The Course Our course was established in 1887 making it the second oldest in Surrey. In the 1920s it was redesigned by James Braid, a Scotsman who won the Open Championship five times before becoming an equally successful golf course architect.

Among the impressive work on Braid’s resume is the remodelling of Carnoustie and the design of both the King’s Course and Queen’s Course at Gleneagles. Braid is also considered by some to have invented the dog-leg, which is perhaps why our 18th hole is shaped as it is! So you can see we share quite a pedigree.

Visitors should not be misled in any way by the par 68 on the scorecard.

The 18 holes meander through the picturesque tree-lined countryside to provide an interesting test of golf for even golf professionals. It may only say 5,272 yards on the scorecard (from the white tees), but it plays much longer. An accurate long game and a sharp short game will earn their reward.

There are some tricky par threes, ranging in length from 136 to 225 yards, and a range of par fours which are accessible only to the longest hitters. Among the features are tricky dog-legs and the tantalising 464yard par 4 15th which few can reach in two. The par five 18th with its 90 degree dog-leg provides a good opportunity to end the round on a high note. All holes benefit from excellent greens reckoned to be some of the best in the county.

Playing Categories Members at Redhill & Reigate need never be at a loss for playing partners or for games of either a competitive or social nature.

The men get to show their golfing prowess against other clubs in the Warren League (for the higher handicappers) or the Hilliard League (for players of 12 handicap or lower). Matches offer the chance to play some of the county’s other premier courses and are always very sociable and are invariably followed by a meal both home and away.

The ladies play in the Pearson Trophy, which is played in a group format over the winter months. Section winners progress to a knockout phase, with the winners going on to represent Surrey against the champions from Hertfordshire, Kent and Middlesex in a winner-takes-all final day.

Informal groups go out most days to enjoy a sociable round with maybe the odd pound riding on the result - new players are always welcome.

The club competitions are numerous and many carry prestigious silverware that has been played for since the end of the 19th century.

Among the oldest competitions are the Old Stagers, for men over 60, which dates back to 1897, the Spring Trophy (1898) and the Hull Trophy (1909).

In addition, there are well organised Junior, Senior Men and Ladies sections all of which offer both competitive and social golf throughout the year.

Many the staff at Merstham glass are long standing employees; we do not subcontract fitting work, like many of our competitors. We do use a few known self employed fitters to help our team during busy times, we also use two known builders to form bases and brickwork for conservatories and to assist when fitting lintels but they remain firmly under our control.

Membership Opportunities The club is a private members’ golf club and we currently have space for new full members. At present there is no waiting list to join and no entry fee. Five-day memberships are also available.

We are keen to showcase our wonderfully picturesque course and to encourage new people into our sport and for that reason we offer a greatly reduced rate of membership in the first year. Please check out our website, www.rrgc.net, for the latest offers. Normal membership rates apply thereafter.

In addition new junior members currently pay a rate which works out a little more than £1 a week in the first year with free social membership for parents.

The cost of full golf club membership for men up to the end of March 2012 equates to less than £19 per round if you only play once a week, even less if you play more. We believe this is excellent value, and compares very favourably with nearby clubs. Membership fees for ladies are even less.

Corporate memberships are offered to make them attractive to business people with busy work schedules. This allows play eight times a month at any time during the week (subject to tee-time being available) and after 12pm on weekends & Bank Holidays.

Visitors and Societies The club welcomes visitors and golfing societies any day of the week, subject to tee times being available.

There is no booking system as such, but we do keep track of when members are playing so we can advise on how busy the course is.

Saturdays and Sundays are our main club competition days, so tee times at weekends in particular are at a premium. Please call first to check tee availability.

Our dress code is similar to most clubs, with no jeans or T-shirts allowed on the course, tailored shorts worn with white socks are acceptable.

Smart casual attire is acceptable in the clubhouse.

The club expects all players using the course and the clubhouse to be acquainted with standard golfing etiquette.

As a popular destination for golf societies, we can offer a variety of packages to fit most needs, with the choice of playing 18 or 27 holes, and several meal options to keep any group of hungry golfers happy.

Choose any combination of a full English breakfast, a filling lunch such as Cumberland sausage and mash or lighter alternative such as homemade soup and sandwiches and round off your day in style with a two or three-course dinner.

Clarence Restaurant In the Clarence Restaurant you can be assured that the food is of excellent quality and offers outstanding value. Breakfasts are available on Saturdays and Sundays and at times on weekdays if we have an early booking for a golf society. Social Activities Redhill & Reigate prides itself on being a friendly club and as well as getting to play a fine and historic golf course as often as they choose, members enjoy an active social calendar. There are many activities staged throughout the year.

Jazz nights are held every other Thursday fronted by the Sussex Jazz Kings. These have proved to be very popular. In the winter months there is plenty to keep members occupied, with frequent quizzes, whist evenings and race nights.

One of the highlights of the year is the Captain’s Summer Party, with entertainment and members spilling out on the patio if the great British weather obliges and the night is balmy.

We have parties to celebrate Christmas and to welcome in the New Year and we also hold a carol service each December.

2012 promises to be a memorable year to belong to Redhill & Reigate Golf Club as that will see us mark our 125th anniversary with a series of special celebrations.

For satellite navigation purposes, our postcode is RH1 6LB. Directions 1. Leave the M25 at Junction 8 and follow the A217 to Reigate (Reigate Hill).

2. Continue straight into A25 (Castlefield Road).

3. Turn left into Bancroft Road (A217 towards Gatwick).

4. Turn left at the traffic lights into the A2044 Woodhatch Road (A2044) adjacent to Angel public house.

5. Turn left at the ‘mini roundabout’ into Pendleton Road.

6. The clubhouse is situated 400 yards on the left.

Public transport The nearest railway station is Earlswood, which is less than a mile, or a five-minute taxi-ride away. The better-served Redhill station is just 1.4 miles away and offers at least four train services an hour to London Victoria or London Bridge to the north and regular services in the opposite direction to Gatwick Airport and the South Coast.
