Kids Q focuses on beef at fair

MARYVILLE, Mo. — The fair this year will see a favorite for kids with a culinary inclination: the Kids Q Contest.

The event is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 14 at Market and Fourth streets.

Grilling will start at 6:30. Group 1 will turn in their food at 7 p.m. and Group 2 will turn in their food at 7:30 p.m.

Interested kids can register at the 5 p.m. check-in, or can pre-register beforehand at the fair office.

This year there will be two groups for kids 5- to 12-yearsold with all meat provided by the event’s main sponsor, the Nodaway County Cattlemen’s Association.

Items provided for the contest include: cooking grills, buns, ketchup and cheese.

Kids should be supervised by an adult at all times, but the kids should be the ones doing the prepping, seasoning, cooking and presenting.

Adults may provide some assistance, but at no time should an adult independently prep, cook, sauce or present the meat.

Hamburgers will be cooked to well done for safety. They will be judged based on three categories: taste, appearance and doneness. Phones and tablets aren’t permitted except as a camera, timer or used to make a phone

Little Mr. and Miss Nodaway County contest to take place on the main stage

MARYVILLE, Mo. — The annual tradition of crowning a little boy and girl to ride in the Nodaway County Fair Parade as royalty returns to the Nodaway County Fair.

The Little Mr. and Little Miss Nodaway County contest is open to children ages 3 to 5. Last year Emma Osborn and Truett Thompson rode in a new Jeep during the parade. Registration for this year’s competition will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at the Nodaway County Administration Center. A $5 entry fee is required. Preregistration forms may be found on the fair website at www.nodcofair.org call.

The competition is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday on the main stage at Third and Market streets.

Register any time before the contest at the Fair Office in the Nodaway County Administra tion Center.
