Women here are encouraged through our Female Encouragement Ecosystem, an initiative that involves a variety of sectors and strives to encourage and support their development.

“In creating the ecosystem, we are encouraging all of our stakeholders to value women and to inspire the female population. In this way, women can increasingly occupy the spaces where they are presently capable of having.”According to Cristine Grings Nogueira, the company’s president.

One of the actions taken is the Chain of Encouragement. Suppliers are encouraged to have women in leadership and gender equity through criteria within Conexão Total (Total Connection), a program that evaluates them annually.

Another action is Encoraja (Encourage) PICCADILLY, a program that boosts the talent of women through exclusive and limited pill collections. The first one brings products with paintings created by the artisan from Rio Grande do Sul, Rejane Grings.

“The program will certainly bring many career opportunities, extra income and financial independence, transforming their lives”, says vice president and product director Ana Carolina Grings.

The Women’s Encouragement Ecosystem consists of several areas. The goal is that more women can be impacted inside and outside PICCADILLY; so that they have more opportunities to grow, take charge of their space, and stand out.

“Women who are encouraged are not only those who hold relevant positions within the company, but also those who believe in their role no matter where they are.” says administrative-financial director Ana Paula Grings.

Beauty is not what OTHERS expect you to be. True beauty is YOUR discovery of who YOU truly are.

In the book “Da raiz do cabelo até a ponta do pé” (From the root of the hair to the tip of the toe) we meet Nandoca, a girl who loves to dance, but who is insecure in her first ballet class.

Deep inside, she is afraid of not being accepted, of not being liked, but she still does not know how to name what she feels. And everything gets even worse when her hair is let loose in the middle of a dance. Noticing the perplexity this causes in her classmates, Nandoca feels ashamed and sad, and comes to the conclusion: “I will never be a ballerina.

The little girl almost gives up on something she loves so much for fear of judgment, but her mother, attentive, encourages her daughter to continue. In the next ballet class something surprising happens! The other girls, inspired by Nandoca’s dancing, break the ballet protocols and appear with loose hair and colorful clothes. Wavy, curly, straight, curled, short hair, and even a balding student, who returns to class after winning the fight against cancer.

It is in their clothes that they express their tastes and their most diverse identities. Besides dancing, one of them loves soccer, another loves rock music, and another loves kittens. Ballet’s pink gives way to yellow, lilac, blue, orange, and a variety of other colors.

At every student that arrives, Nandoca is amazed and feels more and more a part of that group, not because they are the same, but because they are unique.

Finally, the teacher, at first very strict and always striving for perfection, joins the students and says: “my dear dancers, you have reminded me of something very significant: every girl is perfect, every girl is beautiful just the way she is, from the root of her hair to the tip of her foot”.

One day I received a message from a mother who told me she had read Nandoca’s story with her daughter. She wrote to tell me that one day she was in front of the mirror and made a not very nice comment about her own appearance.

The little girl came up to me and said: - Mommy, don’t forget, every girl is beautiful just the way she is, from the root of her hair to the tip of her foot. And so are mommies!

I hope Nandoca’s story encourages the readers of PICCADILLY Magazine to love themselves as they are and to realize that all beauty deserves to be celebrated.

Leci Barboza da Silva manages more than 120 employees in the sewing sector, at the Teutônia/RS plant. She has been working at PICCADILLY for 9 years and has worked in the footwear industry for more than 30. Her team is formed mostly by women who produce footwear for other women, forming a network of female encouragement.

is IT (information technology) infrastructure coordinator, an area that is still predominantly male today. There are about five employees under her leadership and provides support to many others.

Her trajectory in PICCADILLY began in the productive sector and has now added up to 24 years.

Braspress, a parcel carrier based in Guarulhos (SP), is one of them.

The company is a pioneer in hiring female drivers in the country and today 25% of its drivers are women.

The female professional stands out in a male-dominated field

“In 1998, when our president Mr. Urubatan Helou was on a trip to the United States, he saw a female driver driving a bi-articulated bus and thought that female drivers could bring a good image to Braspress. And so he did. In the 90’s he gave women the opportunity to enter a profession that was previously dominated by men,” explains national human resources manager Sarita Almeida.

One of the drivers of the transport company is Elaine Cristina da Cruz. Inspired by her father, a retired truck driver, she started driving trucks in 2002 and since 2018 she has been operating trailer trucks.”Despite my father’s apprehension at first, he never showed prejudice against me because I’m a woman. He is proud of me” she says.

Elaine understands that the number of women in the industry is growing, but she still sees challenges on the road. . “I see some situations on the street, for example: there are men who drive trucks, smaller than mine, and they don’t want to give way. They want to close me down and show that they are better. But we let them pass, because we are not betting anything with anyone”, she adds.

Another company that stands out for its female presence is the Cofrag Group, a textile industry based in Rio Grande do Sul and present in three other states: Bahia, Ceará and São Paulo. Women are in several functions that range from the production sector to commercial and industrial management.

“We understand that it is a way to have different perspectives and skills added to management, which becomes more collaborative and inclusive. We seek to provide equal opportunities in the search for leadership positions within our business sectors,” says executive director Carla Haag. Carla started her career in the administrative and financial sector. Currently, she takes on the position of director and coordinates the units in Rio Grande do Sul. This allows the follow-up of issues related to products, technologies, materials, and customer service.

“I’ve had few female references around and today I have the opportunity to lead some of my co-workers. Having leadership examples for these women, providing an opportunity for networking, and a career plan are important aspects. We know that the growth in the number of women makes the occupation of these positions legitimate.”

PICCADILLY participates in project aimed at re-socialization Reflections PICCADILLY

PICCADILLY has created in partnership with Susepe (Superintendence of Penitentiary Services), 3 sewing inside the State Penitentiary of Arroio dos Ratos, located in Rio Grande do Sul. The initiative will bring income to 60 benefited inmates and their families, enabling opportunities. In addition to learning a new job, they may have new chances in the job market after serving their sentence.

Employees from Igrejinha, Teutônia and Rolante participated in the event PICCADILLY Reflections during the first semester. The theme of the chats was the impostor syndrome.
