Obituaries Ray Richardson

Ray Lee Richardson, 82, of Ve r s a i l l e s , died Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at his home in Versailles. He was born May 20, 1933, in Sedalia, the son of the late Harvey Lee R ich a r d s on and Francis (Cramer) Richardson. He was a veteran of the United States Army, retiring after 20 years of service. He served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He married Lorene Evans May 2, 1996, in Miami, Okla. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Versailles. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Ellen Richardson of Carlisle, Pa., Lisa Buck and husband Gary of Stover, and Rhonda Hamlin and husband Elvin Ray of Seminole, Fla.; sons, Harvey Ray Richardson and wife Linda of Versailles, and Doug Evans and wife Angela of North Richland Hills, Texas; eight sisters, Barbara Hagston and husband Joe of Cole Camp, Patty Nerad of Cole Camp, Loretta Thompson and husband Bob of Afton, Iowa, Linda Fisher and husband Carl of Higginsville, Kinda Robertson and husband Mark of Florida, Judy Abbott and husband Junior of Stover, Betty Lefever of Tuscumbia and Dean Hammel of Oak Grove, Missouri; brother Loren Richardson and wife Dorothy of Kansas City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Wayne Richardson. Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 15, at the First Assembly of God Church in Versailles. Graveside services and interment were in the Versailles Cemetery. Memorial contributions were suggested to Hospice Compassus. Arrangements were under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.

Norman Steinmeyer

Norman Steinmeyer, 92, of rural Stover, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover. He was born Oct. 21, 1923, on the family farm in western Morgan County, the only child of George and Caroline “Lena’ Brandt Steinmeyer. He was baptized Nov. 3, 1923 and confirmed May 1, 1938, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Benton County. He married Lucille Ehlers June 2, 1946, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover. She was wearing a wedding dress she had fashioned from the parachute silk her brother brought back from the war. She survives at their home. He worked and lived on the family farm until his health failed him. For more than 22 years, he was the handyman at Lake Placid near Stover, remodeling the docks and cabins for the families who made it their summer home. He was a carpenter, who enjoyed making and giving “Jesus” plaques to family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover. In addition to his wife of 69 years, he is survived by children, Carol Spaulding and husband Carl of Versailles, Phil Steinmeyer of Ottawa, Kan., and Sue Day of Pilot Grove; one granddaughter; along with other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 18, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Gerald Kurka officiating. The music played was “It Is Well With My Soul,” “The Lord’s My Shepherd,” and “Amazing Grace.” Interment was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Stover. Pallbearers were Kenny Steinmeyer, Tim Kerksiek, Robert Koester, Roy Ehlers, Junior Abbott and Dan Wolfe. Memorial contributions were suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran School, or the LWML. Arrangements were under the direction of the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.

Lois Schick

Lois Gwendolyn (Ferguson) Schick, 98, of Versailles, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2016, at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born June 21, 1917. She worked for Gunn Clinic in Versailles for many years, and later Good Shepherd Care Center where she retired in 1982. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, word searches, Wheel of Fortune, bird watching, gardening, and being outdoors. She is survived by daughter Eva Schick of Eldon; granddaughter Sheila Maxwell of California, Mo.; grandson Billy D. Schick, Jr. of Illinois; one great-granddaughter; one greatgrandson; and eight great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Billy D. Schick Sr.; and brothers, Paul Ferguson, Herb Ferguson, Bud Ferguson and James Ferguson. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled at this time. Versailles Rural Fire Report

The Versailles Rural Fire Department recently responded to the following calls. On Tuesday, Jan. 12, four personnel and two apparatus were dispatched for mutual aid to Gravois Mills Fire Department for a structure fire. Units were on

scene approximately one hour. On Saturday, Jan. 16, personnel were dispatched for medical assistance. On Monday, Jan. 18, personnel were dispatched for medical assistance.
