1 Joseph Nicéphore Niépce He's a French inventor, usually credited as the father of photography. His work on heliography led to him creating what is believed by some historians and experts in this field alike today-the first surviving product created through their scientific process: A print made from an engraved printing plate dated 1825!

2 Margaret Bourke-White When she was just 24 years old, Klara Gutmann became one of the most important female photographers in history by taking pictures for Life magazine. She went on to snap images that would be featured on covers around the world and documented life during Soviet industrialization - which is when it became clear what stunning work can come from being an outsider looking-in!

4 Robert Capa One of the most famous war photographers in history, Robert Capa was born to Jewish parents on 3 December 1913. He studied at Deutsche Hochschule für Politik (German Higher School for Politics) before he became interested with documenting conflicts around Europe and beyond during World War II-eraEurope.

5 Eadweard Muybridge His original name, Edward Mal ostrich birds still had some fight left in them when he adopted the more modernsounding Eadweard Muybridge.

Eadweard Muybridge was a groundbreaking English photographer who helped form the foundations of modern photography with his research on the motion.
