People often see the end of your story, but I guarantee that the beginning or the middle required tenacity, determination, and perseverance. Most likely it required many tears, but continue to walk in purpose.
As a child, I watched my Grandfather and father operate as business owners. I was always intrigued by the freedom of being my own boss. My entrepreneurship thirst started when I was in the 3rd grade. My first job was a paper route delivery. In 6th grade, my sister and I were assigned to ride the special needs bus because the regular school buses were full that year.
During this time, we learned Service, Leadership, and Humility. You may ask, how did you learn this on a school bus?
I share this story because it was my first experience with purpose. I understood leadership, service, and humility at a very early age. My life as an entrepreneur would later be filled with these attributes on many levels. The Pink and Black Honors is about acknowledging those that have endured the trials and tribulations of entrepreneurship. We all have our own unique story of overcoming.

The bus drivers at that time did not have bus monitors. We voluntarily assisted the students on and off the bus every morning. SERVICE. We assigned seats and cleaned the bus for the driver daily, because we were her last stop. LEADERSHIP. It was very humbling to assist the students who needed special care. HUMILITY. We loved our job, and most importantly, we loved serving.

Tonight is not only about celebrating those titled “Honoree”, but recognizing all of the nominees, their families, friends and loved ones that have stood and supported the full journey.
