Communal Solitude: 18 Weeks
Conceptually a sustainable integration of a music hall that can act as a destination for users of the pennstate campus at the end a a pathway that moves students from downtown all the way through campus. The Path way acts as a Lifted Promenade that integrates students and users back in the arboretum master Plan. Conceptually, the lifted ramp gives walkable access from a seperated parking block for students. Experientially, bringing users up into the liviness of sound before moving them down into the accoustically isolated Timber Plated Prefab System. The systems unique corrugated design helps to accoustically diffuse sound equally throughout the space.
Light is filtered by the truss elements and gaps in the facade to reflect the feeling of light filtration from the twigs of a tree while being located in the center of the meadow. On the idea of materiality affecting atmosphere, the reflectivity of the exterior aluminum panels is contrasted by the interior painted walls ornamented with the truss shadows. The mundane interior contrasted by the reflective exterior almost becomes a metaphor for the artist process of designing with unexciting (intricate in their own way like the truss shadows) electronic parts to create an attractive flying drone. As was previously mentioned, light is designed to enter the interior through the rising and swelling of the roof condition. These openings are arranged to allow the maximum sunlight into the building and therefore maximize the wall shadow condition during the daylight hours. Similarly, the openings allow light to enter the spaces that will be occupied the most by the artists. Also, following his path through his day. Beginning his day in the bedroom with sunlight entering onto the wall above his bed and following him along the wall to his drafting table and thusly around the entire plan. All combining to create the singular phenomenological atmosphere of the metal habitat building.

Good Living: 5 Weeks
Good living for a client confined to a wheelchair is living that tries to accommodate every individual need of the client while maintaining architectural interest. For this client the primary ideas that defined the Form of the building is a Gentle ease of movement in the space, as well as private confined spaces that provide a feeling of safety and security. Similarly, any piece of good living addresses light and the phenomenological experience within the structure. Light is thought about as an architectural element that can
Encourage movement through the space. Likewise, the roof slopes in one direction through the building to add to the effect of inviting in movement. There is a procession that ends with a reveal of light that offers the framed view that invites the client and guests into the living spaces. The same windows offers views of the site from the client’s bed and kitchen. The client is free to imagine their own idea good living in how they use the space. In other words, the structure is catered towards this client’s exact needs that it should almost go unnoticed.
