The Marina is a long established Care Home under new management since 2010. The home has recently undergone a total refurbishment and extension.

The Old Vicarage has been under new management since 2011 and has just completed a total refurbishment together with an 18 bed extension.

It is a small, comfortable home with 18 rooms, most of which have ensuite facilities. The home is registered to care for clients with nursing and residential needs from the age of 50 yrs.

We can now comfortably accommodate 47 residents many in en suite rooms and the home is registered to care for clients with nursing and residential needs from the age of 65.

Matron and her dedicated staff work together with the proprietors to deliver the best care which is continuously updated through training and development.

Our matron leads a team of dedicated nurses and care workers and demands the highest quality of care for all of our residents.

About Our Course Situated at the entrance to the beautiful Gower Peninsula, Clyne Golf Club’s course has breathtaking views in all directions.

This is a heathland course with plenty of gorse and bracken, plus some strategically placed trees, and its rolling fairways and firm greens are varied and challenging, with some tough holes ready to punish the wayward.

Designed by leading architects of the day, Messrs. H.S. Colt and Harries, our delightful course is situated in the United Kingdom’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is to the credit of Colt and Harries that the course has remained virtually unchanged to this day. Four hundred feet above sea level, it overlooks Swansea to the east, the

Bristol Channel and Mumbles to the south, the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons to the north, with the commanding heights of Gower’s Cefn Bryn to the west.

The course offers a challenging test of golf to all handicap levels at 6,432 yards, par 72 SSS 72 (White Tees), 5,943 yards, par 70 SSS 70 (Yellow Tees) and 5,354 yards, par 72 SSS 71 (Red Tees). Owing to the undulating ground there are many natural hazards together with a high number of bunkers.

The large greens are in excellent condition.

Our championship course consists of two separate loops of 9 holes - virtually a figure of 8 - resulting in no crossing and a minimum of congestion. The 1st and 10th tees and the 9th and 18th greens are conveniently situated in front of the Club House.

The Club’s History Clyne Golf Club was founded in 1921. The planning, design and layout of the course were entrusted to the legendary Harry Colt, arguably the finest golf course architect who ever lived.

We are justifiably proud of our connection to a man whose design and influence can also be seen at Muirfield, Sunningdale, Royal Lytham & St. Annes, Real Golf Pedrena (Seve’s course) and many other courses around the world.

He and his partners created courses at more than 300 clubs in 24 countries, and many of the clubs where he designed courses are regarded as leading golf venues throughout the world.

Indeed, Harry Colt might be described as the founder of golf course architecture in the British Isles, softening its lines, introducing curves and creating visual challenges to tease and intrigue the golfer. Above all, he was the first to appreciate how golf could be a delightful walk through beautiful vistas, something that can truly be appreciated at Clyne. Situated on the high ground of Clyne Common, our moorland course remains part of a dramatic and ever-changing landscape.

Our club and course have a long and rich history, from our first Professional Percy Alliss, who was among the finest players of his generation, through to his son Peter, who listed us in his book, “The 200 Best Courses in the British Isles”.

Take The Course Tour Hole 1 Y Twyn A gentle uphill par 4 to start. A brave drive favouring the right half of the fairway and avoiding the fairway bunker will allow an easier approach to a long green that slopes from back to front. Beware - making a par from the green side bunkers will be tricky.

Hole 2 Trig Point A short dogleg left par 4 with many options. A long and brave tee shot over the gorse on the left will lead to a straightforward pitch. A shorter tee shot to the wider section is far safer but will leave a longer approach.

A good birdie opportunity.

Hole 3 Clyne Wood The first of the par 5s and one of the signature holes.

A spectacular view from the tee is just one distraction on this elevated tee. A long tee shot down the right will bring the green into play for the second shot, but beware, there are 2 deep fairway bunkers. Favour the right half of the green with any approach and you will be left with a favourable uphill putt.

Hole 4 Keeper’s Cottage This slightly elevated green requires more club than normal.

A severe slope from back left to front right can catch out even the best of putters. A great little par 3.

Take The Course Tour continued Hole 5 Road Hole A sharp dogleg right on this par 4. A well placed drive up the right side of the fairway will leave a nice angle to attack this pin. The uphill approach means clubbing up often helps.

A flat green by Clyne’s standards often yields a birdie or par.

Hole 6 Penrice This par 4 may not look that tough but it has a low stroke index for a reason! A drive up the left side avoiding the fairway bunker will allow for the easiest approach. The green offers a severe slope from back to front and as a result being

long with the approach will challenge even the experienced putters and chippers. Staying below the hole will give an easier putt.

Hole 7 Ffordd Hir Lengthened to a Par 5 off of the White Tees, off the Yellows this is one of the strongest Par 4s on the course. A slight draw from the tee will help as the fairway has a tendency to kick the ball right when it lands. Forget the pin and go for the middle of the green with the approach to a well-bunkered green. Par is a good result.

Hole 8 Fern Fall The longest and most bunkered Par 3 at Clyne. This 195 yard hole from the back tee can play anything from a 7 iron to a 3 wood depending on the wind. The green holds many subtle borrows. Pick your line and trust it.

Hole 9 Gwelfor At 475 yards, this slight dogleg left par 4 does offer a stern test. Long hitters can take the risky line to the left of the marker post over the two fairway bunkers. The approach shot can be tricky as the fairway & green slopes severely away from you. Par is good on this tough hole.

Hole 10 Owl’s Lodge A drive down the left side of the Par 4 10th leaves the best angle into this elevated green, but beware of the water hazard. An extra club on this approach will give the required result. The green can cause problems as it slopes severely from back right to front left.

Hole 11 The Spire A conservative drive to the widest part of the fairway leaves a tough approach as it will often leave the ball above your feet.

A long drive to the narrowest part will give a better chance of going at the pin. As with the previous hole, the green is elevated, so be mindful of this.

Take The Course Tour continued Hole 12 Bant a Hi Not a long Par 3, but the 12th green offers one of the most difficult greens on the course. Any shot played from above the hole will be a good up-and-down or in 3-putt territory.

A Great hole.

Hole 14 The Kidney A drive taking on the left fairway bunker on this Par 5 may catch the large down slope and leave a significantly shorter approach. Favour the right half on approach to use the contours to your advantage and walk off with a birdie or par!

Hole 13 The Gulley Two fairway bunkers on the left side of this Par 4 wait for a stray drive. A shot up the right side will create an easier approach. A long but narrow green is well guarded by both bunkers and a natural gully which catches anything coming up short, so beware.

Hole 15 Kestrel Way Longer hitters have a chance of getting on this green on what is a short Par 4. With a severe slope from left to right and three bunkers on this fairway a shot up the left and you will be rewarded. This green has a slope running from left to right so a shot favouring the right half will leave an easier uphill putt. A good birdie opportunity.

Hole 16 Mumbles Head The wind plays a huge factor on this long, stroke index 6 Par 4 (Par 5 off of the back tee). Even off of the Yellow this straight hole can play like a genuine par 5 if it’s into the prevailing wind, and a drive and mid iron down wind. A small green that has slope from front to back. Take par and walk off.

Hole 17 Quarry An innocent looking hole, but looks can be deceiving.

Hitting this green is at a premium with run-off areas and bunkers lurking for stray shots. A very tough green with one word of advice. Don’t leave yourself above the hole if you want a good score.

Hole 18 Pen Y Dalar A good finishing Par 4. The fairway will kick the ball off to the right, so taking a line down the left is a priority. A longer drive brings the fairway bunker and the gorse bushes into play but leaves a good opportunity to attack the pin with the second shot.

Coaching Jonathan Clewett is our Head PGA Professional at Clyne Golf Club. He has been attached to the Club since 1989 and became the Head Professional in 1999. During this time he has created a successful coaching centre and retail outlet.

From absolute beginners to the most advanced PGA Professionals, Clewett’s coaching programme has something to suit everyone’s needs, covering any aspect of the game using the most advanced techniques and technology.

The TOMI Putting System is the latest in putter technology from Pure Motion Sports. The system measures stroke characteristics, which enables the coach to simply and effectively identify ‘Stroke Faults’.

The Explanar Training System The Explanar is a revolutionary new development in golf instruction designed by Luther Blacklock. It is a complete golf training system based around the fundamental principles of the swing plane and the biomechanics of the body, promoting the ideal movements required for the golf swing.

Practice Facilities Practice facilities at Clyne consist of an extensive practice area with three practice holes, six target greens, a putting green, a chipping green, outdoor nets and indoor nets with video recording equipment operated by the Professional.

There are well appointed modern Ladies’ and Men’s locker rooms. The Juniors also have their own locker room and lounge facilities with pool table and TV. Clyne has been awarded “Centre of Excellence” status by the Golf Foundation for its junior golf facilities and activities.

2013 Junior Boys and Girls Group Classes Do you have any friends, family or school friends interested in learning golf in a fun and enjoyable way? Starting in April

each year, classes will be held at Clyne on Saturday, Sunday, evenings and during school holidays. All equipment and facilities will be supplied.

Our Clubhouse and Restaurant Spectacular views of our moorland course and a friendly welcome await you at Clyne Golf Club’s Clubhouse.

Clyne is well served by excellent facilities that superbly complement our beautiful course. At the rear of the building is a Snooker Room with a full size snooker table and its own bar area with Sky TV available in both bars. The Juniors also have their own lounge area and a pool table.

There are Ladies’, Men’s and Junior changing areas as well as an indoor golf practice area. There is ample car parking at the front and rear of the Clubhouse.

Bar and Restaurant At our main bar and restaurant sip one of our fine ales or tuck into a plate of delicious food as you enjoy panoramic views or watch players on the 9th and 18th greens as well as the 10th tee.

These rooms can comfortably support functions for up to 120 people. A second Bar is also available and contains a full size snooker table.

Catering is routinely available from 11 am to 7 pm and by prior arrangement outside of these hours.

Our Clubhouse and Restaurant continued In June 2011, facilities at Clyne were enhanced by the addition of a new spike friendly coffee lounge with breathtaking views of the course and seating both inside and on the pleasant veranda.

Our new coffee lounge, open from dawn to dusk, is situated to the right of the main entrance to the Clubhouse and is easily accessible as a meeting place prior to setting out onto the course, a halfway house or for a quick caffeine fix prior to a shower.

It is proving equally popular as a comfortable alternative to our main bar areas outside of our main catering hours which are between 11 am and 6 pm daily during the winter months.

A range of Tschibo coffees, hot chocolate and tea is available and homemade cakes are often available.

Societies and Corporate Events Clyne Golf Club is a very friendly private members club which extends the warmest of welcomes to golf societies and corporate groups throughout the year. Choosing the right venue is essential not only in respect of the quality of the course, but the whole experience.

Open Golf Events Clyne Golf Club hosts several open events throughout the golfing year, including our ever popular Open Week.

Open competitions are a great way to play Clyne at a reduced green fee. All players with a valid handicap certificate are welcome. Please book early to avoid disappointment via the Pro Shop or Club manager on 01792 401989 or email manager@clynegolfclub.com

Clyne Golf Club Open Week Held annually in the first week of August, Clyne Golf Club’s Open Week usually runs for 9 days from the last Saturday in July.

The origins of Clyne Open Week date back to August 1936 when the Swansea Amateur Golfers’ Week was first held at Clyne and attracted players from all over England and Wales who competed for prizes to the value of £125, which would be about £20,000 in today’s money.

The event quickly took off and records show that in 1937 there were a thousand entries from nearly 400 competitors.

The following year even saw Donald Bradman’s 1938 Australian Touring Team being made honorary members and playing the course during the Bank Holiday weekend.

Unfortunately, the outbreak of WW2 brought about the event’s temporary demise. It was revived in 1970 as Clyne Open Week, and since then it has been a permanent fixture in the Clyne Golf Club and the South Wales golfing calendars.

Open Golf Events continued The premier competition of the week - the City and County of Swansea Cup (originally the Swansea Corporation Cup) was originally presented to the Club by the then Mayor of Swansea Albert Ball in 1936. The cup continues to be presented annually by his successors to the winner.

Each year there is a wide variety of competitions suitable for all categories of golfer - ranging from a Texas Scramble to 4 Ball Better Balls, Greensomes, Stablefords and Medals and

culminating in the prestigious City and County of Swansea Cup back tee gross medal. Total prize money for the week is expected to be in excess of £1,000 and entries are being taken now.

Other Open Golf Events All the following events are open to non-Clyne members and we welcome entries from any golfer with a valid and active handicap.

Clyne Golf Club Mixed Open (usually held in mid September) The competition format is Greensomes with a Shotgun Start.

Seniors’ Open Day (usually held in mid June) Although this is an individual stableford event, there are also team prizes for visiting clubs.

Clyne Golf Club Seniors’ Autumn Open (usually held in late September) This annual Open event is usually a 4BBB competition.

Clyne Ladies’ Open Day (usually held in late June) The format is 18 Hole Stableford Competition in teams of three, with the best two scores to count.

Social Events Clyne Golf Club doesn’t just want to be thought of as a place to come and enjoy an excellent round of golf.

Yes, we have a beautiful moorland course with breathtaking views, expert coaching and state-of-the-art practice facilities.

Membership Clyne Golf Club has a selection of Membership options providing the opportunity for you to become part of our historic club.

Subscription fees start from as little as £172 per year for any member over the age of 18. Clyne Golf Club maintains a staggered fee structure so that only when a member reaches the age of 30 do they pay the full adult rate. This is designed to encourage new members in younger age groups and makes membership at Clyne competitively priced compared with other courses in Swansea and Gower.

We also have memberships available for those who only wish to use our practice facilities - which are unrivalled in the area - or those only wishing to join during the winter months.

Clyne also offers country memberships for anyone who is already a member at another golf club and lives more than 30 miles away from the club.

For convenience you can choose to spread the cost of your subscriptions over the year with direct debit payments. At present there is no joining fee payable, although with membership buoyant, a waiting list may shortly be reintroduced.

The Subs are calculated on a pro-rata basis depending upon what time of year you join. Application forms can be obtained by contacting the office, and usually take about 1 week to process. Membership continued Membership Benefits The Colt Initiative Clyne Golf Club’s involvement in the Harry Colt Initiative means that members enjoy special access to some of his creations at a privileged rate, adding value to their membership in a unique way. A new addition for 2012 is Hendon Golf Club.

Members of participating clubs can play golf at a selection of other Harry Colt designed courses at greatly reduced rates.

Clyne’s Surrounding Area Why not enjoy a weekend or midweek break here at Clyne? Whether you are a golfer or not you will have access to all the facilities of the Golf Club, including the bar and dining room.

Guests can explore the beautiful seaside village of Mumbles which is situated 2 miles from Clyne Golf Club.

This offers excellent café bars and shopping. Why not visit Oystermouth Castle (dating back to the 12th century) or stroll along the promenade which overlooks Swansea and the Bristol Channel.

The beautiful Gower Peninsula starts at Mumbles and extends westwards. It is famous for its 30 miles of spectacular coastline including vast Rhossili Bay and tiny, secluded Brandy Cove. Gower was designated as the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1956.

Worms Head at Rhossili, the westernmost point of Gower, is reputed to be the 7th most photographed sunset in the world, and will make your visit a truly memorable one.

Directions The golf club is 10 minutes West of the City of Swansea.

Take the Mumbles Road (A4067) to Blackpill and turn right at the Traffic lights to South Gower. This junction is just after the Woodman Inn. You will now be on Mayals Road (B4436). After half a mile, take the first turning right by the traffic island and then bear left into Owls Lodge Lane. Follow this road and continue through a narrow lane into the club car park.
