Pi ivuyt is, above a , a story women and men who preserve and celebrate the e ence French way living
Pillivuy’s artisans have been shaping porcelain objects that our customers have appreciated since 1818. Porcelain is a lasting legacy, where two centuries of craftsmanship are passed down as tradition from master to master.
For more than 200 years, this reason has guided the Pillivuyt house in its daily life and allowed it to maintain lasting relationships with customers around the world. This promise is also an invitation to choose quality products carefully designed in the tradition of the Master Porcelain Makers and with respect for authentic gestures.
Pillivuyt is one of the oldest French porcelain brands with over 200 years of history. A true guardian of craft and industrial knowhow, the manufacture is located in the heart of the Berry region.
Recognized as a French Living Heritage Company in 2009, the brand radiates excellence and embodies the French art de la table worldwide.
1818
Jean Louis Richard and Mr. Klein bought a brick factory in the small town of Foëcy in the Sancerre region, which they transformed into a porcelain factory. After a difficult start, they won their first design prize in New York.
1854
Charles Pillivuyt built a new factory in the nearby town of Mehun-sur-Yèvre. The company was successful, winning awards and medals at exhibitions worldwide..The company’s reputation quickly spread internationally, and Pillivuyt soon became the preferred choice of many royal households.
Pillivuyt made significant strides in efficiency with the introduction of steam engines. As the company grew, its workforce expanded to 800 employees. Embracing new technologies, Pillivuyt transitioned from wood to gas fuel, and its distribution network expanded into America.
After World War II, Pillivuyt continued its efforts to capture a global market by collaborating with chefs and other professionals to create new, innovative, and attractive designs aligned with current trends. Continuous modernization has helped increase the efficiency and profitability of production.
Pillivuyt has developed Pillenium, a type of porcelain that’s tougher and more durable than other materials, earning them an Innovation Award. At the same time, they’ve been advancing their product line to include items that are compatible with both flame and induction cooking. They’re also introducing new glazes and contemporary shapes to meet the demands of today’s market.
Pillivuyt celebrated its 200th anniversary, making it one of the few companies in the world to reach such a remarkable milestone.
The company imprints its expertise on each of its creations with a distinctive mark, which signifies the enduring excellence of its quality and the ongoing evolution of its success. This mark has evolved over time to showcase only its trademark.

c r e a t i o n Whether it’s the result of a customer request or a project from our design team, whether it’s a new shape or a new pattern, creation is above all a matter of passion, expressed through feelings and aesthetic choices in lines, colors, and textures..
T h e r a w m a t e r i a l s , to which we pay great attention, are the other essential element in crafting our porcelain. Composed of minerals and pure white clay (kaolin), they are mixed and diluted in water. The hard components are ground down, and the mixture is suspended in large vats until a liquid paste is formed, which is then filtered to create dough cakes. This calibrated paste is then kneaded and shaped into rolls of varying diameters, depending on the pieces being made. Like fine wine, it is aged in a cellar to preserve all its qualities. A d e e p

Today, our manufacturing techniques have reached an unmatched level of precision, yet the mastery of ancient craftsmanship is never far away. This is how age-old skills combine with the most advanced technologies.
Together, they enrich our craft over time, making it a bridge between tradition and modernity.
Did you know?
The decor, and the net in particular, is part of Pillivuyt’s ancestral know-how. Nearly 10 years of training are required for our spinners to master the technique of the brush on pieces of different shapes.
Sourced from 75% French quarries and 25% European quarries, the dry materials are carefully inspected, stored, and processed in our workshop to create two types of clay used in crafting our pieces.
The pieces are first cooked at 980°C for 20 hours. This cooking, called degourdi, hardens the pieces, dehydrates them and makes them porous so that the enamel can then attach to it on the surface.
The pieces are then cooked a second time, at 1400°C for 20 hours. The purpose of this firing is to vitrify the enamel and make the piece non-porous.
The pieces are stored before being shipped or decorated.
cOOKING
To fix these decorations, the pieces are cooked one last time. This is done in the tunnel oven, either at 900°C or 1230°C. When the oven is finished, a final sorting step is performed before sending the parts to shipping.
3 types of processing existing at Pillivuyt:
- Calibration for the manufacture of the so-called parts of revolution
- Traditional or pressure casting for the manufacture of parts of complex shapes.
- Pressing for the production of more refined forms in large series
Each piece, to have a smooth and shiny appearance, is dipped in an enamel bath. Hand glazing is a very elaborate gesture that allows to deposit on the surface of the piece as constant thickness as possible.
All parts in the production are checked one by one and selected according to their quality level.
This action of decoration of porcelain enhances the pieces and emphasizes a shape to attract the eye, either by a net hand, a decor called «chromo» or color sprayed on the surface.

O u r p r o d u c t s a r e 1 0 0 % M a d e i n F r a n c e , and behind the Pillivuyt stamp lies two centuries of history, shaped by the hands that lovingly craft our porcelain.
As a custodian of the unparalleled expertise of French master porcelain makers, Pillivuyt boasts a rich 200-year history that began in the heart of Berry, along the banks of the canal that bears its name. Our house perpetuates this ancestral and artisanal know-how through our crafts and collections, which have evolved with traditions and customs, yet have always been recognized for their excellence.
Adorned with a cascade of gold medals at the Paris World Expos of 1867, 1878, 1889, 1900, and in Philadelphia in 1923, our Pillivuyt manufacture has consistently stood out for the quality of its porcelain and its mastery of a production process in which it excels. While this process is now more automated, it remains laborious and complex: from model creation to paste production, molding, shaping, firing, enameling, and decoration, each step in our porcelain-making process embodies a unique expertise.
Since 2009, Pillivuyt has proudly held the ‘Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant’ label, awarded by the State to French companies that embody excellence in artisanal and industrial know-how. Granted for a five-year period, our teams are proud to have maintained this distinction since 2009 and to share this exceptional craftsmanship and French expertise with other manufacturers worldwide. We have achieved this by carefully preserving our history and know-how. The label particularly honors companies that work to ensure the sustainability of trades in their regions, promote the transmission of skills, and safeguard the jobs associated with them, while also recognizing those that successfully blend innovation with tradition.

Why Choose Pillivuyt Porcelain?
The quality of our porcelain stems from 200 years of expertise, serving the finest tables and top chefs. Its unique properties are aligned with the highest standards of the culinary world, with our manufacturing process continuously evolving to meet the demands of chefs.
Unlike ceramics, pottery, and earthenware, which are porous, porcelain is a noble and impermeable material created from the fusion of several elements Our porcelain is a hardpaste ceramic made from a blend of kaolin (50%), clay, feldspar, and quartz, fired first at 950°C and then between 1,300°C and 1,400°C.
This process gives it complete nonporosity (ensuring absolute food hygiene and perfect taste neutrality) as well as unmatched thermal resistance on the market. As a result, Pillivuyt products can go from freezer to traditional oven or microwave for an unparalleled culinary experience. Moreover, our porcelain ensures even cooking and keeps dishes warm for extended periods during service.
It has the distinctive quality of remaining white after firing This whiteness is due to the unique recipe of our clay, which we have been one of the few houses to produce ourselves since the inception of Pillivuyt.
Crafting our own clay is the foundation of the Pillivuyt promise, underpinning our commitment to our customers. We tailor it to meet the specific everyday needs of culinary and tableware use.
The legendary purity of our porcelain contributes to its nobility. Its durability ensures that our porcelain pieces can be kept for a lifetime.
Finally, the extreme hardness of Pillivuyt’s enamel makes our tableware resistant to all challenges (from extreme heat to cold) and incredibly easy to clean (it doesn’t need drying after being removed from the dishwasher), making it perfect for everyday superior use.
I t s u n m a t c h e d q u a l i t i e s o f u s e a n d c a r e , p e r f e c t e d o v e r d e c a d e s , explain why Pillivuyt is the undisputed reference in white porcelain, recognized by all who are passionate about the culinary arts.
The bistro cup and the mazagran, for instance, are world-renowned and have contributed to our manufacture’s enduring reputation, from European courts to the Vatican. Today, each of these iconic pieces has lent its name to everyday objects known by all, further cementing Pillivuyt’s fame.
Our house applies its master porcelain-making craft worldwide, constantly reinventing its collections to meet the needs of both private individuals and professionals.
The diversity of our creations reflects a balance between emblematic collections that enhance Pillivuyt’s international reputation and a wide range of culinary and tableware services carefully adapted to each market we serve.
The ‘Plissé’ line is a perfect example. This historic collection has become a timeless classic, whose immaculate whiteness adds a touch of elegance to any table, highlighting the tradition of French savoir-vivre. Created in 1900, it has been modernized by our designers to offer a more refined and delicate pleat than ever before. Since then, it has enjoyed tremendous success, particularly in the Korean market.
Pillivuyt brings together collections of historic pieces that have become iconic.

The story goes that perfecting this recipe required the creation of an individual gratin tureen in white porcelain, essential for preserving the dish’s flavors and heat. t o l a s t . We create durable products meant to accompany each person throughout their life and beyond, with our brand recognized for being passed down as a legacy.

There, our presence in the retail market has remained steady for 30 years, thanks to a father and son who have successively imported Pillivuyt products.
Our international distribution was born from connections with individuals who recognized the incredible quality of Pillivuyt’s products. This global expansion has only grown over time, supported by new distribution channels built on trust and lasting relationships.
Today, our brand is present on five continents, with our products widely distributed in stores abroad.
Our house is renowned for the quality and French craftsmanship of its tableware, symbolizing gastronomy and the art of living across the world. Pillivuyt is able to meet the specific needs of each country and adapts to every market. In Australia, consumers appreciate the unmatched quality of Pillivuyt, as well as its positioning as both high-end and accessible. Australians are particularly drawn to the fact that our tableware fulfills its promises, seamlessly transitioning from freezer to oven, being fully non-porous and therefore completely hygienic.
Its neutral and timeless design complements any table, perfectly aligning with their preferences, which are similar to those of Scandinavian consumers in terms of design. These countries recognize the undeniable value of our white porcelain and are willing to invest in it.
Our brand offers a range of formats to adapt to the lifestyle of each country where Pillivuyt is present. In the United States, we offer large serving dishes (55 cm long), essential to American culture, purchased individually or, more often, as part of a set (‘Five-piece place setting’).
In Asia, on the other hand, we focus on smaller containers (bowls, sauce dishes) to match the culinary habits and practices of consumers. In the Korean market, Pillivuyt offers 12 product lines, primarily white, high-end, with a preference for gold and platinum trim. Recently, our distributors acquired molds and new designs that are currently being developed for sale in Korea. In Denmark, mugs and small plates (20 cm), ideal for quick meals, are the top sellers.
In France, a complete range is available through our e-commerce site, the factory store in Mehun-surYèvre, and a growing network of local retailers. Pillivuyt is also featured in major Parisian department stores with a selection tailored to the demands of their clientele. Since August 2022, our house has expanded its offering of white and decorated tableware at Galeries Lafayette and BHV through the Ville de Paris and Brasserie collections. Soon, the Canopée collection will further enrich this refined selection.
