The Annual Conference is your stage. Fine-tune your expertise, connect with industry pros, and gain the know-how to keep in harmony with the latest trends in insurance.
Welcome back to Foxwoods for the 2025 Connecticut Convention.
I’m so glad that you—agents, company representatives, sponsors, exhibitors and advertisers— are here to participate in the convention. You are what makes this event successful.
When you think of a PIA event, you think of education, networking and establishing connections—these are the pillars that we build on each year.
Knowledge
New exposures affect the insurance industry. On Thursday, Bradford J. Lachut, Esq., will teach two classes to address growing trends: Emerging Risks: Autonomous Vehicles, Short-Term Rentals, Rideshares & Drones in the morning continuing-education session, and The Intersection of AI and Insurance, in the afternoon CE session.
For those of you who are looking to complete their Laws, Regulations and Ethics CE requirements, attend Errors & Omissions: An Agent’s Ethical and Legal Obligations^UN^AZ , which will be taught by Christopher Weldon, Esq., on Friday morning.
Be social
Thank you to the Connecticut Young Insurance Professionals for hosting the Welcome Reception Wednesday night at High Rollers Luxury Lanes. We hope everyone who attended reveled in bowling and catching up with other insurance professionals.
Enjoy nonstop networking—you don’t even need to pause to eat. See you at the Networking Lunch Buffet, during which PIA National President Ariel Rivera, MBA, CIC, CPIA, will discuss changes to the insurance industry through the years.
There are plenty of other opportunities to network, including during the trade show, which will be open throughout the convention, and at the Networking Reception on Thursday night. Delight in the musical stylings of DJ Michael Nigretti.
These are some of the highlights for Connecticut Convention. More details about the event can be found in this program book. Thank you for being a part of this year’s success. Enjoy!

PIA’s NumberONE Comp market is now entertaining artisan classes, such as:
In the insurance industry, the named insured has been the foundation of how risk is assigned and/or transferred. However, the proliferation of drones, transportation network companies, autonomous vehicles and short-term rentals raises new coverage questions, such as: Who is at risk when there isn’t a specific someone behind the controls (in the case of an accident)? This course will outline how insurance professionals can assist their clients in understanding the risks associated with technological and sociological advancements—such as driverless cars, unmanned aerial vehicles and online enabled ride-sharing—regarding their personal and commercial insurance needs.

Generative artificial intelligence continues to impact all areas of our lives. It’s in the devices we carry with us; the items in our homes; the vehicles that we use to commute back and forth to work; and the tools that we use to run our businesses—including insurance-related businesses. Whether it’s how the carrier partners are determining products, pricing and underwriting guidelines, or how independent agents are assessing the individual risks of their clients, the insurance industry has areas of opportunity, as well as possible errorsand-omissions pitfalls, which partnering with automation can bring. This course will examine the intersection of this new landscape, and the tools agents can use to minimize the possibilities for E&O exposures when they interact with clients.

Insurance producers have ethical and legal obligations under Connecticut state laws and regulations. This course will use examples of actual lawsuits and regulatory matters to highlight those obligations and to offer insights to insurance producers about specific matters, including: examining rebating issues; following required surplus-lines procedures; canceling company appointments for cause; utilizing an unauthorized name to conduct business; using misleading or deceptive advertising practices; and charging improper fees. The course will examine common types of errors-and-omissions claims and lawsuits; and how the use of proper documentation can protect an agency against these claims. Cyber and data breaches and core coverages and limits also will be discussed.
