WOLVERHAMPTON IS IN OUR HANDS
As we progressively get more curious with art and design, we are constantly finding that the practice is being held with increased compassion and value, with people not wanting the medium to be lost in spirit.
Art can be seen through social media and from creative students all around the region, yet the scene at Wolverhampton is one that is unique, a key commitment to the West Midlands creative hub and its rich industrial history.
As the Art Gallery takes the spotlight, the local community of

the act of creation and this idea is fading as we move forwards, despite its undeniable importance. However, a community that holds its values at heart is one that has hope; Wolverhampton has strong foundations, and we can’t give up on it now.
Is one of these venues that is at the heart of Wolverhampton, tackling creative endeavours while noticing collaborative ambitions. From community
recognise the upcoming events that could shape the art scene and distinguish Wolverhampton from any other UK city. Nothing is more important than communication and creative practice, and upcoming events are the way to collaboration and success.
You will catch us attending every life drawing workshop every Wednesday night throughout October, as well as keeping up with promising interns Giovanni Uche and Finn Baker as they work up to their open studio events in December.

NETHERTON ART CENTRE
Netherton Art Centre, is a community arts venue primarily used for performances, community events, and educational programs. It hosts a variety of live performances including theatre, music, comedy, and dance. The art centre was established when its foundation stone was laid on July 5th 1883,
Opened by the Countess if Dudley. In the early years of the art centre being opened, it went under a different name, Netherton Institute. From 1910 to 1939, The building served as a cinema; Although, for a period of time it was closed before being converted and reopened into as Netherton Art Centre after World War Two.
In 2021 due to lack of use and little funding, the Art Centre closed for a period of time. Then, in 2022, the Art Centre was put under Theatres under risk category since the building was vacant leaving it vulnerable to fabric deterioration.

JOESOULPRINTSATELIER
Joe Satelier’s journey from graphic designer to tattoo artist is a fascinating example of creative evolution, driven by a desire for more freedom and fulfilment in his work. After earning his degree from the University of Wolverhampton in 2017, Joe initially dove into the professional design industry, working with large companies and design agencies. His role involved creating interactive spreadsheets, a task that, while professionally rewarding, ultimately felt limiting and repetitive to him.
As he reflected on his time in the design world, Joe mentioned that although his work was fulfilling in some ways, it lacked the creative freedom he craved. The high-pressure, fast-paced environments were one of the key reasons he decided not to pursue further roles in the design industry. Instead, he shifted his focus to tattooing, a craft he had begun to explore in his spare time and later honed into a full-time career.
What makes Joe’s transition especially noteworthy is how he maintained his graphic design roots even as he moved into tattooing. His original design studio, which once served as a professional design space, was transformed into his tattoo studio in the city centre. This allowed Joe to blend both disciplines seamlessly. While tattooing became his primary focus, he continued to offer freelance design services, screen printing, and other graphic-related print finishes, ensuring that he could still engage in design work on his own terms.
Joe’s move to tattooing was about more than just a career shift—it was about finding creative freedom. He described how tattooing gave him the opportunity to express himself in a way that the high-intensity, client-driven world of design didn’t. This new path allowed him to enjoy what he was doing every day, a luxury he didn’t feel he had in the design world.

His growing tattoo account, which continues to reach more people as his reputation expands, reflects the success of this shift. Although Joe has largely moved away from full- time design work, he hasn’t shut the door on it entirely. His design commissions remain open, and he’s worked with notable clients like Revolt, Visualdom, and Wolf Town Skateboards since transitioning into tattooing.
Balancing both his tattoo career and his design work has allowed Joe to stay connected to his roots while fully embracing his new creative path. While he doesn’t see himself returning to the design industry full-time anytime soon, he finds joy in continuing to offer design services in a way that works for him, rather than being bound by the constraints of traditional agency life. This approach reflects his overall philosophy: creative freedom and a passion for what he does every day.
