hillips Academy field hockey, also known as PAFH, is a unique and special team, and I have been fortunate enough to be a part of it for the past three very successful seasons. PAFH is an exceptional paradigm of success and passion, embodying determination, unity, and camaraderie. Our team motto is “Don’t Settle,” and, as a senior and the captain, I am confident that with that mentality we will succeed. We have made it to the playoffs the past three years and definitely hope to keep that tradition alive. So far this sea-

son we have a win, three losses and a tie. I believe it is not how we begin as a team that defines us, but rather how we adapt to challenges, improve together and finish the season. Unlike the last few years, we have mainly a young team, but with that youth comes new perspective and potential, and luckily for us, some extraordinary talent. The Andover–Exeter competitions in the fall are by far the most zealous and anticipated. In 2009 we won 3–0, in 2010 we won 2–1 in overtime, and in 2011 we suffered a bitter 1–1 tie in overtime. This year we definitely are not willing to “settle” and hope that through hard work and a positive attitude we will emerge victorious. Each player on PAFH has an equally significant role in our success as a team, and the only way for a team to thrive is if each individual is committed to move toward a common goal. We approach the rest of our season and the game against Exeter with high hopes and the will to win. Go Big Blue! —Cara Daly ’13
