Certificate in GP and Exercise Referral Introduction/Description This is an essential course for fitness professionals who are looking to work with low to moderate risk clients. Patient care has started to move beyond GP care to involve the support of professionals who possess other kinds of skills and knowledge. As a result, Exercise Referral Schemes have seen a dramatic increase over the last five years due to the support of the Government, Primary Care Trusts and local authorities. Course Content This is a 4 day theoretical course delivered over 2 weekends or 4 consecutive week days. The course covers: Ÿ How to develop an Exercise Referral Scheme inline with Government recommendations and guidelines Ÿ How to develop a physical activity programme Ÿ Improving health and well-being Ÿ Health and lifestyle screening Ÿ Exercise prescription Ÿ The aetiology and pathology of orthopaedic, cardiovascular, metabolic and Pulmonary diseases and obesity Ÿ Pharmacological management of the above conditions Assessment The assessment consists of a worksheet and theory paper that will be completed at the end of the course. You will also be provided with a case study that you will complete at home. The case study has been designed to test your understanding of the management of specific medical conditions and the associated exercise prescription. Accreditation A Pinnacle Health and Fitness Certificate in GP and Exercise Referral will be issued on completion of the course. Pre-requisites To attend this course you will need to hold a REPs recognised level 3 Certificate in Advanced Exercise Instruction or Personal Training.
