s the seasons change and fall begins to come here in Oklahoma, the PtHA is gearing up for the Color Breed Congress.

We are working hard to get everything together for this year’s show. I am also pleased to announce that the Mule & Donkey Congress Show will be returning this year. Please welcome these exhibitors into the Pinto Family.

As always, I look forward to seeing old friends and new faces at the 2017 Color Breed Congress. This year’s show will be held November 3-11 at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Mule & Donkey Congress Show will have its classes November 3-5.

With that said, I am excited to introduce the new Long Ear Division.

elcome to the Fall edition of the Pinto Horse Magazine. I hope everyone had a terrific, successful and safe summer. I know I have!

One of my highlights, other than the PWC was attending the Indiana Pinto Horse Club’s 50th Anniversary show! Wyneta Duncan and Bobbieann (BA) Lawrence have been part of Indiana Pinto since the beginning. That is hard to believe as they don’t look that old.

You guys are rock stars! Joe and Barbara Grissom as well as Annette Pitcher are not too far behind them but they will never be able catch up (lol). John and Mary Kile came from Ohio to celebrate as did Mike and Mary Sue Adams from Illinois. I was so happy to see my regular/weekend Pinto peeps. It was an incredible show of support for the Indiana charter. The pot luck was unbelievable. There was so much food! The cake was amazing. Everyone had such a good time. I actually sat back and was awestruck by the camaraderie. Thanks for having us be part of your celebration. I would be remise by not pointing out that New England Pinto is also celebrating 50 years. Congratulations! You know you hold a special place in my heart!

One of the greatest things I have learned this summer is how much people LOVE Pinto. I have talked to so many people who have “crossed over” because of how awesome Pinto is. It’s so nice to see new faces. Remember to take the time to help out someone who is new to Pinto. That’s what makes us a family. This is a perfect place to tell you about the new addition to the Pinto Family; Donkey and Mules; both regular and miniatures. It will be known as the LONG EAR division. They will earn ROM/ROE as well as advanced awards. Check the website for more information. This is going to be awesome and a lot of fun. I want to personally welcome you to Pinto.

I know that I am super pumped for the Color Breed Congress. It starts on November 3, 2017 in conjunction with the Donkey and Mule Show. This is an incredible show. I was so impressed by the Donkey and Mule show last year, I can’t wait to see what this year brings. The Color Breed Congress runs until November 11, 2017. If you have never been, it is a really fun show. The prizes are fabulous. Check out the Pinto website for more information. If you have wanted to show the PWC but thought it a bit overwhelming, this is a great place to start. I have been going since the beginning.

I want to end by saying my thoughts and prayers go out to our Pinto family in the Pacific Northwest who are dealing with the wildfires. One of our wonderful members explained to me the long-term effects on the horses who may not be displaced but are breathing in the smoke and the effects that has. (Thanks TB for the education). We do not deal with fires in New Hampshire. To our Pinto peeps in Texas and Florida (and surrounding States) who took on Harvey and Irma; our thoughts and prayers are with you. I was blown away as to how many people opened their (barn) doors to get horses and families out of harm’s way. The American Association of Equine Practitioners Foundation is accepting donations if you want to help.

YEAR END AWARDS The highest point earners of the year will take home custom Burns Saddlery Saddles.

The award will be calculated by ROM points earned at PtHA® approved shows from Jan. 1 – Dec. 31. The award will be given to the highest point earner in three divisions: Youth 18 & Under, Amateur 19 & Over and Open Pinto.

For the youth and amateur division, the award will be calculated for units only. A unit is defined by the PtHA® rulebook as one youth/one Pinto or one amateur/one Pinto. Ties within a division will be broken as follows: the first tie will be awarded to the unit that earned points in the greatest number of PtHA® approved local shows, the second tie will be awarded to the unit that earned points in the greatest number of PtHA® ROM-pointed classes, subsequent ties will be awarded to the unit with the most first place point-earning wins, second place point-earning wins, etc.

To be eligible: Exhibitor must be a member in good standing with PtHA®.

The Pinto must be registered in PtHA®’s regular registry.

The following will not count toward the high point award: Points earned at the Pinto World Championship Show.

Points earned from the average card at a Jubilee show.

Points earned from a Novice, costume, leadline, walk/trot, produce of dam, get of sire, grand and reserve halter class or any other non-point earning class.

The award: A Burns Saddlery saddle will be given in each division. The saddle will be presented at the Annual PtHA® Convention.

Award saddles are not redeemable for cash. Forfeited prizes will become property of PtHA® and/or Burns Saddlery.

Don’t forget to renew your amateur card as well as your individual membership. Do this early to avoid the daybefore-the-show rush. You can check the PtHA® Rulebook if you need details on what qualifies as an amateur with the association.

To make it easier for you to attend, the Annual Youth Meeting will be held in conjunction with the Pinto World Championship this year! Gather up a group from your charter and have a road trip, or get on Facebook and make some new friends before you get there! We have a lot of fun things in the works, so be sure to make plans to attend!

REPRESENT

Represent your state at national PtHA® functions! Be a Youth Director! As a Youth Director, you will be able to represent your state at national meetings in addition to informing the youth in your area of national activities. This is also the only way to be eligible to become an officer of PtHYA! To become a Youth Director, simply fill out the application found on www.pinto.org/youth and return it to the PtHA® office. Applications will be reviewed and applicants will be notified in January of acceptance. The number of Youth Directors allowed per state corresponds to the number allowed for PtHA® Board of Directors. To see how many directors are allowed in your state, check the youth page of www.pinto. org. In the case where more members from the same state apply than are allowed, the director will be chosen on PtHA® involvement and potential service.

The Pinto Horse Association of America, Inc. is proud to welcome the largest color breed horse show in the world. Colored horses from three different associations will gather for the Color Breed Congress, Nov. 3 – 11, 2017, at the Built Ford Tough Livestock Complex at the Expo Square in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The Color Breed Congress encompasses three separate breed shows into one. The participating breeds include: the Pinto Horse Association, Palomino Horse Breeders of America and the Appaloosa Horse Club.

In addition to specific breed classes, exhibitors will get the chance to compete against one another in the Champion of Champion classes. These classes are designed for winners of certain youth, amateur, and open classes to compete against one another for the true color champion in their respective breed and category.

With an award budget of well over $150,000, awards will be abundant during the show. Awards will include: jackets from Tioga Territory for class champions (with three or 12 • PINTO HORSE® ONLINE • FALL 2017

more entries), medallions for 1st-10th place in each class, Gist Silversmith custom belt buckles and Kensington Protective Products for high point winners. Scholarships will be given this year to high point overall youth winners within each breed. The scholarships will be redeemable upon enrollment in college. Shorty’s hats will be awarded to reserve high point overall youth winners within each breed.

“Every year we are pleased to give out great awards to our exhibitors,” said Darrell Bilke, PtHA Exec. VP and Chief Operating Officer. “The association would like to thank our Corporate Sponsors; we would not be able to have such a fantastic show without their support.”

The Cash Challenge classes will sure to be a success again, with an estimated purse of $15,000! In addition to the breeds at the show, horse registered as the following can participate: APHA, APHA Solid Paint-Bred, ABRA and POAC. National Snaffle Bit Association dual approved classes are offered in the Pinto, Palomino and Appaloosa breed show, including solid classes.The NSBA classes allow exhibitors to gain points in both associations, as well as to compete for more prize money.

This year, the Mule & Donkey Congress Show will be held Nov. 3 – 5, in conjunction with the Color Breed Congress.

“We are excited to have the Mule & Donkey Congress once again,” Bilke said.

The Mule & Donkey Congress will consist of an array of classes ranging from Donkey Pleasure Driving to Mule Barrels. Exhibitors

will vie for high point and reserve high point buckles. Tioga Territory jackets will be awarded to first place winners of each class (with three or more entries) and medallions for first-tenth place. The youth high point overall winner between the Mule and Donkey division will receive a scholarship and the overall reserve youth winner will receive a Shorty’s Hat. Besides the horse competition, over 30 vendors will be in attendance at the CBC Marketplace selling everything from clothing to decorations to equipment for showing horses. This is a great time to do some shopping since the holidays are approaching.

Long Ear Division The Pinto Horse Association of America, Inc., is pleased to announce the new Long Ear division which will establish and maintain a system to manage the Mule and Donkey affiliate (MDA) known as the long ear division of the Pinto Association. This will include a miniature division.

The Association services will include recording and tracking Membership Data, Mule and Donkey Registration Records, Competition Approvals in addition to all records of Halter and Performance awards relating to each registered Mule or Donkey in the long ear division.

Mule and Donkey types that can be registered in the Long Ear division through the PtHA® include: Miniature Donkey, B Miniature Donkey, Small Standard Donkey, Standard Donkey, Large Standard Donkey, Mammoth Jackstock, Miniature Mule / Hinny, B Miniature Mule/ Hinny, Saddle Mule / Hinny and Draft Mule / Hinny.

Breeding and bloodline records are established using approved documents including outcross registration records, breeding certificates, Stallion ( Jack) annual breeding reports and mare exposure reports.

Individual Show and Performance records are posted in the Pinto Register of Merit data base allowing each registered Mule or Donkey advancement in pursuit of established awards and recognition. The Register of Merit program has provisions to record On the Trail hours and Open Show competition point records.

Class titles and Class regulation rules are in effect and are consistent with accepted equine competition guidelines.

The Pinto Association will furnish current rule book guidance to the long ear division participants. Pinto Affiliate rules that govern the long ear division will always be in effect and will resolve all questions.
