MANAGER'S NOTE

Dear Pine Tree Member:

Welcome back and we are looking forward to the upcoming season at Pine Tree Golf Club. Over the summer you should have received a calendar with all the golf and social events. We hope this assists you with planning and date saving. Soon we will be launching a new website and app, it is more user friendly with updated technology. It will be possible to reserve dinner reservations right from your phone! Additionally, we have the ability to TEXT important messages that are time sensitive such as closures and weather issues. Alyssa Jardine has been instrumental in administering these technological advances and she can help with getting you onboard.

Our first meal service in the Wilson Room & Patio begins November 1. Dinner will be served Wednesday (NEW dinner night), Friday and Sunday night. Unique theme dinners will occur on Saturday evenings. Lunch service open daily except Mondays. Please see inside this Pipeline edition for our special events.

Please pardon our appearance while we make some structural alternations for the front door/valet area. It has been mandated by the county’s building department for us to upgrade the front driveway to be fully handicap accessible. This will involve re-grading the driveway and eliminating the curb at the front door. Additionally, we must bring the valet’s sitting room to meet hurricane codes. These projects should begin in October and we will inform you of any changes to the arrival area of the club.

Many of the staff are returning to Pine Tree. We are excited to have Mike Mullen back at the front door. We wish Sous Chef Ian Hamlett the best on his new endeavors. Please congratulate Jonathan (Tippy) Tipton who has been promoted to Sous Chef.

It won’t be long before we are back full swing and enjoying the great golf and fabulous food. Until then, enjoy the Fall and see you soon at the Club.

Best regards,

GOLF

Dear Pine Tree Members,

As we embark on another remarkable year at Pine Tree Golf Club, celebrating our 62nd year as one of the country's truly fine golf clubs, we reflect on our rich history while building a talented and dedicated team to uphold our traditions that are uniquely Pine Tree. From the moment members and their invited guests arrive, they are met with a warm Pine Tree welcome, delivered by our friendly and professional staff.

Effective communication and attention to detail are hallmarks of our operation. Speaking of communication, we remind members that Pine Tree's culture of no tee times remains unchanged. However, it is in everyone's best interest to contact our longtime starter, Greg Schmitt, who in his 16th season at the club, possesses a wealth of experience in enhancing and ensuring an enjoyable round of golf for our members. A simple phone call, text, or an in-person visit to Greg is all that's required to notify him of your golf plans.

Another cornerstone of Pine Tree's culture is fast play. We are delighted to report that last year's average round was completed in just 3 hours and 43 minutes. We encourage members to be mindful of their pace of play and to reach out to the starter for assistance in determining the best timing for their round based on their desired pace.

As many members prepare to return the club, they will notice some new faces on the golf staff. We extend our congratulations to Adam Schafer, who has accepted the position of Head Golf Professional at Panther National. In addition, we are excited to welcome Travis Johnson to our team, joining us from Kinloch in Richmond, Virginia. Returning to our team this year are Jon Spicci and Taylor Morgan, and Greg Howlett who are eager to continue their contributions to the golf experience. We are also pleased to have Brian Creghan, Teaching Professional, and David Marad back with us. Our golf professional staff will be complemented by an exceptional team of bag room staff and caddies from some of the country's top clubs.

I am thrilled about the upcoming golf schedule at Pine Tree Golf Club and look forward to your frequent visits. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do to enhance your experience while at the club.

Warm regards,

Gentlemen’s Tournaments

The Men's Tuesday Game is all set to kick off the year on November 7th. The Founder's Cup, a men's exclusive better ball of partner's competition, will culminate with the Men's Golf Night Dinner, featuring a guest of honor, on Friday, November 10th.

In its 3rd year, The Slammer, our Fall Invitational taking place on November 16th & 17th, will feature a better ball partners format that will be flighted after Round 1 The Slammer is our way of paying homage to the legendary Sam Snead Following The Slammer, we extend a warm invitation to members and professionals from around the globe to compete December 14th in the 3rd annual "50" Member-Pro Tournament. "The 50" celebrates the fifty major victories achieved by Pine Tree members, a record that stands unmatched in any other club.

As we embrace the New Year with resolutions, we also bring forth an outstanding array of events The Scotty (formerly known as ABCD) will take place on Saturday, January 6th. February will be an exciting month as we honor our club's champions with two signature events. First up is the Pine Tree Cup Member-Member on February 2nd & 3rd. The Club Championship competitions will follow, starting with Seniors, Super Seniors, and Legends competing from the 15th-18th, and the Men's Club Championship will challenge our course from the 23rd – 25th of February.

Don't forget to mark your calendars and invite your friends for the Men's Silver Scott One-Day Member Guest on February 20th, a day when members can introduce a guest to experience the magic of a Tuesday at Pine Tree with golf preceded by lunch and then followed by Stag Night.

Our pièce de résistance at Pine Tree, the Gentlemen's Invitational, is slated for March 13th to 15th. Be on the lookout in early December for the Invitation as the event will sell out with a long wait list. Following this, we pay homage to Charlie Colebrooks, Pine Tree's inaugural starter, with the Member-Staff Invitational known as "The Charlie" on April 3rd. Wrapping up our Member-Guest events for the year, the Samuel J. Snead Member-Guest will unfold on April 9th.

Our annual club competitions will conclude with the 4th annual Lockdown on Friday, April 19th. This unique event pits the North side of the locker room against the South side in a spirited team match play competition, followed by a delightful dinner.

Golf Course Update

It was another very busy summer making many improvements to your course. The journey wasn't without its challenges, though. Absolute sweltering heat in June, July and August made working or playing golf nearly unbearable.Significant rainfall also slowed progress but we were able to persevere and complete many significant projects throughout the course.

Phase 2 of our "Dick Wilson" restoration process of fairway bunkers was completed under the direction of our architect, Ron Forse Holes 3, 4, 5 and the left side of 18 were completed in June and July and are now open for play We have received many favorable comments on their look and playability to date Phase 3 planned for next year will include bunkers on holes 10, 12, 14, 15 and 16 which will complete the bunker restoration process

Some significant tee work was also completed Our perpetually shade stricken tees on holes 4 and 15 were completely resurfaced On # 4 we used a very popular Zoysia grass called Trinity that is looking and playing quite well On #15 we planted a dwarf Celebration grass not even available to the industry yet We have been fortunate to have a working relationship with Mississippi State University for a couple of years now helping them evaluate some new varietals of Celebration. This one looks very exciting with many areas of future use here at Pine Tree. Both tees have the potential to be mowed very low mimicking the Tifeagle tees Pine Tree once enjoyed more than a decade ago.

We've also spent quite a bit of time and effort to improve the par 3 tees on the course that have become crowned over the years due to constant use in the middles and divot filling. These tees unlike #13 are quite narrow that can cause this crowning. A procedure called laser topdressing is a process of applying sand in the low areas and gradually raising them until level. This was a two part process this summer and will reevaluate them each year until such time as they can be widened and resurfaced We also spent significant time and effort to improve both of our highly used practice tees Aggressive cultural processes such aerification, vertical mowing, heavy sand leveling topdressings, reshaping, keen attention to nutrition and care given to managing the daily use of the hitting areas leading up to the busy season ahead

A significant landscape project that we have been talking about on hole 13 was completed as well The overgrown perimeter landscape encroaching on the 13th tee was removed opening up our views of not only the 13th but 14th hole as well Along the way, guided by our landscape architect Buzz Jaskella, we found some specimen Oak trees lost in the older landscape. Once the landscaping was removed, those magnificent trees were properly trimmed giving the whole area an open and classy look. We have received overwhelming positive feedback on this project.

The last of four cultural procedures on our greens is a Dryject aerification on September 27th. We are confident all of this important greens work will enhance our root systems and plant health setting the stage for a start to a memorable golfing season. Many other season opening details are already in motion or planned in the coming weeks to welcome you all back for a legendary experience.
