Sinfonia’s Accomplishments Dear Brothers: It is a tremendous pleasure to have this opportunity to “speak” with you in this issue of The Red & Black. I want to wish you the very best for a safe and happy holiday. I wish you safe travels and a happy New Year! This is an exciting time for our great Order, and I want to share with you some of our collective accomplishments.
Growth and Expansion As you are reading this, you should take pride in knowing that there are 206 active collegiate chapters of Sinfonia from coast-to-coast. Our Fraternity is now larger than it has been in several decades, and we all should take a bow for this achievement. It takes a great deal of work, organization, spirit and support for a colony to become a chapter, and it is clear that the light of Sinfonia is shining brightly on our colonies and new chapters. THE NEW CHAPTERS STILL NEED YOUR SUPPORT! The first couple years of a new chapter can be the most difficult. If there is a new chapter in your province, please offer your support as they grow and develop! Additionally, please contact Ryan Ripperton at the National Headquarters if you know of a school in your area that could support a chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
The Ossian E. Mills Music Mission It is only fitting that the project designed to carry on the “Flower Missions” of Father Mills has swept the nation as a vital aspect of our Order! The MMM is possibly the best and most accurate means
for Sinfonians to express, in a tangible way, the mission of Sinfonia - the uplift of mankind. Whether your chapter is regularly scheduling Missions or you are planning one for the first time, it is very important that your chapter sends a report of your Mission to the National Headquarters. We have dedicated space in our publications to report your Missions, and we want to fill those pages with your good news!
The Initiation Ritual The Fraternity leadership has dedicated a great deal of energy and time on ritual education over the course of the past several years. The increase in our collective level of understanding and knowledge of the Initiation Ritual is paying great dividends. As I travel the country, I am so pleased to see that the attention being paid to detail is significant, and our newly initiated brothers are reaping the benefit of excellently prepared rituals. However, we cannot relax and consider this a completed project. We must keep in mind that a chapter’s collective understanding of the Initiation Ritual and fraternal education in general is only as strong as the chapter’s efforts to educate the newest members on a regular basis. This is a NEVER-ENDING effort, and we must remain committed to ongoing ritual and fraternal education. It has been a great fall. I wish you and your families the very best, and I look for-
ward to reporting continued growth and success in the coming year. Until then, I remain… Fraternally yours, In ΦMA,
James P. Morris Executive Director
Happy Holidays! The National Staff and National Executive Committee wish you and yours a happy and safe holiday season! So let it be for Sinfonia!
