This year Hug Rug turns eighteen! To celebrate this milestone and acknowledge the heritage and experience we’ve developed in those years, we decided it was time for an update that reflected this. Our new look simply gives us the chance to tell our story more clearly, to celebrate the journey we’ve been on as the original washable rug, and to share the values that have shaped Hug Rug’s past and will continue to shape our future.
As we turn 18, we want to say a heartfelt thank you. Thank you to every apprentice who’s learning their craft, every long-standing team member who’s shared their skills, and especially to every customer who has made all of this possible.

Behind the Hugs

Made in the UK
Our parent company has been rooted in Yorkshire for over 70 years, and Hug Rug continues that legacy proudly. Today, we employ around 150 people locally, from young apprentices starting their first job in textiles to seasoned makers who have spent decades honing their craft.

Turning 18 is a milestone worth celebrating, and for Hug Rug, it means so much more than just coming of age. In those 18 years, we’ve gone from launching our very first Hug Rug washable rug to producing over 100,000 rugs, mats, runners and more every single year, with our eco-conscious product reaching customers in more than 20 countries across the world. That doesn’t happen without people. And while we may have a new look, what hasn’t changed are the skilled hands and passionate minds behind every Hug Rug.
For all that looks new, so much remains the same. Our high-quality products are still made with the same care as they’ve always been, using recycled and natural materials wherever possible. Alongside this, our focus on customer service - a friendly human voice at the end of the phone - is still a key element of our offering.

Our Journey
Father and son duo, Jack and David Mosley, formed Phoenox Textiles all the way back in 1954.
1970 saw the creation of the first-ever machine-washable rug.
Hug Rug was formed in 2007 with aim of creating natural and sustainably-focused products for your home.
The Hug Rug range and team expanded, with over 150 people working at our Huddersfield factory, all making washable rugs for thoughtful living.
