A DISAPPEARANCE BETWEEN NATURE AND ARTIFICIALITY
PREFACE
The idea of having an architectural design studio had been simmering within me for years. The way I imagine architecture design studios is to create a haven for budding architects to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to the field. I embarked on this journey with a clear vision: to build a studio that not only produced exceptional designs but also served as a nurturing ground for junior architectural students.
The studio is not just a workplace; it is more like a collaborative ecosystem. We encourage open communication, exchange ideas freely, and foster an environment where everyone feels welcome, heard, and valued. The diverse perspectives and experiences each attendee brings will undoubtedly contribute to a vibrant learning environment. We invite senior architects to act as mentors by offering guidance, sharing experiences, and providing constructive feedback.
“Autumn Intensive Workshop (AIW)” was launched in the autumn of 2023 as one of the design studies of PHASE. This year, the workshop was held online with the second-year students from TTU, Myanmar. This program is designed to offer participants an immersive experience delving into the depths of architectural principles and a deeper understanding of architectural concepts, encouraging participants to engage in creative discourse and hands-on activities. This workshop comes with an exciting series where each session unfolds a new theme of design thinking and creativity, and physical models become the language through which we express our architectural visions. Participants are asked to bring the ideas to life by sketching and to make physical models by exploring the boundless possibilities of architecture using materials readily available at home to understand the gap between theory and practice.
This workshop is a two-month architectural journey from mid-October to mid-December that blends collaborative exploration and individual creativity. The workshop will begin with immersive group work, which includes brainstorming sessions and collaborative exercises to find the main idea. As we transition into the second phase, the focus shifts to individual expression. With the insights gained from group dynamics, participants will embark on a personal design narrative and will have the freedom to shape architectural vision.
I would like to take a moment to express my deepest appreciation for the participation and outstanding work despite the politics, civil war, and power shortage. As we embark on this journey together, I find myself inspired by the diversity of perspectives and talents that each of you brings to the table and truly excited to be part of this collective exploration of architecture with you. Looking ahead, the studio’s mission remains unchanged: to be a nurturing ground that not only creates exceptional designs but also empowers the next generation of young architects. I would like to invite all the young generation to be an integral part of our upcoming workshop, where you will have opportunities to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of design and deepen your understanding of architecture and spaces.
