At age five, Vancouver’s Queer Arts Festival is showing its cheeky side.

This year’s festival of art and performance, headquartered as always at the Roundhouse Community Centre, is challenging participants to indulge in Random Acts of Queerness.

And the artists are embracing the opportunity to display their whimsical sides — whether it’s highlighting the capricious ways queers present themselves in the world or investigating what constitutes an act of queerness.

It’s work that would put a smile on the face of late experimental artist John Cage, whose centenary birthday will be a festival keystone.

I have to meet (and by meet I mean star in a movie with) at least one pornstar coming to town this Pride. Colby Keller will be at Keefer Bar for Tube Steak, the launch of DIXX Magazine, and I do like my one-night stands to be cultured!

Of course I’m spending the day at the Pride parade! I’ll be filming a video for xtra.ca, so if you see me — I’ll be the one wearing very little cloth — oh, wait . . . Well, follow the blond and come give me, and the camera, some love!

Sunday night, a club kid has to make some tough choices.

Not just whether to call Molly before or after Tina, but which parties to meet them at!

I’m gonna go on a whim and say that Truckerdisco, featuring DJ HiFi Brown (Berlin, San Francisco) and local DJ Taffi Louis, will have the best music (disco isn’t dead, it’s nu!). Rapture Victory Gotham City is the best circuit party happening Pride Week, but Queer Bash: Hipster Vanity Vs Drag Queen Insanity doesn’t come around often, and Queer Bash is to parties what dress-up boxes are to childhood.

Roundhouse Performance Centre’s When the Sun Comes Out is billed as “Canada’s first lesbian opera,” and since I feel less guilty about all the debauchery of Pride when I cover at least one theatre event and one lesbian event, this is the perfect combination!

Now that I’ve got that out of my system, on to the debauchery. Judgment day is coming at The Pride Ball, and I fucking love playing god! I’m on the judging panel, and categories include High Fashion Eastvan, The Morning After, Yacht Club Couture and Bear of the Ball. I’m so excited I could just bury my face in some body-hair realness and scream!

The Rapture Heatwave party at the Westin Grand hotel is the perfect Pride Day event.

This is the party gym queens live for. So much pressure! I’m doing pushups and purging while I type. Never say I can’t multitask . . .

I’m dancing into Sunday at Gorg-O-Mish. Big Roger presents Play, with DJ Eddie Martinez from NYC and DJ Josh Karmin from Toronto.

There will also be some adult performance by Tate Ryder, just in case things between me and Keller don’t work out!

DO ask your friends and family to watch the parade. It’s the sweetest thing when they come out and support. They can bring the kids, too, as long as they’re not afraid of a little nipple or a seven-foot man in a dress.

DON’T stay in your comfort zone. Pride is about experimenting, and I don’t just mean getting double penetrated for the first time.
