Improv Dance 3 Triptych of Light Box Images 2011 Abstract Photographs of Oil Painting
I
am fascinated by the idea of Painting with Light. Light is central to all color and even to the quest of people of all cultures to find a sense of enlightenment. These works explore the nature of colors of the light spectrum and how the lines and forms move to create energy and referentially reality. The idea of Painting with Light began for me with my oil paintings where whites and yellows blaze energy trails across my works. I began using photography to explore Painting with Light by photographing my paintings with slow shutter speeds in a sort of shaman dance with the images where I use the camera to unleash a deeper truth from these works. To my delight I discovered that photographing my paintings revealed light and energy in ways I hoped to convey in my paintings but could not. The photographs find the energy and power of the paintings and reveal the paintings in surprising, fascinating, transformative and revealing ways - these images are the basis of my Painting with Light art works.
The Painting with Light images are used as the basis of translucent image corridors, light box installations or projection environments creating light experiences for the viewer. Artist Statement
