Understanding the Distribution of Tax Dollars in Piper USD 203 When residents of Wyandotte County pay their property taxes, only a portion of that money actually goes to Piper USD 203. The graphic on the left visually represents how every tax dollar is divided among different jurisdictions.

What This Means for Piper Schools Out of every $1 in property taxes, only 38 cents stays with Piper USD 203 to fund the education of our students, maintain school facilities, support teachers, and provide essential resources. The majority—62 cents—goes to other government entities before it ever reaches our schools.

Why This Matters • Many assume that most of their property taxes go directly to local schools, but in reality, Piper USD 203 receives less than 40% of the total tax dollar.

• This highlights why local bond elections and school funding measures are critical—districts must secure additional funding to maintain and improve school facilities and programs.

Your Voice Matters – Please Vote on April 15 On April 15, 2025, Piper voters will have the opportunity to decide on Phase 2 of the Bond Election, which proposes $32.5 million for facility and technology enhancements, land acquisition, and growth accommodation. In December 2024, Piper Unified School District 203 partnered with ExcellenceK12 to conduct a telephone survey of 300 randomly selected registered voters within the district. The survey aimed to assess community perceptions of the district’s performance and priorities. The results reaffirm that Piper USD 203 is excelling in multiple areas and enjoys strong support from its stakeholders.

There were 11 factors measured with a 5-point weighted scale—where 5.00 = A, 4.00 = B, 3.00 = C, 2.00 = D, and 1.00 = F. We are thrilled to share that the district’s overall performance rating was 4.23.

Notably, a perfect score of 5.00 would require unanimous A ratings from all 300 respondents.

The highest-rated areas included: • Quality of school facilities – 4.55 • Student safety – 4.50

Quality of education – 4.31 Technology available to students – 4.31 Student preparation for college, vocational training, or employment – 4.30

According to Excellence K12, these ratings are among the highest recorded in similar surveys across Kansas and the Midwest.

In addition, respondents were asked to indicate their level of agreement with key statements regarding Piper USD 203.

• The quality of Piper USD 203 provides a strong foundation for property values in our area – 97% agreement • It’s important to maintain and update our school buildings to protect our community’s investment – 95% agreement • Investing in school improvements now will benefit future generations of students and homeowners – 91% agreement • I’m proud of our schools and support ongoing efforts to keep them in top condition – 88% agreement • I’m willing to support building improvements to ensure Piper USD 203 offers education equal to or better than neighboring districts – 82% agreement

Hometown NFL Star, Cooper Beebe Visits themes tied to Future Ready learning—third graders, focused on biography projects, explored storytelling through Beebe’s personal Piper Creek Elementary experiences; fourth graders were inspired to embrace creativity; and fifth graders, centered on leadership and impact, were encouraged to see themselves as future change-makers in their communities.

Beebe made an impressive NFL debut as the starting center for the Dallas Cowboys during this his rookie season, and prior to playing professionally, he was a standout at Kansas State University. His journey from Piper to professional football serves as an inspiring example of how dedication and perseverance can lead to extraordinary success.

Piper Creek Elementary School was honored to welcome Piper alum and Dallas Cowboys player Cooper Beebe for a special visit, where he shared his journey from Piper to Kansas State University and the NFL. His visit aligned with the school’s Future Ready goals, encouraging students to think about their own futures and the skills they are developing today. During the assembly, Beebe engaged students through grade-level

Along with his motivational speech, Beebe engaged students in a hands-on trivia challenge and participated in a throw/hike competition, creating an exciting and interactive experience.

He also took time to take photos with students, leaving them with unforgettable memories.

The district appreciates Cooper Beebe’s visit and his commitment to inspiring the next generation of Pirates. Once a Pirate, always a Pirate!
