SENIOR CAPSTONE PROJECTS
This year, seven seniors successfully completed the Honors Capstone Project. Seniors who plan to graduate with honors choose a topic in their Concentration (Fine Arts, Humanities, Spiritual & Leadership Formation, STEM) and plan an extensive project. These scholars overcame many obstacles, persevered through the extra stress of a research paper, and courageously presented to a panel of faculty and staff. The projects covered a range of diverse and creative topics including writing a children’s book, hosting a night of worship, creating a documentary about some heroes working with inner city youth, and researching the role the Bible played in the lives of our founding fathers.
NATALY OLGUIN
(Humanities concentration) has had a passion for young women and the distorted body image of so many. She sought to plan an event that would inspire high school girls to see themselves through the eyes of their Creator. She held a “female-only” chapel titled “I’m Lovin’ Me.” She asked the girls to go to different stations where they wrote about what they saw in the mirrors. She had a guest speaker, Valeria Estrada, who spoke life into the girls and challenged them to fight against the enemy 12
who wants to destroy their identity in Christ. She closed by saying, “only you can live your unique life…the life God called you to live.” Nataly’s favorite verse is, “God is using his great power to keep you safe, because you trust Him. He will continue to keep you safe until the last day, when Christ will return. Then you will know that God has saved you completely from sin and from death” (1 Peter 1:5). Nataly plans to attend Grand Canyon University as a first-generation college student, majoring in psychology.
