024. 29

Tax It was an exciting year in the tax division, with lots of professional, academic and personal milestones being met. Professionally, the team has been focussing on building a platform that can allow us to sustainably move to our next chapter of growth. So, a lot of team effort was put into revamping our training programme, improving the efficiency of our processes, and putting great client service as our central priority. It was fantastic to see everyone work together so well to get these foundations laid. Amy Davidson (the back-bone of our team) deserves a special shout out for the herculean effort she’s put in to keeping us on track. Josh and Juan also put in an enormous effort behind the scenes to allow the transition to MYOB Advanced to be as painless as possible – thank you guys! As part of the focus on sustainability, the team has also strapped on our running shoes and tried to make regular exercise part of our routine. Fortnightly PT, swimming, volleyball, fun runs and touch football were all in the mix. Fair to say no talent scouts have expressed any interest in any of us, but there’ve been laughs and sore legs galore. It’s also been wonderful to see the team getting to know each other outside of the office. While we might be lacking in the athletic department, the year has revealed that we have some academic superstars in the team, worthy of special mention. Casper Clark-Ryan, Jordan Harton and Charlie Russell achieved High Distinctions in their CA subjects and Coral Wood and Sam Neilsen (twice!) got Distinctions. Congratulations Casper, Jordan, Charlie, Coral and Sam – an incredible achievement! It has been a busy year celebrating personal milestones within the Team! Gemma & Damon Westlake welcomed their daughter Lily on Thursday 15 June. Paolina Di Tripani announced her engagement to fiancée Alan on Saturday 8 July. August was especially full with Tom Splatt celebrating his wedding on Saturday 12 August to wife Nicole (with dog Fenton stealing the show!) and on Sunday 20 August, Robert Bullock and his wife Lucinda welcomed their son Walter, congratulations to all!

This year, we congratulated David To as he celebrated 15 years with Pitcher Partners on 30 June. David has been instrumental in the Tax Division and the team certainly would not be where it is today without his leadership, integrity, and good sense of humour. We also saw several promotions within the team, Jeremy Pacheco to Director, Josh Wilson to Manager, Esher Chan to Supervisor and Coral Wood, Bale Liu and Lucy Edwards to Senior Accountant. Other exciting news includes, Lucy Edwards has taken a year of leave to travel, and while she is missed and we’re all slightly jealous of her European adventure, she will return to us in September 2024. Richard Wu scored a hole-in-one (Hole #16, The Pines - Sanctuary Cove) on 14 October 2023, rivalling Simon Chun as the tax team’s golf champion. Bale Liu had a milestone birthday on 18 October celebrating his 30th birthday balloons and cake. We also welcomed Grace Galloway to the team. Beginning as a Vacationer in June, Grace was initially only going to be with the team for four weeks. The team were so impressed with her and her work, that she is now a permanent member of the team!

Wealth Management

A year of milestones for Wealth

Wealth Protection

Wealth Management celebrated a few promotions in 2023:

Wealth Protection introduced a whole new team with Paul Taylor leading the way and Renee Zhu providing back-office support. Having both spent time separately in Europe before starting (lucky them!), it must have given them the inspiration needed as their unwavering commitment and determination coupled with a collaborative effort has resulted in significantly increasing revenue within their initial 6 months and they are now looking forward to providing further protection and support to both new and existing clients in the years ahead.

• Ed Fletcher – Partner • Morgan Papi – Senior Financial Advisor • Sue Wratten – Client Service Manager The team grew by 3 with the addition of Brooke Macaulay as a Client Service Associate, as well as graduates Hunter Viertel-Hamer and James Panizza. PPWM added two new fur babies to the Team: • Poppy Bonel • Penny Payn Alex married Jordan Payn in July and they bought their first home together in August. Brooke Goodwin married Chris Macaulay in May. Ed turned 40! Under Eds leadership (since 2021), FUM has grown by 10% and revenue has increased by 33% In October, PPWM held their first client event at the new home of QLD Ballet “The WHYchology of Investing”. Over 100 people turned out to hear the psychology behind the way that we make investment decisions. 32

From 1986 through to 2010, when he closed shop, his hedge fund annualised 30%pa and never had a down year. From all accounts he’s a great person too. Beyond that, currently I’d collectively take the team from the All-in podcast.

When you are not working how do you spend your time? It’s almost exclusively family time and then time spent watching financial markets, with 1 or 2 games of tennis thrown in.

What is your biggest career accomplishment? It’s not career per se, but because it’s probability based and involved money I’ll include it – but

34

What do you want to be remembered for? Turning PPWM into a team the firm can be proud of.

What pets did you have growing up? A border collie.

What risks are worth taking? Most. Just have to manage them and know when its no longer a risk worth pursuing. Like cycling.

Any other interesting fact about you people may not know about? It’s somewhat well known but prior to finance I worked in Television in London for 4 years. Beyond the stories, I’m truly grateful I got to experience the creative industries because it certainly helps approach problems from different perspectives.

Grad Conference Update

In March, the 2023 Graduates (20) headed off for our first ever PP conference at the Novotel Geelong. Upon arrival we decided to explore Geelong before heading back to the hotel for our first buffet lunch with our fellow PP graduates. After lunch we headed to our first session which had us seated at specific tables with graduates from all around Australia. Our first day was filled with information about the history and mission of Pitcher Partners, as well as a session on curiosity and how this can lead to improved communication in the workplace. The last session of the first day was a Cotton On case study, where we played a game of corners and trivia questions to learn about all the different divisions of the firm. It was then time to freshen up and get ready for dinner at Little Creatures, a brewery in Geelong. It was a fantastic night to begin the start of the conference. Day two kicked off early with a beautiful sunrise and buffet breakfast. The first part of the day was on DISC, where we were seated with other graduates with similar personality profiles. This was super interesting, as we learnt about the four different personality types and how this impacts our behaviours in the workplace. This session was also followed by another on communication and becoming a trusted advisor. The closing session of day two was by far a favourite

38

among most graduates – a high tech treasure hunt in Geelong. Once again, we were put into teams with graduates from other PP offices with our aim to score as many points as possible by completing various tasks, included singing in public, building human pyramids, dance routines, acting out famous movies and many others. Our final dinner was at Sailors Rest, a rooftop bar which overlooked the Geelong waterfront. Here we got to enjoy canapes and continue forming relationships with all of the PP graduates. Wake by Reach, an external facilitator, ran the halfday session on day 3. They had us take part in many interactive challenges to extend us outside our comfort zone. Some of these challenges included dancing in front of everyone and teaching the cohort something new. As the conference came to a close we said goodbye to all our new friends from across Australia, reflecting on what we had learnt and the new connections we had formed. It was an incredible three days. Jenalee Peck

SOCIAL CLUB

Cultivating Camaraderie: Social Club in 2023 In the ever-evolving landscape of our Pitcher Partners workplace, where deadlines and deliverables often dominate our daily work life, there’s an unsung hero that silently operates in the background, offering employees a respite from the demands of the office. That unsung hero is the Social Club – a space where camaraderie, fun, and shared experiences flourish. Kicking off the year in style, The Boo New Farm brought colleagues together on the well-manicured greens for an engaging evening of Burgers and Bowls in February. The gentle, social nature of lawn bowls provided an ideal setting for employees to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere. In between games, the tantalizing aroma of sizzling burgers filled the air, adding a delicious twist to the night. March saw Social Club transform into a sea of colourful attire and excitement as they headed to Eagle Farm Racecourse for a Saturday Race Day. Ladies donned their finest fascinators and men sported their most dapper suits as members enjoyed the thrilling horse races, bets, premium cocktails, and canapes. The atmosphere was electric, and the day was a galloping good time for all. April marked the start of the cooler season, and Social Club seized the opportunity and organised a Pub Crawl. Employees embarked on a night of exploration hopping from Caxon Street Brewing Company, The Lord Alfred and finally to The Caxton Hotel. The pub crawl was about discovering hidden gems in the city, bonding over shared experiences and deepening personal connections. As May rolled around, the workplace shifted its focus to the firm’s brightest minds. Clad in an array of creative and imaginative costumes under the theme An Era in Time, Trivia Night presented teams with a wide array of categories to challenge their intellect. A shoutout to the best dressed team of the night, Sesame Street, for taking us back to our childhoods. This event exemplified the strength of teamwork as colleagues united to confront perplexing questions whilst enjoying a good laugh over the ones that stumped them. The combination of brainpower and whimsical outfits fostered an atmosphere of light-hearted competition and collaboration. But there always must be a winner!

Congratulations to 70’s Tennis Team for being the 2023 Trivia Champions. The end of the financial year was met with a collective sigh of relief and Social Club capitalised on this by organising an EOFY celebration. Employees gathered to applaud their hard work and achievements with a festive evening of food, drinks, and entertainment at Friday’s Riverside. Social Club infused some energy into an August afternoon with Happy Hour Drinks at Weekend Bar. This event ensued a casual and relaxed atmosphere where employees laid back and discussed everything other than work. In September Social Club hosted a memorable evening of pool and camaraderie at the Pool Masters Tournament. Drawing a crowd of enthusiastic participants, ranging from seasoned pool sharks to beginners looking to test their skills, the competition was fierce with each round bringing forth thrilling matches and nail-biting finishes. Simon Chun and Anthony Smith emerged as the champions, earning well-deserved applause and admiration, just knocking over Edward Fletcher and Lisa Jackson. The Pool Masters Tournament was not only a testament to the Social Club’s commitment to fostering a sense of community but also a reminder that competition can be both rousing and inclusive. What is October without German Beer! The Oktoberfest party brought cheers and merriment to the Weekend bar once again. Embracing true German tradition, Bavarian music echoed throughout the venue and members sampled a wide variety of German delights including bratwurst, pretzels and of course plenty of beer. We will wrap up the year with our final event at The Tax Office, a new venue opened in the Valley (not to be confused with the ATO). With such memorable events, the tireless efforts of the Social Club Committee cannot be overlooked. Since the beginning of the year, members have formulated visions and ideas, deliberated events and liaised with venue hosts. Under the relentless efforts of Coordinator Stephanie Michael, and the patience of Secretary

Samantha Madden, and the money man Treasurer Anthony Smith, members of the social club collaborated to create your events and experiences. The Social Club has and will always be an integral part of the firm culture, creating opportunities for coworkers to unwind, bond and forge meaningful connections. Social Club embodies the belief that people are at the heart of our firm and by investing in the social aspects of the firm people are more engaged, motivated, and cohesive in the workforce. So cheers to Social Club in 2023! Written by: Brendon Yuen Social Club Committee Member

SPORTS COMMITTEE

Sports Committee At Pitcher Partners, it’s not all about crunching numbers and deciphering spreadsheets. We firmly believe in a holistic approach to life, and this year has been a testament to our unwavering commitment to both professional excellence and athletic prowess. As the year unfolds, we pause for a moment to reflect on the remarkable sporting achievements and moments that have filled our days with excitement, camaraderie, and competitive spirit. Throughout 2023, our team members have consistently demonstrated that they are not just masters in their fields, but also dedicated athletes. The 2023 PP Open exceed expectations, proving again to be fantastic night. Players demonstrated remarkable tennis skills despite the scorching heat, whilst a crowd of spectators cheered their favourite teams on. In the intermediate/advanced category, Lochlainn Gaw and Brett Headrick emerged as a dynamic duo, clinching a decisive victory. Their exceptional teamwork and expert racquet techniques highlighted an impressive level of tennis expertise within the PP community. Meanwhile Josh Wilson and Juan Martinez took out the beginner’s title after a fiercely competitive match. March saw the eagerly awaited return of the swimming carnival, the first since 2021. Despite Pitcher Partners having a relatively small team, our swimmers gave it their all and secured an impressive second place with 453 points. A standout moment was Travis Monahan winning the award for Fastest Swim on the Night, his lightning-quick 50m freestyle swim in 24.86 seconds proving far too good for the competition. The Partners’ race was also a thrilling event, with Tom Splatt emerging victorious with an impressive time of 28.99 seconds! In May, we joined forces for the Mother’s Day Classic, a charity event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research. A record 45 participants from Pitcher Partners joined the cause, contributing to a total of 65,000 participants across 73 locations in Australia. The event raised a staggering 2.55 million dollars for breast cancer research! Congratulations and thank you to all who took part.

June 3rd marked the return of the highly anticipated annual ‘Pies to the Pacific’ bike ride. The journey, from Yatala to Byron Bay, is a true test of endurance and camaraderie. Our PP Cycling Team, consisting of ten determined riders, embarked on this 170km adventure. The purpose of the ride was not only to challenge themselves but also to raise much-needed funds for the MND and Me Foundation. On August 27th our PP cycling team joined 5,000 cyclists for the annual Brisbane to Gold Coast Cycle for Cancer. Rob Hughes, Izzy Marles, Rocky Kabir, Nathan Schoenmaker and Roxanne Chick signed up to support this worthy cause, with some starting their journey as early as 3:30 am! Thanks to the Mater Foundation’s stellar organisation, over $591,000 was raised. The Sneaky Links TRL team has certainly left an indelible mark on the 2023 TRL season, with their unwavering dedication and passion for the sport. The Sneaky Links have consistently demonstrated incredible teamwork and skill on the field, earning them a well-deserved 5th place in the competition. With an unprecedented number of staff signing up to participate, every member of the team played a crucial role and their collective efforts propelled them to a successful campaign. Throughout the year, we’ve witnessed the spirit of competition, teamwork, and a commitment to staying active and healthy. Sporting events at Pitcher Partners not only bring our employees closer but also strengthen our dedication to excellence in all areas of our professional and personal lives. We can’t wait to see what the next year brings in terms of sporting achievements! Here’s to another year of sporting success at Pitcher Partners! Written by: Sam Devlin Sports Committee Member

ALUMNI

Kunjan Ganatra ‘Never chase a title or a pay cheque – chase the challenges – success will find itself.’ Never has a statement summed up a person’s career path as this has. We had the pleasure of meeting Kunj Ganatra who is PP/JR alumni from the period 2008 to 2010, to talk about his career and the lessons he has learned since he left Johnston Rorke. During his time at JR, Kunj worked in our Pharmacy Division and has fond memories of Annette IvoryBarker grilling him about workpapers and the need to round up to make the job easier. Simple things but worthwhile in the end and lessons learned for what was to come in his working life. Kunjan is married to Dharini and has two children aged 11 and 12. Norman Thurecht recalled the wedding he and Mark Nicholson were invited to as being one to remember. 500 people at the Convention Centre is not your normal family wedding but rather an event to remember. Kunj’s parents emigrated from Africa to bring their children and grandmother to start a new life in Australia. They were hard working small business owners who taught their children the values of honesty, hard work and trust in life, and in business. Kunjan was a QUT graduate with a marketing degree and a Masters in Accounting. He had had difficulty in getting a job as he thought his name was a barrier, so he changed it on job applications. He landed a job at JR through the goodness of one of his mother’s clients who knew Norman. That was a foot in the door and he could use his name with ease. He says that JR influenced him greatly as the Partners ran the business just like his Mum and Dad did theirs – open hierarchy – one firm. As a young graduate you were given a go and trusted to get your hands dirty to get the job done. These are similar traits to those of Graham ‘Skroo’ Turner at Flight Centre. Kunjan worked for Flight Centre for over 10 years climbing the ladder with various finance roles and ending up as the Chief Commercial Officer. It was a work hard/play hard environment, but you were given opportunities to get out of your comfort zone and learn more about

74

the world of commerce. Skroo is an ‘out of the box thinker’ which was invaluable exposure and gave Kunj exposure to many other ways of operating. This was no truer than when COVID hit in 2020. Flight Centre’s value plummeted overnight and the travel industry had never faced such a challenging environment where survival was key. Skroo’s leadership and resilience over this period, coupled with the trust put in all of his people and leaders made sure Flight Centre was going to make it through. But there were more challenges out there for Kunjan. From accounting to travel and now to construction, he still takes the lessons learned in his career and applies them to his new role as Chief Operating and Financial Officer for McNab, a construction and development company owned by Michael McNab that began in Toowoomba in 1996. They have a staff of over 500 across Southeast Queensland with an annual turnover of $1bn. We are pleased to note that Kunjan referred McNab to Dan Colwell and our Audit team in 2022. McNab is one of the largest private companies in Queensland, with the company recently winning accolades for best overall building quality, as well as top 4 high-rise developments in the state. Michael McNab leads with a blend of genuine care and sharp commercial insight, fostering a unique culture centred around continuous personal growth, and success, innovation, but support to achieve these things goes hand in hand. Over the past few years, the cost of building has gone through the roof and coupled with the shortage of trades people on the ground, the business has had to diversify and look at very different ways of operating – such as managing key components of their supply chain directly out of regions such as Vietnam and China to create certainty and enable the business to deliver on time and on budget. These labour shortages are highlighted by the volume of growth in Queensland with the upcoming Olympics, housing shortages, new roads and wind farms (to name just a few). Diversification into seven new businesses has seen McNab innovate and grow while also

providing certainty to clients in an environment that is anything but certain. With Kunjan now on the other side of the table as a client, we reflected on what he saw PP as today and what was he looking for from a service provider. It was pleasing to note that he thought our values haven’t changed, we are professional and conduct an honest conversation in a relaxed atmosphere to deliver a commercial outcome. As a client, he is looking for someone to lean on to support McNab and himself in a trustworthy relationship for the long term. He did note that he thinks we underestimate the value we bring to the table. This was such a pleasure to hear.

It is obvious to see that Kunjan has learnt so much from those around him, no more so than his parents. His values for family and in business place him in good stead for a successful career ahead. We closed our interview with Kunjan’s opinion of success: Success = how do I enrich the lives of others Norman Thurecht and Lisa Nicholson
