Braham male airlifted after rollover STAFF REPORT NEWS@MORAMINN.COM
Three Braham males were involved in a single-vehicle rollover early morning June 30. Isanti County Communications received a report of the rural Isanti County accident at 5:52 a.m. According to the report, there were three people in the car when it rolled over. During the investigation, it was determined the 2000
Pontiac Grand Am appeared to be going south on County Road 10 in Stanford Township. The driver, a 19-year-old male from Braham, apparently fell asleep and hit a driveway approach and then the intersection at 269th Avenue NW, causing the vehicle to roll. The two passengers were 17-year-old males from Braham. One of the passengers, who was not wearing his seatbelt, appeared to have neck and back injuries and
could not move. The passenger was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. The other two were treated at an area hospital. There was no alcohol or drugs detected on the driver. The case remains under investigation by the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office. Isanti Fire District, Allina Ambulance, Braham Police Department and Isanti County Safety and Rescue assisted with the incident.

At the Mora School Board Meeting on Thursday, June 23, senior project manager Damien Williams and site supervisor Joe Vry from Duluth-based engineering firm Foster, Jacobs and Johnson provided a progress report. “Construction started the last week of May, and things are underway,” Williams said, “We have about 50 workers on site, and we’re making good, solid progress.” Damien Williams “The board was fortunate Senior project manager before the meeting to be able to tour the site for the first time since the day the shovels hit the dirt,” said board chair Karen Kirschner. “It was pretty darn exciting.” Vry summarized the progress that has been made to date. “The administration, cafeteria, and kitchen areas are well underway. The gymnasium area has been excavated, and footings and foundation will soon be in place there. Footings and foundations are in place through the rest of the area. You’ll see huge changes within the next few weeks.” Williams said that due to budget efficiency FJJ has added in some features that had previously been taken out of the project, such as extra casework in the classrooms. Requests for bids on lighting upgrades, cafeteria cabinets, and a boiler upgrade have all been released, or will be shortly. Other items are “in design,” he said,

Becky Utecht, rural Ogilvie sheep producer and artist, has combined her interest in the science of raising wool sheep breeds with the craft of creating works of art from wool. She has received several honors and recognition for her work. Her 2009 felted artwork, titled “Portrait of Lena” won Best of Show in the East Central Arts Council’s regional Image Art Show. It went on to be included in the Lark Books’ “500 Felt Objects” and it took second place in the fiber/textile category at the 2010 Minnesota State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition.
