Early Education
OUR APPROACH
The Pilgrim School Early Education program provides a safe and nurturing environment that emphasizes play-based learning and the development of social and emotional skills, both of which are vital for children to thrive and build a solid foundation for their future education and personal growth.
The early years, from 18 months to 4 years old, are a critical stage for a child’s cognitive, emotional, and social development. During this transformative period, children engage with foundational concepts through storytelling, literature, world languages, visual arts, music and dance. These enriching experiences encourage them to explore their surroundings, using play as a dynamic and enjoyable way to learn - preparing them for a successful transition to Kindergarten.
Pilgrim School, established in 1958, is a college preparatory institution located in Koreatown, Los Angeles.
are committed to nurturing an inclusive community that serves students aged 18 months through 12th grade.
mission is to inspire and challenge students to better themselves and the world around them.

OUR PROGRAM
PLAY-BASED APPROACH
We are rooted in play-based learning. This evidence-based approach to education embraces the innate curiosity of children. Through purposeful play, students practice the skills needed for pre-reading, writing, and math while developing social and emotional skills needed for positive interpersonal relationships.
OUTDOOR LEARNING
The benefits of outdoor education are numerous and we proudly integrate outdoor learning into our program. At this pivotal developmental stage, outdoor learning provides students opportunities to develop motor skills, engage with all of their senses, and experience new contexts for learning.
SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING
Social and emotional well-being are essential to learning at all ages, especially for children under five. A focus on social emotional learning creates a safe learning environment where children can discover more about themselves and learn how to interact positively with others. Our teachers are experts at modeling behaviors and showing children how to positively resolve conflict. By building a strong foundation in social and emotional understanding, students are better prepared to manage relationships with their peers and achieve success.

TODDLER (18 MONTHS–35 MONTHS OLD)
Our Toddler program focuses on the transition to school life by familiarizing children with classroom routines, creating healthy separation from primary caregivers, and developing self-help skills.
PRESCHOOL (3 YEARS OLD)
Our Preschool program builds on the solid foundation of the Toddler program to help children explore more complex social relationships and intellectual concepts. Activities are structured to move children from the parallel play skills (playing alone next to others) nurtured in the Toddler program to interactive play (playing with others), which is vital to facilitating social and emotional development.
JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN (4 YEARS OLD)
Our Junior Kindergarten program serves as a bridge, connecting skills developed in preschool to the Kindergarten curriculum. Students in Junior Kindergarten engage with an emergent curriculum explored through observation, interactive play, and meaningful learning experiences. This forms the bedrock of the Pilgrim educational experience, cultivating self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence.
