PEMBERTON—A shortage of school bus drivers, the apparent departure of a transportation director just 30 days before the start of the 2021-22 school year, a third-party retained over the summer (unbeknownst to at least one school board member) to restructure school bus routes, reportedly unfamiliar with the geographical area of Pemberton Township

pick-up and drop-off times for students so that most among nine schools are picked up at essentially the same time, the lack of a policy that youngsters of a certain age have to be dropped-off to a parent or guardian, a 2015 change in Motor Vehicle Commission requirements, cuts in state aid that have caused the district to curtail the hiring of school bus aides and forced a reduction in before-school childcare

planning and poor management,” as well as purported poor communication, has all been cited as the reasons for “complete chaos” in the Pemberton Township School District during the first weeks of the new school year, or what one school bus driver described as an “egregious problem” that has been “absolutely catastrophic” and “detrimental” to the Pemberton Schools

A mong s evera l prop os e d p ol ic ie s that the Pemberton Township Board of Education is considering for approval over the next several weeks is one that contends with vaccinations, which according to Pemberton Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Havers mirrors the executive order “that is something we have to follow.” “One of the things I want to be clear about is it is a mandatory law,” maintained Havers during a Sept. 16 Pemberton Township Board of Education meeting. “We have to follow it, and if we don’t follow it, we could subject ourselves to potential liability.” Pemberton Board Member Andrew Sytnik revealed that a vaccination policy for Pemberton Schools was in the making through his somewhat critical questioning on Sept. 16 of proposed stipulations in it. Sytnik pointed out that “paragraph three” of the proposed Pemberton policy says that “covered workers” include “contractors, See MANDATE/ Page 4
