Presented below is the condensed, combining statement of activities for Pinnacle Presbyterian Church (Church), Pinnacle Presbyterian Church Foundation (Foundation), and Pinnacle Presbyterian Day School (Preschool) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022, and the related condensed, combined statement of financial position as of June 30, 2022. Also presented is comparative information for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021. This information is presented on the accrual basis of accounting and has been summarized from the annual financial statements reviewed by Baker Tilly US, LLP. The complete financial statements may be viewed in the Church office.
As we emerged from the pandemic during fiscal 2022, the Church was able to return to providing in-person services and programs, resulting in an increase in Regular Offerings & Contributions income of $446,981 from fiscal 2021 to 2022 and an increase in revenues over expenses (change in net assets) of $347,379. The Church's total expenses increased by $177,779, or about 6%, consistent with price and wage increases experienced in the general economy.
The Preschool also experienced a significant increase in Regular Offerings & Contributions in 2022 due to the award of a Child Care Stabilization Grant from the Arizona Department of Economic Security. Under this grant, the Preschool has been receiving funds to be used for reimbursement of salary and other operating costs for providing childcare services. The final grant payment will be received in June 2023. In addition, the Preschool recognized income of $84,303 in 2022 from the Employee Retention Tax Credit under the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act. These revenue increases were partially offset by increased expenses of $200,122 due to expanded class offerings as the pandemic eased.
Cash and investment balances remained strong at June 30, 2022, primarily due to the Session keeping close track of expenses and the lack of need to utilize cash reserves to cover operating expenses.
