Elizabeth How are you involved in the School? I’m a Senior Prefect and one of my greatest achievements to date is setting up and running Enigma which is a science club for students in Years 9 to 11. It challenges the more academically-able students in the year and I try to keep it interesting and engaging with lots of experiments.

Why did you choose to study in the Sixth Form at Pipers? Pipers has excellent exams results and many of its students go on to study at Russell Group universities. It is important that you enjoy your time at Sixth Form but ultimately you want to achieve excellent exam results and that’s what Pipers works with you to achieve. Another reasons I chose Pipers was the smaller class sizes. The teachers know the students individually and will help you to achieve your potential. If you’re struggling they will always give you the extra support you need and the School has so many great resources to help you.

What do you enjoy most about life in the Sixth Form?

Which extra-curricular activities do you participate in?

I enjoy the extra-curricular opportunities in the Sixth Form, there’s so much you can do. Also, I love the Sixth Form Centre as it’s a lovely space. In study periods it’s really quiet so it makes a great place to work but then at break and lunch time it’s fun to just hang out, chat with friends and make toast! We also have the Cloud Room too and access to the library which is another lovely place to work.

I do Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) and I’m about to do my Gold Award. I think it’s great that the School offers DofE as it’s a challenge and allows you to do other things such as volunteering and a summer residential. I’m part of the HOPE Environment Club and have been involved in debating too. I’m also part of the Vets, Medics and Scientist club where we get help with the university application process.

Do you have a favourite subject?

I’ve been having flute lessons in school since I started at Pipers in Year 7 and I’m part of the school orchestra. I’m currently working towards my Grade 7.

Chemistry is my favourite subject because I love the lessons and the teachers always make it so interactive. I’ve had the same teacher throughout my time at Pipers. I’ve enjoyed all of my lessons more in Sixth Form as they help to stretch our understanding of the subject. It’s good to now be going into greater depth and focus on just three subjects. Everyone in class is there because they’ve chosen that subject and are passionate about learning.

What do you hope to do after completing your A Levels? When I leave Pipers I hope to go to university and study Medicine. I’m considering Birmingham, Southampton, Manchester and Sheffield. I always knew that I enjoyed science and wanted to do something science-based but it was only in Year 11 that I started to look into what I could actually study and went to lots of webinars about Medicine.
