BALENCIAGA Donating part of proceeds to fund a research program at Institut Curie.

Balenciaga has just launched a new capsule collection from which 10% of the proceeds will be donated to charity.

Dubbed the “Pink Ribbon Capsule,” the products include tees, long-sleeves and hoodies with the slogan “WE ARE PINK” accompanied by the universally recognized symbol for breast cancer awareness, the looped pink ribbon.

10% of the proceeds from the products will help fund a research program at Institut Curie aiming to demonstrate the utilit of an early breast cancer relapse detection method, which measures circulating tumor DNA from a simple blood draw.

Baenciaga’s Pink Ribbon capsule will be available in stores starting October 1. Take a look at the pieces in the gallery above.

HighlightsTHE REBIRTH of As New York Fashion Week takes place phygitally this season, PH5 has unveiled its Spring/Summer 2021 collection virtually. Titled “Rebirth,” the range highlights a new beginning for Australia following the 2019 bushfires, while simultaneously reminding us of the ongoing wildfires in California, Oregon and Washington.

Marking the label’s new designer Zoe Champion‘s debut collection, the entire conceptualization and development process of “Rebirth” took place remotely in the creative’s home in Sydney. “With everything happening in the world, this season for fashion week, we looked to share our platform with a group of indigenous Australian women working with Firesticks Alliance,” the official press release reads, explaining that the latest collection aims to support the organization that helps protect, conserve and enhance the cultural and natural values of the country. Lensed on the Awabakal land, the campaign pays respect to the Aboriginal group, while raising awareness to combat climate change.

The SS21 range features a vibrant color palette with repetitive fire prints splashed onto dresses and matching sets of cropped tops and trousers.

PH5’s signature ribbed material is seen on pastel-colored tank tops, skirts and tees, along with daily accessories like a bucket hat with a wavy brim.

BEST COLLECTION OF FALL 2020

Fashion is indeed a “perfect mirror” of the current cultural moment

Banality is anathema to every single designer on this list, and this season they fought it in a number of engaging ways.

Gucci’s Alessandro Michele staged his own happening in Milan; his elaborate fashion carousel was a tribute to the act of creation—and to the many hands required to get the task done. Tom Ford, meanwhile, hooked up with the Hollywood crowd on the eve of the Oscars. The man gives good front row.

Jonathan Anderson of JW Anderson and Balenciaga’s Demna Gvasalia continued to engage us with their boundary-pushing silhouettes, while our premier women designers—Miuccia Prada, Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, Rodarte’s Mulleavy sisters, and Silvia Venturini Fendi—got down to the business of redefining the notion of femininity for the 2020s. Burton and Venturini Fendi in particular made the important point that women of all ages and shapes are sexy. Why does that still feel like a revelatory concept for some of their male peers?

It’s a lot to ask of a designer: to not only make clothes that say something about our time—Ghesquière called fashion a “perfect mirror” for the current cultural moment—but also to connect with us on an emotional level. But in this era of excess, with Mother Nature signaling in any number of ways (killer viruses, killer tornadoes, etc.) that she’s reached her tipping point, maybe it’s necessary. As Extinction Rebellion and card-carrying members of our industry begin to question the environmental impact of fashion month, one thing none of us need is another banal show.

Inserting viewers in the action would seem a distinctly 21st-century phenomenon, but Alessandro Michele found himself connecting it with childhood. Last season he paid tribute to Gucci’s Tom Ford days; there were slip dresses, exposed bras, and ’70s-by-way-of-the-’90s pantsuits— the clothes that made Michele fall in love with fashion.

The Friday of Oscars weekend is no time for Tom Ford to be in New York—not when Jennifer Lopez, Renée Zellweger, and Miley Cyrus, along with Jason Momoa, Jon Hamm, and Jeff Bezos, are descending on Los Angeles in the party-filled lead-up to the big awards ceremony. The proximity of so much fame suggested that he might have had a red-carpet collection in store for us.

As ever, Miuccia Prada can be depended on to connect with our cultural moment and to synthesize where women are at.

But as obvious as all this sounds, outside the Pradasphere and our industry more generally, her theory of femininity is more problematic. Consider the remaining female Democratic candidates for the U.S. presidency, who have abdicated all interest in fashion. Prada, for her part, sees glamour as ‘something that makes you optimistic, that lifts you up.

BALENCIAGA Black—its resurgence, the cutting of new silhouettes, its links to minimalism and classicism—is playing throughout fashion this season. To each their own, though. Demna Gvasalia’s route is always freighted with social observation on the state of the world, power politics, dress codes, fetishism.

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN The Alexander McQueen warrior women marched relentlessly on, in sharply tailored frock coats and slim-leg pantsuits gripped by belts jangling with jewels that included tiny silver hip flasks and metalbound notebooks; dresses that resembled leather blankets draped like tartan shawls over fitted cuirass bodices; and a finale of fairy-tale ‘bird’s nest’ evening dresses of frothing net and embroidery suggestive of medieval folk tales: powerful romance.

(On watching the changes in Korean fashion and society) For the first time ever, Seoul has started formally referring to its former “Seoul Collection Fashion Show” by the more confident-sounding title of “Seoul Fashion Week”, along the lines of other respected cit ies holding shows around the world.

The act of doing so not only indicates a real and palpable increase in international interest in Korean fashion, but also signals a crucial shift towards a self-conscious intention to actively gain more attention in a purposeful and more organized way. The last time such a convergence between international reccognition and institutional selfawareness happened, it ended up being called a “wave.”

As the overall fashion-consciousness of the Korean people meets international trends, Korea is becoming a fashion hotspot to watch. For this reason, the look of the Korean street is distinctively pret-a-porte, or “ready-to-wear.” Indeed, Korea’s

When all this convergence happens, it will surely be called a “Korean fashion wave,” as people from all over the world start taking real notice of what people are and aren’t wearing in Seoul and perhaps even other cities. All these changes have been taking place on the Korean streets over the last few years, occurring in a tell tale pattern.

The fabulousness of Korean fashion - in terms of how the Korean public is interpreting, transmitting, and actually defining it with their own bodies – cannot be created or controlled by central government planning, the desires of fashion industry clites, or even the dictates of commercialism.

Those factors can help quicken any “fashion wave” into reality, but everything still begins and ends with what everyday Koreans are wearing on the street.

Think this Pat McGrath Loewe campaign meets a melting paleta meets the three beads of condensation falling off a Red Delicious — juicy, glossy, and irresistible. We asked makeup artist Ingeborg to demonstrate the look, and she did so eight ways. Grab a bowl of berries and follow along.

On Mads, Ingeborg used the Color and Light palette from Kosas in 8th Muse, a rosy pink blush paired with a champagne cream highlighter, to make Mads look like she spent the day in the sun. To get a ‘just ate a popsicle’ stain effect on Mads’ lips, Ingeborg blended (and blended and blended) Chanel lip liner in Vamp in the center of her mouth, and topped it with the Rouge Allure Liquid Powder in 964. It looks dark at first swipe, but blotted out it turns into a bright raspberry.

If Mads’ last look was pure peach, this subtler version is all apricot—less of a commitment, and slightly more monochromatic. Ingeborg used the Dior 5 Couleurs palette in Wild Earth for a warm wash all the way up to her brow bone. It pairs well with the two Laura Mercier products Ingeborg used on Mads’ lips: slightly blotted Bellini gloss over Infatuation lipstick. On her cheeks is Laura Mercier Blush Infusion in Grapefruit, with Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Balm for a natural, dewy highlight.

For the final look, Ingeborg used one Chanel Essentielle palette for eyes, lips, and cheeks on both models. Mads wears 180, featuring a bright, rosy pink, and Nidhi wears 185, which includes a vibrant orange-red. Warm, bright, and lit-from-within—like a summer sunset from cheek to cheek. Mads wears a JoosTricot polo dress with Staud gingham mules. She also wears a leather bucket hat from Clyde and COA purse.

This is the look to try if peach is your color. On Mads, Ingeborg layered Citron and Fun eyeshadows from Face Stockholm, followed by a bright orange line in Camilla on just the top, outer corners of the eye. To make it juicier, she swiped Flesh Disco Nap eye gloss on top. On Mads’ cheeks, Ingeborg layered lilah b. Lip & Cheek Duos in b. daring and b. cheeky. She finished the look with Clarins Eau a Levres in Orange Water with Chanel lip gloss in 802 on top to approximate what you wish biting into a peach would leave your lips like.
