Jamie Kelley was stationed at Fort Bragg for more than 17 years, and Joseph Stivers was there for more than 20. But the couple didn’t meet on post. Set up by a friend, they connected by telephone while Joe was traveling for work. The two exchanged calls for a week before Joe returned home and they went on their first date at Aberdeen’s Workshop Tavern.
Fast forward to Oct. 12, 2024. The Stivers married at Village Pine Venue in front of 200 guests. “We loved the Charleston look with all the brick and the butterfly garden,” says Jamie.
Genuine Hospitality Catering & Events magicked up the meal, and the Bakehouse crafted the cake. But before the food, the party and even before the ceremony, the Stivers shared a special moment ahead of their “first look.”
“Before we saw each other, we held hands through the arch and prayed together. It was so special and just started everything right. I highly recommend just having a moment together,” Jamie says. “The day goes by so fast.”

the night before deserves a
I f weddings were movies, the rehearsal dinner would be the quirky, heart-warming indie short that everyone in the theater might just love more than the blockbuster that follows. And yet, somehow, it rarely gets its own red-carpet moment.
Let’s set the scene: You’ve survived seating charts, debates over napkin colors and your third attempt at a guest list that finally fits. You’re tired. But then comes a chance to turn the rehearsal dinner into something that feels personal, intimate, and even a little magical without the pressure of hundreds of smiling faces watching your every move.
Here’s how to tap into that potential and make the night before your big day feel like its own kind of celebration.
The beauty of a rehearsal dinner is that a smaller guest list means a smaller investment. Those charming cocktail stations you pinned at 2 a.m., the artisanal salt you’re obsessed with, even that soufflé your aunt swears she can master — this is your chance to sprinkle in the touches you love, even if you had to trim those ideas from the wedding reception itself.

“The rehearsal dinner crowd is invested in you and your story,” says Talia Hair, owner of event planning business Four 26 Events. “Bring in the things that represent you, details that those closest to you will really appreciate.”
The rehearsal isn’t just a chance to tell everyone where to stand. It’s a chance to really connect with guests who you may not get to spend much time with on your whirlwind wedding day. The guest list is your inner circle. Parents who have been there every step of the way, childhood friends who remember your awkward phases, siblings who know all your best (and worst) stories. Everyone’s relaxed, people actually know each other, and there’s space to connect, laugh, and even get a little sentimental.
At the wedding reception, toasts can feel like delivering the State of the Union to a crowd of strangers. But in front of a smaller rehearsal

dinner group, it doesn’t need to be the national address. Let the heartfelt (and hilarious) toasts happen here. It’s less pressure, more laughs, and lots of new memories will be made.
Consider adding a photographer and/or videographer to your rehearsal dinner, because those slices of laughter, tears, and clinking glasses will be just as precious as any wedding shot.
“You’ll want photos of the people who are your people,” Hair says. “The smaller setting means genuine reactions and spontaneous moments that are priceless.”
1. Be the Guest of Honor, Not the Organizer. Delegate. Hire a planner. Make sure the logistics are handled so you can enjoy every bite and every laugh.
2. This Isn’t a Mini Wedding. Think of it as a lively dinner party with flair rather than a sanctioned
event. You don’t need a theme that matches your reception to the letter. Choose complementary elements and let the vibe be relaxed.
3. Get the Rehearsal Done First.
Yes, it’s called “rehearsal dinner,” but the rehearsal should happen before anyone orders a drink. Get it out of the way so the mood stays joyful and uninterrupted. Once the toasts start, don’t pause the fun for logistics.
4. Slow Down and Be Present.
This is the last big dinner before “fiancé” becomes “spouse” after midnight’s strike. Don’t spend it worried about tomorrow’s timeline or checking texts. Claim this time as sacred.
Raise a glass to rehearsal dinners that feel like warm hugs instead of rushed obligations and to intimate moments that are unforgettable. After all, the next time you’re all together you’ll be married. Isn’t that worth celebrating twice?

From relaxed meadow-style bouquets to bold statement installations
Flowers set the tone for a wedding. They can reflect your personality as a couple and tie every element of your day together, from the ceremony aisle to the reception tables. With styles evolving year after year, couples planning 2026 weddings have a fresh palette of colors, textures and blooms to explore.
Many couples find all the options for wedding flowers to be overwhelming. Upcoming trends can be a helpful way to provide inspiration and a framework to spark ideas. Think of them as a springboard, guiding you toward choices that feel modern while still staying true to your own style and preferences.
So, what’s in store for 2026? Expect a mix of bold creativity, timeless romance and eco-conscious choices. Here are some of the floral trends Hollyfield Design predicts will bloom next year.
Color palettes used at local weddings continue to expand, offering couples a chance to be bolder, more creative and personal in their choices.
• Earthy Neutrals With a Twist: Beiges, warm taupes, and creamy whites continue to reign, but 2026 sees them paired with
unexpected accents like burnt caramel, sage, and soft terracotta. This color scheme is perfect for couples wanting understated elegance with a modern edge.
• Vibrant Jewel Tones: Think deep emerald greens, sapphire blues and rich magentas. Jewel tones are set to make receptions feel lush and opulent, especially in autumn and winter weddings.
• Pastel Revival: Dreamy lilac, blush pink and powder blue are returning, but styled in looser, more natural arrangements for a fresh and whimsical feel.
• Citrus Brights: For summer 2026, zesty shades of lemon, mandarin and coral will bring a burst of joy. These colours pop beautifully in bouquets and make table arrangements feel alive with energy.
From prioritizing seasonal and locally sourced blooms to opting for foam-free mechanics and repurposing arrangements throughout the day, couples are also making sustainable decisions that reduce waste while still allowing for beautiful, impactful designs. The result is florals

that not only look good, but feel good too, reflecting a shared desire to celebrate with intention.
It’s not just about the flowers themselves, but how they’re arranged. In 2026, we’ll see a fascinating mix that ranges from loose and romantic displays to clean, sculptural minimalism. Here’s what to expect:
• Wild & Whimsical Arrangements: Meadow-inspired florals are still going strong. Loose, organic bouquets with trailing greenery and unexpected textures like grasses and pods create a just-picked-from-the-garden vibe.
• Structured Minimalism: On the opposite end, modern couples are embracing clean, sculptural florals. Think single-variety arrangements, like a vase filled with orchids or calla lilies, making a bold, contemporary statement.
• Oversized Installations: Arches, hanging meadows, and floral chandeliers aren’t going anywhere. In 2026, expect even more dramatic ceremony backdrops and ceiling installations that transform venues into immersive floral worlds.
If you’re planning a wedding in 2026, Hollyfield Design can help incorporate the very best of the upcoming trends in a way that still feels like you. Call Hollyfield Design at 910.692.7243 to schedule a consultation, or visit www.hollyfieldinc.com for inspiration and to submit a request.

When Willi Martin was a kid, he visited Pinehurst to watch the U.S. Open. Decades later, on Nov. 9, 2024, Willi married his bride, Kelly Moss, on the first tee box of Pinehurst Resort’s legendary No. 2 golf course. “We wanted the natural beauty of the course to be the backdrop to our ceremony,” Kelly says.
Next came the reception in the Outlook Ballroom. The resort cooked up a spread of North Carolina favorites, including a whole hog of pulled pork barbecue. For a late-night snack, guests enjoyed hot dogs and french fries in honor of Willi’s late grandfather who owned a Wiener Works in Fayetteville. Willi’s parents now run the restaurant.
After the last hot dog was eaten, the newlyweds ended their reception in a quiet way. “One of our favorite memories of the night was our ‘last dance’ when all our guests left,” Kelly says. “It allowed us to reflect on all the love we felt from our guests and really celebrate as a couple the amazing night we had!”

Javin Bradley’s best friend was dating Miranda Miller’s best friend. That’s how Javin and Miranda met and started dating. The best friends tied the knot, and Miranda and Javin would soon follow suit. The future Mrs. Bradley suspected that Javin would propose in Boone, one of their favorite places to visit. But Javin switched up the plans to try to keep his bride on her toes.
“While we were in Wilmington, we went to the beautiful Airlie Gardens where he proposed to me in front of a huge oak tree,” Miranda says. “It was such a sweet moment, and Wilmington will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
One year after their engagement, the couple exchanged vows on Nov. 23, 2024, in Pinehurst’s Fair Barn. After saying, “I do,” Miranda changed into a reception dress altered from her mom’s wedding dress. Miranda’s grandmother turned leftover fabric into the tablecloth for the Bradleys’ sweetheart table. “I look back on my wedding day with so much joy and admiration,” Miranda says.

From dramatic wooden trusses to modern amenities, this historic Pinehurst space redefines what a barn wedding can be.
Rustic weddings have come a long way from mason jars and hay bales. Nowhere is that evolution more evident than at the Pinehurst Fair Barn. Couples looking for charm and sophistication will fall in love with the blend of historic character, dramatic architecture and modern amenities in a setting that feels both grounded and refined.
Built in 1917, the Fair Barn originally served as an exhibition hall for the Sandhills Fair and is now recognized as the oldest surviving fair exhibition building in North Carolina. Located within the historic Pinehurst Harness Track, the barn carries more than a century of stories that quietly enrich every celebration hosted there. Thoughtfully restored in the early 2000s, the Fair Barn stands as an example of how historic spaces can be reborn with fresh purpose.
Soaring two-and-a-half story ceilings, dramatic wooden scissor trusses, and an open, light-filled interior create a sense of grandeur rarely found in traditional barn venues.
Natural light filters through the space, highlighting the warm tones of the wood and creating a stunning backdrop for ceremonies, receptions and dance floors alike. The architecture is visually striking enough to stand on its own, yet neutral and open enough to serve as a blank canvas for any wedding style. Whether you opt for string lights suspended from the soaring beams, lush floral installations or flowing linens, the space adapts beautifully.
While the Fair Barn embraces its historic roots, it’s fully equipped

for today’s events. Couples benefit from high-speed wireless internet, recently renovated dressing rooms and bathrooms, and a commercial kitchen that caterers love. In-house event staff can assist with layout planning and logistics, ensuring that every detail flows smoothly from ceremony setup to last dance.
With approximately 10,000 square feet of flexible event space, the Fair Barn can accommodate weddings both large and intimate, hosting up to 500 guests. Its adaptable layout makes it ideal for hosting ceremonies, cocktail hours, receptions, or even rehearsal dinners.
Couples are also free to bring in vendors of their choice, allowing them to curate a wedding team that reflects their personal taste, budget, and vision. Those seeking a wedding venue that’s equal parts history and high style should consider the Fair Barn, where rustic chic has been beautifully redefined.
For booking inquiries or tours of the venue by appointment at 200 Beulah Hill Road S., Pinehurst, call 910.295.0166. For information and photo galleries, visit: www.vopnc.org/our-government/departments/fair-barn. sponsored by the fair barn

At Shiloh Court Bridal, every bride’s individuality is celebrated and every silhouette is designed to empower. The perfect wedding dress isn’t dictated by trends or “rules.” It’s only about how you want to feel as you step into your next chapter.
A wedding dress silhouette is the architectural foundation of your gown. It refers to the shape it creates as it drapes over your body. It sets the tone, influences your movement and posture, and determines how you’ll pose and celebrate on your wedding day. Understanding silhouettes helps you communicate your vision and discover new possibilities as you try on gowns.
Five Classic Silhouettes:
• A-Line: Universally beloved, the A-line silhouette features a fitted bodice and a skirt that flares gently from the waist to create a soft
“A” shape. It is refined, easy to move in, and adapts beautifully to a range of venues and personal styles.
• Ballgown: For those who dream in drama, the ballgown offers a fitted bodice and a voluminous skirt. Think twirling, sweeping entrances, and a touch of fairy tale magic. Modern ballgowns balance grandeur with wearability, making them a favorite for statement-making ceremonies.
• Fit and Flare: This silhouette hugs the bust, waist, and hips, then flares at the thigh. It celebrates curves with a bit more ease of movement than the mermaid. Many brides find it a versatile choice when they want both mobility and contour.
• Mermaid: The mermaid silhouette is all about bold glamour. It fits through the bodice and hips, then flares dramatically at the knee (or just below it) to create a sculpted, eye-catching shape. This style is perfect for brides who want to showcase their figure and make a memorable entrance.

• Sheath/Column: Minimalist and modern, the sheath (or column) silhouette falls straight from the shoulders to the hem and skims the body without clinging. It is ideal for those who love clean lines and sophistication.
The non-traditional or fashion-forward bride may consider high-low hems, tea-length, jumpsuits, pantsuits, minis or midis. These options offer fresh takes on bridal style and are especially popular for summer or outdoor weddings.
The silhouette of the dress is just the beginning. The fabric, neckline, and embellishments you choose will transform the mood and overall feel of your gown.
• Flowy fabrics like chiffon and tulle work beautifully for airy A-line and sheath gowns.
• Structured materials like satin and mikado add drama and definition to mermaid and ballgown silhouettes.
• Necklines such as sweetheart, square, or off-the-shoulder create very different moods within the same silhouette.
Do not rule out a silhouette based on photos alone. Try different combinations and allow yourself to be surprised by what feels right.

• How do you want to feel? Romantic, modern, dramatic, relaxed?
• What will your day look like? Will you be dancing, sitting for a long dinner, or celebrating outdoors?
• What’s your venue and season? North Carolina summers call for breathability and ease of movement.
• What support do you need? Consider the structure and physical flexibility you’ll want for a full day of celebration.
• Sit, walk, and dance in every dress you try.
• Ask about alterations and support options tailored to your needs.
• Begin shopping early. Alterations can take two to three months.
Shiloh Court Bridal’s expert stylists will guide you through every fitting and fabric decision, promising every bride the right structure and support regardless of silhouette or size. Discover that “yes to the dress” feeling and feel supported through every step of the journey.

Becky Mac Brown and Richard Chatham knew each other for more than 30 years before tying the knot at Old Bethesda Church, in Aberdeen, on March 22, 2025. “I’ve been a member of Bethesda since I was a child, and my mom’s family has been involved with Bethesda since its mid19th century beginnings,” Becky says. Her great-grandparents and dad are buried in the cemetery. “I always knew that was where I wanted to get married.”
The newlyweds celebrated their nuptials one town over, in the Fair Barn, in Pinehurst. “I’m not one for deliberate themes,” Becky says. “I just chose my favorite things, and it all came together: family, friends, flowers and history.”
The venue was decorated in white and her go-to neutral, navy. John G’s Barbecue filled blue-and-white plates that Becky spent months collecting from eBay, thrift stores and the like. A family friend made their wedding cake. “My only regret is that so many of the people I love were in the same place at the same time and I didn’t get nearly enough time to visit with everyone,” Becky says.

James Noble knew his then girlfriend, Jessica Ammons, wanted an intimate proposal.
“He proposed in our cozy apartment in front of the tree as we were exchanging gifts on Christmas night, just the two of us,” Jessica says. “It was absolutely perfect.”
For their wedding venue, the future Mr. and Mrs. Noble chose The Village Arboretum.
“It was very important for us to get married in Pinehurst,” says Jessica. “We love living here and wanted all our family and friends to be able to experience our little hallmark town.”
The Nobles got married on Apr. 5, 2025. They accentuated the season with a spring garden theme, incorporating loads of florals and pops of pink and green. Jessica’s dad even built a planter box that served as the couple’s seating chart. Bubbly & Bright Event Design Co. filled the box with fresh blooms, and Jessica designed escort cards on wildflower seed paper that guests could take home and plant. The couple also paid tribute to Pinehurst, gifting hats with embroidery that read, “Noble Golf Links — EST 2025.”

Over three decades and 7,500 weddings, Kirk Tours & Limousine has turned wedding transportation into a full-blown love language.
I
f wedding transportation were a person, Kirk Tours & Limousine would be the friend with the detailed itinerary who shows up early, knows everyone’s name, has chilled bottled water and mints, and is, of course, dressed in formal attire. This Pinehurst-based company, entering its 36th year, is owned by longtime locals who do their job with polish, personality and heart — earning a reputation they can be proud of when they run into clients on the golf course or in the grocery store.
“Our experience is unmatched,” says owner Marva Kirk, who estimates they’ve handled 7,500 weddings throughout the Pines and surrounding areas. “We’re on a first-name basis with everyone in town.”
Close relationships with local businesses and vendors matter, especially in a destination wedding town like Pinehurst where guests are often navigating new territory. Kirk’s chauffeurs know the fastest way to every venue, but their service doesn’t take shortcuts. That extends to every mode of transport they offer, from antique cars to horse-drawn carriages, golf carts, stretch limos and even an open-air trolley.
“I take pride in treating our clients like family,” Marva says. “I feel honored to introduce our clients to the place that my family calls home.”
Pinehurst’s rise as a wedding destination over the past 15 years has mirrored Kirk’s evolution — from local tours to full-scale wedding transportation, from bride and groom getaway cars to motor coaches for up to 150 guests.
• Consider who needs a ride. You’ll typically want to provide transportation for the bride, the groom, the wedding party, immediate family and grandparents. Make a list of who you think may also need to be driven to the venue or elsewhere.
• Ask about out-of-the-box ideas. Kirk recommends a

getaway car for a “grand exit” photo op directly following the ceremony. You might just be circling the block, but it’ll give you a chance to get all your guests together for a daytime send-off photo before the reception, when goodbyes are more spontaneous.
• Think about timing. Departures from the reception should begin as soon as the first guest needs to leave, whether that’s parents with young children or your great-grandparents. Play it safe by offering a shuttle starting an hour after dinner.
• Plan for the before and after parties. Group transportation makes spa sessions, hair and makeup appointments or bachelor or bachelorette celebrations more fun. Late at night, you’ll want to make sure guests arrive back to their hotel safely, especially in small areas like Pinehurst where ride-share service isn’t always available.
• Getting to the destination. Offer options for airport shuttles and private services for your guests, because peace of mind is part of the package.
• Book early. In this market, wedding season is from April to October, so plan ahead accordingly.
For starters, the company places a real human in charge, on site, all night long.
“We have a manager on property for the entire event,” Marva says. “We’re there to answer any questions or attend to lastminute needs, and we’re there until the end of the night so no one gets left behind.” It all comes down to preparation, which is practically a sport at Kirk Tours & Limousine. Guests are greeted with mints and water, itineraries are handled discreetly and every detail is intentional, right down to bows or balloons that match the wedding colors. Monogrammed drinking glasses or other unique personalization can be added for couples who want to add an extra layer of wow.
“We always say we’re never ready until every tire is shined,” Marva says. “We’re your first-class service. If you want it done right, you want it taken care of correctly and you want it to be a memory, you want us to do it.” And once you’re in? You’re in for life. “We still get life updates from our brides and grooms, years later,” she says. “You become family.”

Places have played a big role in Brandt Davis and Garrett Lance’s relationship. The couple met in Washington, DC. For three years, they dated long distance, traveling between DC, Philadelphia and New York. “We became Amtrak loyalists,” Brandt says. When the time came, the proposal took place in the Midwest, in Garrett’s hometown of Geneva, Illinois. Brandt popped the question at Christmastime while the two were out shopping and grabbing coffee. For the wedding itself, the husbands-to-be landed on Brandt’s hometown of Pinehurst. His parents hosted the welcome party in their backyard. The couple stayed outdoors for their Episcopalian ceremony, exchanging “I dos” near the fountain, on the lawn of the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities on Apr. 26, 2025. Inspired by the natural beauty of the venue, the color scheme was green and blue. As a nod to all their collected places, Brandt and Garrett took their guests on a journey. “Instead of table numbers, we ordered retro-style postcards from cities we’ve lived in,” Brandt says.

It’s a classic story. Born and raised in Moore County, Yathelis Ayala-Gonzalez and Jesse Gutierrez met at Pinecrest High School when they were searching for prom dates. Mutual friends introduced them and it was a match. Seven years later — to the day — the high school sweethearts married on June 7, 2025.
Following a surprise proposal and a spread laid out by Pinehurst Picnic Co., the couple selected Soirée on South for their wedding venue. They liked the intimacy of the space for their 60 guests to enjoy their ceremony and reception. Inspiration for the timeless event came from Pinterest and magazines like this one. The color scheme of the day was dusty blue, black and white, accented by a mix of floral pastels.
“There was a five-minute thunderstorm about an hour before the wedding, and we thought it was going to be ruined,” Yathelis and Jesse say, “but the sun came out, and the sky cleared up like nothing ever happened.”

A veteran-founded distillery offers couples a wedding venue rich in meaning, craftsmanship and celebration.
Brad Halling American Whiskey Ko., BHAWK for short, is a distillery, cocktail bar, restaurant and event venue in Southern Pines — a destination rooted in meaning, craftsmanship and gratitude. Designed as more than a traditional distillery, BHAWK offers an immersive setting where history, service and celebration intersect, making it a distinctive venue for weddings and milestone events.
Every element of BHAWK tells a story, from the whiskey barrels to the thoughtfully designed event spaces. The distillery was founded by Brad and Jess Halling, and their combined 49 years of service in the U.S. Army form the foundation of the brand’s mission. Brad Halling, a U.S. Army veteran, served with distinction during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, later depicted in the film “Black Hawk Down.” Surviving that battle shaped his lifelong commitment to honoring those who serve and the value of gratitude. The name BHAWK pays tribute to the men of that battle and reflects the founders’ enduring respect for service and sacrifice.
Jess Halling served more than 29 years in the U.S. Army, beginning her career in 1991 and retiring as a Colonel in 2020. Her final assignment as the Staff Judge Advocate for Joint Special Operations Command at Fort
Bragg involved advising Special Operations units. Together, Brad and Jess envisioned a space that would celebrate community, gratitude and shared legacy — values that now define BHAWK.
In early 2020, the Hallings purchased the property at 175 Yadkin Road and transformed it into a one-of-a-kind distillery venue that blends refined design with meaningful storytelling. Today, BHAWK offers a variety of versatile event spaces, individually or in tandem, that are ideal for weddings, rehearsal dinners, brunches and celebrations both large and small.
• The Sergeant Major McKinney Lounge & Terrace features elegant leather seating, a private bar, artwork honoring the Special Forces community and an outdoor patio.
• The Predmore Room & West Patio accommodates seated dinners or wedding receptions and includes an adjacent patio for added flexibility.
• The Gratitude Room serves as the heart of the distillery — a living museum that evolves with each new whiskey release and reflects the story behind every batch.
• The Nelms Rickhouse and production plant provide industrial, multi-use spaces surrounded by stacked whiskey barrels and distillery equipment, offering dramatic and distinctive backdrops for wedding ceremonies and receptions.

Simple, preventative dermatology is the smart way to avoid last-minute surprises that could steal the spotlight
Wedding prep can turn even the most low-maintenance bride into a skincare maximalist who’s willing to try every new product recommended by TikTok — all at the same time. Your skin did not RSVP to that kind of experiment, and the only likely results are irritation, breakouts, and a few choice words in the mirror.
When it comes to skincare, Addison Ritchie believes less is more, despite the fact that your favorite influencer swears by a nightly 50-step routine. This local skin specialist also doesn’t mind telling you that trending products like beef tallow won’t solve everyone’s problems.
“More is not always better and more is not always conducive to consistency,” she says. “It’s also important to know that products are never one-size-fits-all. What works for your best friend might do nothing for you.”
Ritchie is passionate about educating her patients at Pinehurst Dermatology & Mohs Surgery Center on preventative, affordable care that can help prevent skin emergencies, like a patch of cystic acne that erupts days before walking down the aisle. But because she’s also worked with enough brides to know that issues always seem to pop up when you’re trying to cut down your guest list, she’s compiled a short list of advice.
Dermatologist’s Short List for
• Start early (seriously). Acne control, Botox, oil management, hair removal and tanning all work best when started months before the wedding — not weeks — and under the care of a board-certified professional.
• Skip the sun damage. Everyone wants to be tan, but outdoor tanning (and, of course, tanning beds) are a no-go. Spray tans are generally safe. Even safer? Bronzing lotions that build a glow over time. Just be sure to test them both well in advance, in case you have an adverse reaction or end up a shade too close to citrus.
• Think beyond your face. Body acne is a common problem that’s often ignored until you’re about to pull on a strapless dress. It can be treated with a mix of prescriptions, antibacterial body washes and hypochlorous acid sprays.
• Time hair removal carefully. Waxing too close to the wedding can cause burns, irritation or hyperpigmentation, especially on the upper lip.
• Choose glow without gamble. Gentle glow peels or HydraFacials a couple of weeks before the wedding can boost radiance and hydration without major downtime.
• Avoid high-risk treatments close to the date. Skip intense peels, microneedling, lasers and fillers.
• Have a calm-the-chaos plan. In true crunch time, dermatologists can use targeted, event-specific treatments like steroid injections or even a quick round of doxycycline to reduce inflamed breakouts — but these are strategic, not everyday fixes.
Putting in the time to prep your skin correctly means it’s easier to achieve a natural, photo-ready finish when you need it. Your makeup artist will thank you.
Ritchie’s passion for skincare began early, shaped by a
childhood spent as the mostly willing test subject for her mother’s esthetician services. A certified nurse practitioner, she’s been working in healthcare since 2009 and dermatology since 2017. She specializes in managing a broad variety of complex conditions as well as aesthetic treatments like Botox, chemical peels and microneedling, and likes writing compound prescriptions to make sure her patients get the exact ingredients they need.
For her, dermatology is “innate, something that I grew up in and knew as second nature,” she says. “Plus, I’ve experienced many of the things that I treat every day. I was the bride with acne. I’ve had melanoma. I have a personal connection to dermatology in many ways and relate to my clients more than they know.”
Her experience is unique among providers at Pinehurst Dermatology, a local leader in Mohs and other types of dermatological surgeries. Along with adding a perspective on education, preventative maintenance and esthetics, Ritche has also expanded the product line; notably, bringing in Nutrafol to combat hair loss. Those in search of medical-grade skincare or a wide range of injectables can be referred to Pinehurst Dermatology’s sister clinic, The Laster Institute of Pinehurst.
“Not many people actually go to the dermatologist until there’s something wrong,” Ritchie says, “but there’s plenty of ways to be proactive about your skincare and make sure everything’s not a rush to a surgery or high-risk medication.”
Don’t gamble with your skin; play the long game with professionals who’ll help make sure it performs beautifully, even when you’re not in the spotlight.
For information or to schedule an appointment, visit pinehurstdermatology.com or call 910.295.5567. The office is located at 5 Regional Circle, Suite B, Pinehurst.

As a kid Lexi Valentinas spent summers in Pinehurst, and her parents eventually moved to the area full time. Lexi’s groom, Michael Madrid, began visiting the village when the couple started dating in 2023. He’s an avid golfer, so the visits from Charlotte have been more than OK with him.
Michael proposed to Lexi dockside at her family’s beach house in Surf City. His daughter participated in the significant day, too. “After the proposal, Joelle came running with a single red rose, leaping into Lexi’s arms at the end of the dock,” the couple say.
The Madrids hosted their wedding over the weekend of Fourth of July, their favorite holiday. The weekend started with an “I Do BBQ ” catered by Southern Q Catering, followed by an Independence Day packed with golf, brunch and the rehearsal dinner. Then came the big day on July 5, 2025. The Madrids said “I do” in the Community Presbyterian Church, celebrated in the Pinehurst Country Club’s Outlook Ballroom and ended the night in Dugan’s Pub. The next morning guests said farewell at a brunch hosted by the bride’s parents.

Mackenzie Donoghue and Christopher Yang met a modern way — on a dating app. But they went on their first date an old-fashioned way — in person, walking around the water at Southern Pines’ Reservoir Park. After getting engaged, the couple chose Duncraig Manor, in Southern Pines, as their wedding and reception venue. They got married at the magical estate on Aug. 23, 2025.
When Mackenzie walked down the aisle, she wore earrings repurposed from her late grandmother’s rosary.
Personal touches on their wedding day didn’t stop there. Mackenzie was born in Korea but moved Stateside as an adult. To pay homage to her roots, the couple incorporated wedding ducks into their big day. “In traditional Korean weddings, a pair of ducks symbolizes unity, friendship and love,” Mackenzie says.
The couple’s only regret? “We would have found a way to invite more of our close friends!” says Mackenzie. “We did the best we could with the size restrictions and other factors, but looking back, we dearly missed several people we love.”

At Duncraig Manor, history meets a future worth celebrating
Southern Pines’ most iconic Tudor mansion was built in 1928 for a Quaker Oats heiress and her daughter. Nearly 100 years later, Duncraig Manor is home to another mother and daughter, who have continued to evolve the four-acre estate’s exterior into a picture-perfect event venue that looks good from every angle.
Embedded deep in Southern Pines lore, the mansion’s name was chosen by its second owners as a nod to Scotland’s historic Duncraig Castle. In 1990, the American Society of Interior Designers transformed it into a showhouse, inviting more than 40 designers to reinterpret its interiors. The historic manor’s evolution into an event venue began in 2017, following a top-to-bottom restoration.
Since taking ownership of the property in 2023, Dan and Petra D’Agostino have planted more gardens, upgraded existing outdoor spaces and created others, with design elements inspired by Italian architecture. In October 2025, Petra and her daughter, Austy Paterno,
began operating the manor as an event venue. Exterior spaces are now available to the community for weddings, fundraisers, bridal and baby showers and more.
Whether you’re dreaming of an outdoor ceremony, an elegant reception or a fun-filled party, Duncraig offers a variety of gorgeous settings for every moment just a mile from the charming downtown of Southern Pines and a short drive from Aberdeen and Pinehurst.
Brides and grooms receive access to the entire grounds for photography and their choice of five venue locations:
• The Orvieto — a high-end covered pavilion with seating for 150 that features chandeliers and ceiling fans, panoramic views, black and white flooring, a built-in bar and a discrete kitchenette

• The Ritmo — a European-inspired garden with a terrace and sunlit patio, manicured lawn and lilypad pond surrounded by ivy-clad walls
• The Honey Cooler — a sun-drenched terrace with red brick floors and golden umbrellas surrounding a heated or cooled saltwater pool, plus a tea room
• The Paterno — an elevated outdoor space overlooking the gardens which seats 20 guests for a family-style dinner with a wood-fired pizza oven and chef
• The Fountain Courtyard — the centerpiece of Duncraig Manor offers creative seating arrangements for intimate ceremonies, with brides and grooms choosing to seat up to 150 guests around the fountain’s curved exterior.
Couples who reserve Duncraig Manor for their wedding receive access to the venue, including indoor bridal and groom suites, from

10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Spaces are available for setup up to 48 hours before the event. No matter which venue they choose for their ceremony, couples will also enjoy a garden cocktail hour and use of the Orvieto for a reception. Newlyweds also receive a one-night stay in the honeymoon cottage and a continental breakfast.
Interested couples can start with a consultation and a full tour of the space before securing their wedding date. Duncraig Manor requires a wedding planner and will also provide a list of preferred vendors, from decor to catering and photography.

A Raleigh transportation brand brings chauffeur services to Pinehurst and the Sandhills.
Weddings are full of big moments, but it’s the behind-the-scenes logistics that make them all possible. Getting everyone where they need to be, on time and unruffled, is one of those details couples and guests rarely notice when it goes right and never forget when it doesn’t.
Enter Pinehurst Chauffeured Transportation, a new luxury chauffeured transportation service specializing in weddings now serving Moore County. Designed for couples who care about the experience as much as the destination, the company brings polished vehicles, professional chauffeurs and calm, confident coordination to Pinehurst.
The name may be new, but the expertise behind it is not. Pinehurst Chauffeured Transportation is powered by Triangle Corporate Coach, a Raleigh-based transportation company that has spent more than a decade moving corporate leaders, university teams, healthcare organizations and private clients throughout the state. Both brands operate under Brisbon Transportation Group, a worldwide company with a dedication to the details.
Owner and founder Travis Brisbon says the expansion was a natural next step.
“We’ve watched Pinehurst and the Sandhills grow into a true destination for weddings and high-end events,” he says. “As that growth happens, expectations rise too. Couples want their guests to feel taken care of from the moment they arrive, and transportation plays a bigger role in that than people realize.”

Pinehurst Chauffeured Transportation is built for couples who want more than a ride. It’s designed as a true service partner; one that plans ahead, guarantees vehicle availability, and removes the guesswork that often comes with app-based rideshare services. The fleet includes impeccably maintained sedans, SUVs, vans, party buses, luxury minicoaches and motorcoaches, making it easy to accommodate everything from intimate wedding parties to full guest shuttles.
“I started this business because I genuinely love logistics,” Brisbon says. “But weddings are different. When a bride or groom steps into a luxury vehicle with a professional chauffeur, it changes the energy of the day. It’s not just transportation — it’s a moment. And we love creating those moments.”
From airport pickups and rehearsal dinners to bachelor and bachelorette parties, ceremony shuttles, and that final getaway car, Pinehurst Chauffeured Transportation handles it all. Chauffeurs are professionally vetted and trained in etiquette, timing, and discretion, meaning couples can focus on celebrating, not coordinating.
While the operation brings the scale and systems of a regional transportation company, its approach in Pinehurst is intentionally local. Brisbon Transportation Group has been connected to the area since 2016, when it acquired Pinehurst Airport Shuttle through the purchase of All Points Transportation.
“That was really our introduction to the Pinehurst market,” Brisbon says. “At the time, our priority was building the right systems and team in the Triangle so we could grow responsibly. Now, we’re ready to fully invest here.”
That investment shows up in thoughtful planning, responsive communication, and a genuine understanding of the area’s venues, timelines, and traffic patterns — details that matter immensely on a wedding day.
For couples planning celebrations across the Sandhills, Pinehurst Chauffeured Transportation offers peace of mind wrapped in polished presentation. Because when the champagne is chilled and the dress is freshly steamed, the last thing anyone should be doing is refreshing a rideshare app.
For more about Pinehurst Chauffeured Transportation, visit pinehurstchauffeured.com/weddings/, call 910-498-1000 or email info@pinehurstchauffeured.com.

Pinehurst native Amanda Salloum and Kinston native Robert Simmons had their first date at Barcelona Wine Bar, in Raleigh, in 2021. Three years passed, and Robert took Amanda back to the very same tapas restaurant for a brunch she won’t forget. After finishing a delicious meal, he proposed in front of a picturesque, ivy-covered wall near where Amanda was living. A hidden photographer captured the moment.
One year later the Simmonses married in The Village Chapel in front of 140 guests on Sept. 13, 2025. After exchanging vows, the newlyweds hitched a ride with Sandhills Trolley Company to their reception at the Country Club of North Carolina. The space was decorated in a subtle palette of pale pink and pale green, white and gold. Looking back, the couple have no complaints or regrets.
“We had the most amazing day,” Amanda and Robert say. “Everything turned out so beautifully from start to finish — we could not have asked for a more perfect wedding day.”

Emma Taylor’s cousin-in-law set her up with Holden Brown, and it was a match. A couple of years into dating, Holden proposed to Emma during a family photo session on the fittingly named Holden Beach. A couple of years after that, the spouses-to-be wed at Village Pine Venue on Sept. 27, 2025.
The bride and groom loved the trees on Village Pine’s property. “My family owns a sawmill, so we are constantly planting pines on all our land,” says Emma. “My parents’ house is surrounded by pine trees, and I think they are beautiful.” The Browns doubled down on Southern foliage, incorporating magnolia leaves into their floral arrangements with the help of Jack Hadden Floral & Event Design. Personal touches completed the big day. Emma wore a tennis bracelet her dad had gifted to her mom long ago. The bride’s brother and his best friend’s jazz duo, Soul Noises, performed during cocktail hour. As for the seating chart, the couple’s grandmothers created an art gallery of paintings and pottery.

A no-frills approach to beauty that lasts longer than the honeymoon phase
Looking for real secrets the wedding industry doesn’t want you to know? Here’s one: You’re not a fixer-upper who needs serious beauty intervention before you even think of approaching the aisle. Here’s another: Your confidence shouldn’t depend on your relationship status — you’re worth the investment whether or not you have a ring on your finger.
“We’re not interested in getting you ‘wedding-photo perfect’ only to have you abandon yourself the moment the honeymoon ends,” says Liz Olsen, founder of Syringe & Sass Aesthetics. “We’re interested in something bigger.”
That something? A science-backed plan that helps women and men achieve and maintain what they consider to be the best version of themselves, through every phase in their lives. Here’s how Olsen and her team do it.
Syringe & Sass operates on a model of Foundation, Restoration and Elevation, which is a fancy way of saying they don’t just chase symptoms.
• Foundation means understanding what your skin actually needs — not what Instagram told you it needs. Maybe that’s addressing the hormonal chaos causing your breakouts. Maybe it’s rebuilding collagen you lost in your 20s without realizing it. Maybe it’s finally dealing with the sun damage from that decade you thought SPF was optional. Every treatment plan starts with an in-depth consultation to figure it all out.
• Restoration is the work. Regenerative injectables like PRP, PRF, and Sculptra that actually rebuild rather than just fill, and IV therapy and wellness injectables that address what’s happening internally. This isn’t about looking different. It’s about functioning better.
• Elevation is where most clinics start and stop. Think Botox, fillers, and other tweaks. Syringe & Sass does these, too. But they hit different when the foundation is already solid.

Olsen and her team don’t believe in filters, and not just when it comes to their photos on social media. “You deserve the truth: what works, what doesn’t, what’s worth your money, and what’s marketing garbage,” Olsen says. “I will never sell you something that’s not the best option. Results from the right treatment plan are going to be so much better in the long run.”
Olsen spent years in critical care nursing, helping people through the hardest moments of their lives. That experience translates to aesthetics more than you might think.
“I know if someone doesn’t like how they look and doesn’t feel good about themselves, it can be absolutely debilitating. Helping you get that glow from the inside is what I’m all about.”
Forget white walls, whisper voices and tranquil music. Syringe & Sass blasts music you actually like, and you might even see a few dance moves. Olsen and her team take their work seriously, but aren’t afraid to crack an inappropriate joke. They text you back — as real people. Check-ins aren’t automated. Relationships are real.
“Most of the things I do for you, you’re not going to enjoy,” Olsen laughs. “People don’t say Botox feels great or getting injections is
relaxing. It’s the results you’re after, but we want you to feel welcome and comfortable, and maybe even have some fun, while you’re here with us putting in the work.”
Brides and grooms book with Syringe & Sass because they’re interested in making a long-term commitment — to themselves. If your wedding is in 12 months, you’ll have time to build collagen, address texture and establish a maintenance routine you’ll keep long after you’ve returned the rental chairs. If your wedding is in three months, Syringe & Sass can still make improvements and set you up so you’re not starting from zero when the photos are framed and on your wall. If you’re not getting married at all, that’s fine too. You never need an excuse to put yourself first.
“The best time to start caring for your skin was 10 years ago,” Olsen says. “The second best time is right now.”
Syringe & Sass is located at 100 Pavilion Way, Suite C, in Southern Pines. For a full list of services, visit syringeandsass.com. For information, email hello@syringeandsass.com or call 910.684.8456.

Southern Q serves up southern hospitality
Like many homegrown businesses, Southern Q Catering began as a backyard hobby for Alex and Paula McCaskill. Over the past decade, it has turned into a full-service operation, quietly building a reputation for playing a lead role in events people are genuinely proud to host.
“We do a little bit of everything,” Paula McCaskill says, and that may be the most accurate description of Southern Q’s evolution. The business started with Alex’s love for barbecue — Southernstyle, slow-cooked meats that friends and neighbors began requesting for gatherings. As word spread, so did the menu. Today,
barbecue is only a small slice of what Southern Q offers, with beef tenderloin, pork tenderloin, brisket and chicken appearing just as often. Signature sides include mac and cheese, roasted and mashed potatoes, and a variety of salads. Customizable potato bars and salad bars are popular options as are hearty hors d’oeuvres, especially at weddings.
Flexibility is central to Southern Q’s approach. Clients begin by reviewing a menu and selecting what fits their vision. From there, the McCaskills guide them through choices on meats, sides, and quantities. Southern Q can handle as much — or as little — of the

event as a client wants. That may mean simply preparing and serving food, or managing rentals for dinnerware, flatware, and fine china to create a fully polished experience.
Seasonal specialties add even more variety. Low country boils, oyster roasts, taco bars, and other themed menus are available on a limited basis. “We are very diversified. A lot of what we offer depends on the time of year,” Paula said, describing a menu that adapts to both the season and the occasion.
Behind the scenes, everything is made in-house using locally sourced meats and produce from nearby farms. Alex oversees all meats and Paula handles the sides, working alongside staff members who are trained carefully to maintain consistency.
The team works closely with clients, answering questions, offering guidance, and collaborating with event planners, venue managers and other vendors. “We won’t make decisions for you,” Paula adds, “but we help you make the decisions that make your event the best it can be.”
While the food earns high praise, it’s the service that Southern Q is best known for. “We get as many compliments on our service as we do our food,” Paula said. Alex credits the team behind the scenes. “We’ve

got the best crew there is, bar none,” he said. For the McCaskills, success isn’t measured by size, but by satisfaction. If clients leave feeling proud of their event, Southern Q considers the job done right.
For Paula, who moved to Moore County later in life, the business has also been a way to build community. “We love cooking, but we love meeting people even more,” she said. “It makes it home.” Alex, a Moore County native, agrees — and Southern Q’s presence at multiple weddings and repeat appearances at annual community events have only strengthened those ties.
To inquire about Southern Q’s catering services, email southernqcatering2015@gmail.com or call Paula McCaskill at 704-694-8137. sponsored by southern q

Rachel Rocha and Nolan McNeill met in a college communications class when they were paired up for an assignment. They exchanged numbers for the project and ended up eating lunch together every day that semester. Seven years later Rachel and Nolan got engaged, and on Oct. 4, 2025, they were married. “We recently sent wedding pictures to our professor thanking him for the introduction!” says Rachel.
The couple exchanged “I dos” in the Fair Barn. Decorations of burnt orange and shades of green complemented the autumn season. “I wanted to be a fairy princess in the fall,” Rachel says.
The wedding ran smoothly. The couple was happy with all their vendors, though one stood out to the bride. For photography the couple hired Kaitlyn Blake, who made sure to help the bride honor her late mom. “My mother died when I was a teenager, and it was really important to me that we celebrated her,” Rachel says. Thanks to Blake, Rachel has photos of her mom’s saved seat “holding” her wedding bouquet.

Unlike an elopement with only an officiant and a couple of witnesses, a micro-wedding is the full wedding experience, just with a smaller guest list. Couples who want all the traditional elements of a large wedding but on a smaller and more financially manageable scale are opting for this wedding trend. Bride & Groom by PineStraw has noticed an increase in micro-wedding submissions. The following ceremonies prove that you can have a beautiful wedding on any budget and at any size.
Jennifer McKinnon and Michael Nunziato met and live in New England. But the bride’s uncle is a priest who moved to Southern Pines to start a church. “He is my godfather, and I wanted him to marry us,” Jennifer says. “I decided to travel to North Carolina to make it easier for him.”
The couple welcomed their guests with a delicious dinner at Ironwood restaurant in Pinehurst. The next day, May 17, 2025, they wed lakeside at the Pinehurst Resort. Mike adores the water in his home state of New Hampshire. He asked Jennifer to marry him on a dock. “I wanted to choose a place where Mike could look out and see a lake and boats and have his moment,” says Jennifer.
The bride walked the aisle, the first part by herself, and the rest of the way with the groomsmen — her two sons. For the after party, everyone headed to the Carolina Hotel.
“Coming from Connecticut, I underestimated true Southern charm, the Pines area, and just how perfect my vendors would be,” Jennifer says. “North Carolina beat my own high expectations.”

5.25.2025
Brittney Ortiz met Jake Williams while she was vacationing for a few months on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Brittney wasn’t looking for a relationship, but Jake was respectfully persistent. “It was a very Covid proposal, intimate and casual. In our living room on Hilton Head Island, he got down on one knee,” Brittney says. “We eloped the next day.”
A wedding with family and friends came five years later, on May 25, 2025. The couple had moved to Moore County, and their ceremony was held on the grounds of the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities. “It was the perfect setting for our garden chic theme,” says Brittney. The husband and wife had eloped in the library of her South Carolina synagogue. They paid homage to that decision by signing their Jewish marriage contract, the ketubah, in the library of the Boyd House. “I thought the literary significance of Weymouth fit perfectly for our love story,” Brittney says. Particularly special details from the Williams’ wedding included the intricate, limited-edition design of their contract from ketubah.com, as well as the challah baked by DeLucia’s Bake Shop, in West End.
