​More Details about Labiaplasty: Overview: Labia minora reduction, is a procedure that changes the appearance and size of a woman’s labia minora. This is referred to as a labiaplasty. A woman’s inner labia can have natural variations in size and shape. Some women have size, shape, or pigmentation asymmetries. A labiaplasty can help a woman achieve the appearance of her labia that she desires. Other female genital procedures also exist and can change the appearance of the labia majora, mons, or clitoral hood.

The Consultation with Dr. Hayes: Every step of the office visit, procedure, and post-operative care are kept as discrete as possible. Dr. Hayes believes that maintaining a private and comfortable experience is the key to happy patients, who are satisfied with their decision to undergo a labiaplasty procedure. During your consultation you’ll have the

opportunity to discuss your specific concerns and talk about the look that you would like to achieve. Dr. Hayes will discuss the different types of female genital procedures. He’ll show you where the surgical scars are placed and discuss the recovery.

During the Surgery: Dr. Hayes uses techniques for labiaplasty procedures that are less commonly performed, but yield a better result with less noticeable scarring and a more natural appearance of the labia. He uses a wedge procedure and avoids "amputating" the labia edge. Amputation procedures can lead to conspicuous scars, and over-resection of the labia.

The surgery is performed as a same-day procedure in a state-of-the-art AAAHC certified operating room. There are several options for anesthesia during the procedure. Some patients choose to have only local anesthesia, so that they may drive themselves home after the procedure. For patients who desire deeper sedation, intravenous sedation or general anesthesia can be used. All anesthesia is administered by board certified physician anesthesiologists.

Recovery: After the surgery Dr. Hayes stays in close contact with each patient to make sure that he’s available to answer any questions. Return to activities varies depending on which procedures were performed. Most women can return to exercise after one week. Biking activities can be resumed at four weeks. Return to sexual activity varies based on the specific procedure, but usually occurs at 4-6 weeks.

Labiaplasty FAQS: Will my partner know I had a labiaplasty?

Dr. Hayes uses an extended wedge labiaplasty. The scars are hidden between the labia minora and majora (the inner and outer labia). Also, Dr. Hayes uses absorbable sutures that are buried underneath the skin. This eliminates suture marks. The more commonly performed "trim" labiaplasty technique leaves a long scar that's usually closed with a baseball stitch along the entire labial edge. This can leave a noticeable, and irregular scar.

Can a labiaplasty be combined with other surgical procedures?

Labiaplasty can be combined with other genital, or non-genital, plastic surgery procedures. Labiaplasty can be combined with clitoral hood reduction, labia majora reduction or labia majora enlargement with fat grafting.

Labiaplasty can be combine with breast surgeries (augmentation or lift) or a liposuction procedure.
