The Newsletter - March Edition 2014 - 2015 From the Principal Dear members of our school community, The month of February has come to an end. Everybody can feel it: Winter is almost over and the days become longer. Of course we are already preparing for the new school year. At the moment we carry out interviews with possible new teachers. Beginning next school year, we will have no combined classes in Primary School anymore and a maximum of 16 students per class. Having one class more and because of Middle School we have to employ two new teachers. The vacant position for German and Art has already been decided. The school development toward Middle School takes up speed. We had invited three architects to submit proposals for our Middle School. It is a very motivating and challenging moment to see these creative proposals and to imagine how one of them will become reality and will contribute to a stimulating and healthy environment. Now we have to prepare a decision through the Board. The month of February had the start of new and challenging extracurricular activities. All students out of Grade 3-6 went on a winter trip. It gave our Early Years students the opportunity to go swimming. And right before spring break we finished an exciting Project Week. Now students and teachers deserve a break. I wish the school community a nice and and relaxing time.

With best wishes Gerhard Lebherz, Principal

February Assembly

February Assembly was hosted by the Pre School students. They performed a very nice traditional Japanese Dance called Awa Odori. The students were quite excited but showed a interesting performance on the playground. After that teachers were giving out their awards.

Carnival

There were lots of wonderful costumes, fun, laughter and games today as we had our school carnival. We started the morning with a whole school carnival dance. After that we all went to the classrooms and had a carousel of fun games throughout the school. The games included candy throwing, dressing-up, guessing games, balloon popping, pass-theparcel and freeze dance. We ended the fun games with a conga dance making one long line moving up and around the school. All the kids concluded the Carnival fun with a German jam donut called Berliner. Thanks to PTA for organising the donuts for the whole school!

Early Years What better way to start our third unit of the year "How we Express Ourselves" than with some fun dress-up and imaginative playtime during Open Kindergarten time this past month.

Grade 5 & 6

This unit we were making our class miniature about Prehistoric humans in the Ice Age. We were trying to make a miniature that is realistic to the real ice age that happened long time ago. It was hard for some people to cut the cardboard because it was tough and also when cutting some people were hurting themselves. It was fun to make the miniature because we could research and see the images of the Ice Age to make it look realistic in the miniature. It was important to make the miniature because our unit 3 was about prehistoric humans and living things at this time. It was fascinating because we can see what were the prehistoric humans were doing in the ice age, and we get the chance to make the realistic miniature.
